| Name | Ferocious Beast |
| Original Name | 凶兽 |
| Species/Race | Collective category encompassing wolves, tigers, lizards, bears, rhinoceroses, and other beast forms 6 31 70 98. |
| Role | Threats to human settlements and sources of essence blood, Beast Cores, and other materials 5 6 190. |
| Habitat | Abandoned urban ruins, wilderness forests, and caves, including the Northern Suburbs Ruins and Deep Wilderness Zone 23 70 140. |
| Documented Ranks | First through seventh tier 6 190. |
Power Progression
Ferocious Beasts are ranked by tier. Higher tiers bring greater combat power and intelligence; reaching the sixth tier causes extensive physical changes that can obscure a beast’s original form 146 147.
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| First tier | 6 | Includes the Ironback Wolf. Shen Qingqiu and Zhao Gang readily kill beasts of this tier during salvage expeditions. |
| Second tier | 6 24 | Corresponds to the human Meridian Opening stage. Examples include the Bloodfang Tiger and Ironback Wolf King, the latter identified as a superior form of the Ironback Wolf. |
| Third tier | 32 70 96 | Includes the Black-Horned Savage Bull, Gray-Maned Leopard, Rock-Tusked Boar, and Iron-Horned Sheep. Third-tier beasts are common in the wilderness outside Central Base City. |
| Fourth tier | 69 70 96 | Comparable to the human Blood Exchange Realm. Documented examples include the Iron-Clad Bear and Red-Maned Lion. |
| Fifth tier | 98 122 128 141 | Corresponds to the human Divine Strength Realm. Examples include the Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros, Red-Maned Lion King, Iron-Clad Bear, and Raging-Horn Savage Bull. Mid-, late-, and peak-fifth-tier beasts are distinguished. |
| Sixth tier | 113 130 147 190 | Corresponds to the human Diamond Realm. Bodies undergo major combat-oriented transformations. Both unidentified armored beasts and a sixth-tier Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros appear. |
| Seventh tier | 190 | Xing identifies an approaching seventh-tier beast during the assault on Base City. Its presence makes Jiang Lan take the threat seriously; its form and abilities are not shown in the provided encounter. |
Appearance
- Ironback Wolf: A first-tier specimen stands approximately 1.3 meters at the shoulder and measures nearly two meters long, excluding its tail. It has exposed fangs and vicious-looking eyes 6.
- Bloodfang Tiger: Stands over two meters at the shoulder, with crimson scales instead of fur and two exceptionally sharp canine teeth 6.
- Ironback Wolf King: Nearly two meters at the shoulder, with dark-red fur and eyes resembling burning flames 24.
- Red-Scaled Lizard: Approximately two meters long, with dark-red scales and four short, thick legs 31.
- Iron-Clad Bear: Has a blackish-brown body, coarse iron-gray bristles, pillar-like limbs, and protective armor plates 70 71.
- Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros: A fifth-tier specimen measures seven to eight meters long, with thick dark-gray armor and two curved, blade-like horns 98.
- Sixth-tier armored beast: One specimen exceeds ten meters in length, stands five to six meters at the shoulder, and has gray-black armor and dark-golden eyes 130.
Abilities & Skills
Physical Strength and Speed
Ferocious Beasts possess an innate size and strength advantage over human martial artists of equivalent rank 6.
- Ordinary martial artists generally hunt beasts below their own rank. Against an equivalent opponent, two martial artists are usually needed to hold their own and three to secure victory 6.
- The fifth-tier benchmark is described as approximately 130,000 kilograms of force and speeds reaching 2,500 meters per second. Large bodies can reduce speed while increasing strength 98.
- Sixth-tier beasts correspond to Diamond Realm martial artists, whose entry threshold is 500 tonnes of punching force and 10,000 meters per second 113.
- Large beasts can demolish rock walls and trees through charges; powerful roars can also break trees or stagger nearby martial artists 98 130 147 190.
Armor and Vitality
Many beasts possess scales, shells, or armor plates, but these defenses vary substantially between species and tiers 31 85 131.
- The Four-Unlike Ferocious Beast’s shell is tougher than an Iron-Clad Bear’s, initially taking only a faint white mark from Jiang Lan’s Iron Mountain Fist 85.
- A sixth-tier beast withstands a punch exceeding 200,000 kilograms of force without moving. A kick capable of breaking a late-fifth-tier Iron-Clad Bear’s armor leaves only a shallow mark 131.
- Sixth-tier vitality substantially exceeds fifth-tier vitality: the Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros survives Jiang Lan’s first crippling strike before dying to a second 190.
Intelligence and Threat Assessment
Higher-tier beasts become considerably more intelligent and may avoid opponents whose auras signal overwhelming strength 146.
- The Four-Unlike Ferocious Beast repeatedly lies down to protect its vulnerable abdomen when Jiang Lan approaches 85.
- A sixth-tier beast shows confusion when Jiang Lan survives attacks that previously killed humans entering its territory 130.
- Fourth-tier beasts normally attack humans or remain guarded in a standoff. Fleeing beasts that ignore humans are treated as a sign of abnormal conditions 112.
Vulnerabilities
Armor does not protect every part of a beast equally; successful hunters exploit joints, gaps, and comparatively thin sections 85 105 147.
- Four-Unlike Ferocious Beast: Repeated attacks damage its hind-leg joints; provoking it into standing exposes its belly armor 85.
- Iron-Clad Bear: Gaps between abdominal armor plates provide an opening for Earth-Cracking Leg 105.
- Unidentified sixth-tier beast: Its temple has thinner armor, allowing repeated punches to break through 147.
- Sixth-tier Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros: Xing’s Combat Assistance System identifies the left eye, rear, and inner hind leg as weak points 190.
Habitat and Distribution
- Outlying Base City ruins: Broken buildings and rubble shelter scattered low- and mid-tier beasts 70.
- Central Base City wilderness: Dense primeval forest supports numerous third-tier beasts, with fourth-tier opponents encountered farther inside 70.
- Deep Wilderness Zone: High beast density accompanies sparse vegetation, exposed rock, cracked earth, and trees torn apart by beasts 140.
- Spirit-rich caves: Beasts occupy caves containing natural spiritual energy crystals or Spirit Vein Ore 85 140 141.
- Displaced populations: During the wilderness upheaval, fourth-tier beasts appear near the outer–middle-zone boundary rather than remaining in the middle zone. Later patrols report population density two to three times higher than before 105 121.
Materials and Cultivation Uses
| Resource | Properties and Uses |
|---|---|
| Essence blood | The most valuable part of a beast. Jiang Lan’s system consumes it to upgrade Indestructible Diamond Body, beginning with first-tier blood and later requiring higher-tier supplies 6 7 42 105 123. |
| Beast Core | A beast’s energy core. Zhao Gang extracts an Ironback Wolf’s core from its skull; that first-tier core is worth approximately 1,000 Credit Points 6. |
| Higher-tier blood and cores | A sixth-tier beast produces noticeably better-quality essence blood than fifth-tier beasts and a core larger than Jiang Lan’s fist 147. |
| Other materials | Salvage teams and hunting groups collect beast materials for sale, rewards, and points. Hunting beasts is the Salvage Team’s main objective; recovering scrap is secondary 5 69 98. |
- Base City has a major trading hub devoted to ferocious beast materials 8.
- Academies distribute essence blood as cultivation resources and tournament prizes 29 48.
- Hunt scoring depends on the event: one assessment weighs kill count, beast tier, and individual performance separately 31.
History and Major Incidents
Loss of the Northern Suburbs
Twenty years before Jiang Lan’s early salvage expeditions, a beast tide forced Base City to retreat and abandon territory. The resulting ruins became salvage grounds where teams hunted beasts and recovered usable materials 5.
Northern Wilderness Migration
Large-scale southward migration began when at least three late-fifth-tier beasts fought over territory in the Northern Wilderness Zone, driving surrounding beasts outward. Reconnaissance also detected a suspected sixth-tier presence, prompting preparations for a much greater threat 113.
The military established three defensive lines and deployed mobile squads to intercept beasts bypassing their flanks. A second detection strengthened confirmation of the sixth-tier beast, and the military began gathering Diamond Realm martial artists 113 117.
Jiang Lan’s Sixth-Tier Encounters
Jiang Lan remained behind to delay a sixth-tier beast while Han Zheng’s team escaped. Unable to penetrate its armor effectively, he survived until Deputy Commander Chen and two other Diamond Realm fighters arrived 130 131.
In a later encounter, Jiang Lan killed a sixth-tier beast himself. He gradually damaged its armor, broke its right foreleg, and finished it with repeated strikes to the temple before harvesting its blood and core 147.
Ruins-Driven Rampages
The Guardian Manor discovered that seven awakening Ancient Ruins were provoking Ferocious Beasts worldwide. Xing later explained that the ruins’ matching energy frequencies signaled an integrating array; the released energy drove surrounding creatures into a frenzy. This integration preceded the arrival of the Harvesters, making the rampages part of a final “fattening” before the harvest 164 188.
During the subsequent assault on Base City, mixed herds attacked the outer defensive line. Jiang Lan killed a fifth-tier Raging-Horn Savage Bull with one punch and a sixth-tier Black-Armored Giant Rhinoceros with two before Xing detected an approaching seventh-tier beast 190.
