The Voodoo Boys' so-called "voodoo" was actually just network expertise that surpassed the level of street punks and barely reached corporate operational standards.
Brigitte was an ambitious hacker with skills and even excellent luck.
Network Watch advertised itself as the last barrier between humanity and AI, humanity's last hope. But like every street kid, Brigitte remained skeptical, and she really did find an organization:
She learned techniques on some BBS forums and heard some very credible rumors about Network Watch-
"Network Watch says the Old Net is full of rogue AIs, that hackers will be attacked and have their brains fried the moment they make contact, and it has isolated the Old Net with the Blackwall.
"But the Old Net is actually full of treasures, full of miraculous AI technology, and the Blackwall is also an AI.
"Network Watch uses AI to stop others from obtaining AI technology from the Old Net, giving itself the upper hand in network technology."
So Brigitte's highest ideal as an AI was to cross the Blackwall and obtain knowledge from the Old Net-
She had accomplished that, too. Many of the Voodoo Boys' technologies had been dug out of the Old Net after breaching the Blackwall. This was the very foundation that allowed them to survive in the Pacific State, and even rule it.
But she had always approached contact with AI with awe: like Black Haitians facing so-called "voodoo," she coveted that power while also fearing it.
She had actually made contact with some AIs, too. They always approached cautiously, probing each other, communicating, trading.
And she had begun trying to devise a way to capture AI using the equipment she had obtained from Dexter.
But.
But.
Why could someone order an AI around like an underling?!
After all these years of development,
