At six the next morning, Jiang Lan arrived at the North Gate right on time.
Day had yet to fully break, but quite a few people were already standing in the clearing outside the North Gate as the mobile squads assembled.
Jiang Lan found the Third Squad's Rally Point and walked over.
Three people from the squad had already arrived, all wearing standard-issue Military Combat Uniforms. They looked to be soldiers around thirty years old.
At the front stood a tall, broad middle-aged man with a composed expression and a formidable presence.
He was probably the captain for this mission.
Jiang Lan walked over to report in. The man looked him up and down before speaking.
"You're the Academy's Special Admissions Student?"
"Yes."
"My name's Zhou Yi." The captain briefly introduced himself, then pointed to the other three. "Old Li, Old Zhang, Old Wang. All in the blood exchange realm."
The three nodded to Jiang Lan by way of greeting.
Their gazes, however, could hardly be called friendly.
They probably felt that, as soldiers carrying out a mission, having an Academy student thrown into their ranks would only hold them back.
Having lived two lives, Jiang Lan could naturally tell what the three were thinking.
Still, he could not be bothered to explain.
His strength would speak for him.
Jiang Lan believed that by the end of the day, their opinion of him would change.
Zhou Yi wasted no more words on the matter and said directly, "We're responsible for the outer perimeter west of the North Gate. Our mission is to patrol and intercept ferocious beasts migrating south and keep the flank secure."
He glanced at Jiang Lan and continued, "We'll handle anything fourth tier or above. For now, follow along and get a feel for things. Don't rush
