They kept coming, wave after wave, charging forward without end! No one could do anything. Gilneas's high walls had not made those behind them feel safe, as the King had once promised. Below them were swaying undead like an ocean tide, countless spider-like creatures charging forward, and enormous monsters whose bodies looked as though they had been stitched together from the skin of rotting corpses. Tobias breathed carefully. All he could smell was gunpowder and the stench of the vast horde of corpses, nearly enough to make him vomit.

Not far away, King Genn, the spiritual pillar of the Gilneans, had personally come to the battlefield. Another man stood beside him. He looked like a warlock from the Cult of the Damned, but he was actually the renowned royal Archmage Arugal. Tobias watched them from the battlements atop Greymane Wall.

"By The Holy Light, they're endless," a soldier spat. "Those Lordaeron bastards should all die!"

Tobias suddenly thought of the human kingdom bordering Gilneas. All these sins had come from that place. Several weeks earlier, messengers from Lordaeron had begged Gilneas for aid, only to be refused by the King. Tobias could not say that abandoning them to their fate had been right, but now he knew that even Gilneas's cannon fire would struggle to halt the advance of the Scourge Undead.

Firelight reflected from their battered armor. The army of the dead continued without retreating. Those undead creatures had no minds. They had only one purpose: to breach the walls.

Gilnean soldiers outside the walls held their line, futilely firing cannon shots into the enemy ranks. Trails of flame cut through the darkness until they struck their targets. Yet whenever one undead creature caught fire and burned, another immediately filled its place.
