Background and History
Corporate Warfare
Militech is Arasaka’s longstanding military and commercial rival. During the Fourth Corporate War, competing contracts drove both corporations to develop new weapons. Militech’s arsenal includes individual cyberware, mercenary forces, and fighters, bombers, and transport aircraft capable of transoceanic operations 1018.
In 2023, Rogue participated in Militech’s Decapitation Plan against Arasaka. The account generally accepted within Night City attributes the Arasaka Tower nuclear explosion to Militech and identifies Rogue’s squad as a diversionary force 129 130.
Unification War and Dogtown
Militech launched the Unification War in 2069. Within a year, its “Metal Tide” had broken through the Free States Federation’s defenses and reached Night City 522.
In 2070, an elite Militech unit occupied a strategic location in Pacific State and waited for attack orders that never arrived. New America instead signed a peace treaty with the Northern California Free State. Hansen subsequently consolidated control over the abandoned territory, turning Dogtown into an international black market. Publicly, Hansen and his Hellhound unit remained part of Militech’s combat forces 157.
President Rosalind Myers, formerly Militech’s CEO, supported peace because further fighting threatened New America’s economy and risked reversing its territorial gains. Militech favored continuing the war because the conflict had increased its revenue and market value 587.
Organization and Personnel
- Lucas Harford — CEO of Militech. Although he has disagreements with New America, he owes his position to Myers 652.
- Rosalind Myers — Former CEO and current president of New America. She retains substantial influence over Militech without treating its interests as identical to those of the state 587 652.
- Meredith Stout — Corporate representative and operational commander. She directs the Stone Ridge deployment, later assists Lier’s border escape, and represents Militech in municipal security discussions 171 183 385.
- Colonel Lance Hardy — Deploys troops to seal the City Center subway and eliminate targets connected to the Biotechnica scandal 104.
- “Executioner” — Special operations commander stationed at Militech Tower during Extreme Metal. Orders the defense system to fire if the approaching gangs cross Corporate Plaza’s security line 503.
- Director #0034 — Orders Captain #5620 to monitor the Badlands after officer #8030 disappears 148.
- Nott — Heavily augmented pursuer whose Sandevistan and Mantis Blades allow him to dismantle V and Lier’s vehicle during the Atlanta escape 13.
- Mitch — Former Militech serviceman whose armored transport trooper prosthetic retains vehicle-control and repair functions 161.
Command and Corporate Interests
- Separate chains of command: Stout cannot freely redeploy the border patrol troops, which fall outside her effective authority 173.
- Employee interests can conflict with policy: Some Militech personnel profit from supplying Dogtown even when the corporation benefits from sacrificing the Hellhounds 616.
- Veteran recruitment: For high-risk decapitation operations, Militech favors hiring experienced street veterans with a sense of contractual obligation and equipping them with powerful military weapons 673.
- School programs: Militech operates a school attended by Matt, who reports receiving paid training through a program his father enrolled him in 595.
Military Capabilities
Mechanized and Automated Warfare
Militech’s principal battlefield strength lies in automated machines supported by augmented personnel 284.
- Deploys mechanized infantry, drones, armored transports, tanks, and AVs 103 171 684.
- Uses thermal imaging, radar, and networked communications during encirclement operations 171.
- Maintains a highly automated Border Force; its stated border-patrol practice is to shoot unauthorized approaches 183.
- Advances armored formations with infantry operating under tank cover, making its forces difficult for gangs and Nomads to stop through harassment alone 684.
Soldier Augmentation
Standard-issue Militech cyberware emphasizes low cost and practical combat performance rather than comfort or biological compatibility 148.
- Heavy-gunner packages include military stimulants, hydraulic transmission systems, subdermal armor, tactical Cyber-Eyes, and recoil dampeners 148.
- Lier places the listed equipment cost for this type of soldier at 40,000–90,000 eddies, rising to as much as 180,000 eddies with training. He considers the latter figure inflated to increase contract prices 148.
- Extensive replacement of muscles and joints creates compatibility problems, leaving Militech employees particularly vulnerable to cyberpsychosis 148.
- Individual soldiers remain dependent on support: officer #8030 is overcome through hacking, accumulated wounds, a heavy vehicle impact, and sniper fire 148.
Networks and Electronic Warfare
Militech is skilled in network technology but favors powerful hardware and defensive infrastructure over subtle cyberspace espionage 543.
- Its post–Old Net approach relies on high-powered, wide-coverage equipment; hacking and decryption are comparatively mediocre 543.
- Military ICE can counterattack intruders. During the convoy battle, a hostile network response kills a Maelstrom hacker, while another defense attempts to construct a Demon against Lier 284 286.
- EMP protection includes backup circuits that allow damaged military equipment to reboot, though performance can be reduced 124 284.
- Centralized connectivity is also a vulnerability: Songbird’s counterattack causes nearly every Militech combat machine in Night City to attack its own side 691.
Equipment and Technology
Vehicles and Combat Machines
- Behemoth Armored Vehicle — Restricted to corporate and government buyers. Despite vehicle manufacturing not being Militech’s primary specialty, the Behemoth repeatedly ranks among the most trusted armored vehicles and holds a majority share of the high-end market 31.
- Manticore AV — Combat aircraft with a large-caliber autocannon and support for anti-armor weapons. Protected backup circuitry allows it to survive an EMP and restart with reduced capabilities 124 656.
- Basilisk — Heavy armored combat unit deployed at the border and during the advance against Night City’s defenders 35 684.
- Centaur Exoskeleton — War-era equipment based on a γ-class ∑ Linear Frame. The police-market version uses series-connected battery packs, a composite shield, and a Semi-Ion Electromagnetic Cannon capable of melting through 150 millimeters of homogeneous armor 285 499 500.
- Chimera Tank — Urban and complex-terrain combat prototype developed from 2065. Only 13 were built; none entered mass production. A displayed example beneath the former Night City exhibition hall had its firmware remotely erased when Militech withdrew 686.
- Flathead MTOD12 — Military robot equipped with dynamic optical camouflage, a CR-8 immersive operating system, prototype titanium-alloy fiber actuators, and an integrated link system 281.
Cyberware and Experimental Systems
- “Chapter” Mk. 6 Prototype Core — Unfinished, 2.622-kilogram device designed to house an AI rather than serve as a human implant. Lier implants it during the Atlanta escape; the later corporate investigation connects the lost prototype to illegal AI research 15 16 653.
- Armored Transport Trooper Arm — Combines increased strength, one-handed driving support, a vehicle interface, and automated repair diagnostics. Compatible with Militech’s combat roster. Cyberware with these functions was banned after the Unification War 161.
- NCPD Type 5 Subdermal Armor — Ceramic, fiber, and alloy composite issued to elite machine gunners during the Unification War. Requires an exceptionally large natural physique; installation in heavily modified users risks cyberpsychosis 214.
- Charged Particle Laser Firmware — Experimental upgrade that converts a charged-particle cannon array to sustained high-energy streams. Requires enormous quantities of electricity and particle ammunition 176.
- Military spinal cyberware and internal Sandevistan models — Supplied to Zaliya during her extensive reconstruction. The associated firmware forcibly formats the sisters connected to her through a neural bridge 298.
- Joint ZetaTech Cyberware Kit — Advertised for a fourth-quarter release, with individual components combining into a complete full-body system 491.
Weapons
- Ajax rifles, Achilles precision rifles, and heavy machine guns — Used by the subway blockade force 103.
- Recoilless M5 Rocket Launchers — Anti-armor weapons carried during the Stone Ridge operation, dangerous even to a Basilisk when striking its side 171.
- Tie Chui-30 Autocannon — Militech weapon whose performance on the Mackinaw generates a surge of sales inquiries 486 491.
Relationships
- New America — Military partner with overlapping personnel and nationalized units. Corporate profit and national policy nevertheless diverge over continued warfare and Dogtown 587 652 653.
- Arasaka — Principal rival. Their competition shapes Night City’s security policy, although they temporarily cooperate in the hunt for Burger King 385 653.
- Biotechnica — Research and commercial partner. Militech is the client in Project Nightingale, not an inseparable partner in Joanne Koch’s misconduct; exposure would allow it to blame Biotechnica and cut ties 85 105.
- NCPD — Security customer and recipient of Militech equipment, including Centaur Exoskeletons 499 652.
- Jefferson Peralez — Political beneficiary of Militech support. Lier interprets increased NCPD purchasing as the bargain securing Militech’s acceptance of Peralez’s tiered corporate taxes 279 585.
- Sixth Street — Arms customer and distribution partner. Sergeant says Militech approached only after the gang established itself, rejecting the idea that it financed Sixth Street from the beginning 354 359.
- Wraiths — Proxy force supplied with weapons, drones, Centaur Exoskeletons, explosives, and experimental technology 173 176.
- Hansen and the Hellhounds — Nominal Militech troops whose continued presence in Dogtown becomes a source of conflict among the corporation, New America, and individual suppliers 157 616.
- Lier / Burger King — Repeated adversary, intelligence source, and occasional transactional partner. Stout trades military supplies for information and offers long-term support, but Militech later joins the multinational pursuit of him 251 653.
- Songbird — Investigator of the Atlanta incident who later turns against Militech’s Night City networks after Lier frees her from the rogue AI entangled with her consciousness 16 683 691.
Major Operations
Atlanta Incident
- Militech pursues V, Lier, and Zhu Shen with drones, vehicles, and Nott. Lier’s implantation of the prototype core enables an electronic counterattack that brings down drones and disrupts pursuing vehicles 13 15.
- Songbird receives the field investigation and suspects activity from an AI beyond the Blackwall 16.
- The public report identifies deceased Kang Tao specialists Zhu Shen and Cai Pin as the attackers. Kang Tao denies corporate involvement, diverting attention from Lier and V 30.
- Later disclosures establish that the destroyed Militech unit belonged to New America’s garrison and that both the prototype loss and Blackwall remnants had been concealed 653.
Project Nightingale and Corporate Plaza
- Militech seals the City Center subway to locate Mendoza, Morton, Murphy, and Barnes. Lier’s allies ambush and destroy the deployed squad, then use stolen Behemoths to split the pursuit 103 104.
- The failed purge leaves Militech trying to prevent NCPD intervention, since an outside investigation could expose why it deployed combat units inside the city 105.
- During the subsequent Biotechnology Tower battle, Militech operates alongside MaxTac. Lier compromises its communications and triggers an EMP across Corporate Plaza while rescuing V and Jackie 120 123.
Badlands Lockdown and Border Escape
- After Lier’s team captures cyberpsychotic officer #8030 at Highway 3, Militech discovers eight dead squad members and orders heightened attention toward the Badlands 148.
- Stout sends a mechanized infantry company to surround the Stone Ridge tunnel. The Nomads destroy its convoy with rockets, EMP grenades, and a prepared ambush 171.
- The campaign exposes extensive Militech support for the Wraiths, including experimental armored-unit technology 173 176.
- Stout subsequently helps engineer the border escape, warning the Border Force into a trap and personally killing its colonel. Lier’s crew disables troops and drones, breaches the wall, and escapes toward Mexico 183.
Maelstrom Convoy Battle
- Brick and Royce ambush a convoy of six Emperor Ragnar vehicles and two Behemoths, using mortars, EMPs, rockets, and a car bomb 284.
- A Behemoth reveals piloted Centaur Exoskeletons rather than ordinary cargo. Their presence violates the force restrictions attached to Militech’s Badlands security contract 284 285.
- Lier intervenes through the convoy’s combat network. Afterward, Militech announces an investigation into recent convoy movements around Night City 286 292.
Municipal Arms Expansion
- Stout supports Peralez against Arasaka’s proposed security expansion. Mayor Ryan brokers a compromise: stronger NCPD equipment, upgraded MaxTac firepower, and a brief docking period for Arasaka’s Kujira 385.
- The resulting police deployment introduces Centaur Exoskeletons into urban law enforcement 499 500.
Extreme Metal
- Militech scans contestants at its Badlands checkpoint, with drone fire signaling the race’s start 477.
- The Aldecaldos attempt to draw its armored forces away from Lier, but the pursuit does not break off as expected 484.
- At Corporate Plaza, Executioner prepares to fire on gangs crossing the security line. Lier instead turns toward Westbrook, and the entire Valentinos convoy follows without crossing 503.
Corporate Manhunt and Network Reversal
- Militech, Arasaka, Kang Tao, and Network Watch compare evidence and conclude that Burger King is the rogue AI Muramasa. Their alliance immediately includes competing claims over his equipment and technology 653.
- During the encirclement, Militech deploys tanks and supporting infantry against Sixth Street and the Aldecaldos 684.
- Lier destroys Militech’s cyber-nuke and frees Songbird from her rogue AI, securing her agreement to attack the corporation’s networks 683.
- Songbird’s counterattack turns Militech’s combat machines against friendly forces. Simultaneous trouble aboard the Kujira undermines the alliance’s information sharing, and the corporations revert to pursuing their own interests 691.
