Background / History
Transmigration and the Salvage Team
Jiang Lan dies after being struck by a truck on Earth and awakens injured in an unfamiliar room on Blue Star. Memories belonging to the body's original owner explain the new world, where spiritual energy returned a century earlier and Ferocious Beasts became a widespread threat. He initially lives under Shen Qingqiu's care 1 5.
Unable to afford shop-bought essence blood, Jiang Lan returns to the Salvage Team to obtain upgrade materials outside the city. His first documented upgrade follows an Ironback Wolf kill. He conceals the system by accepting Shen Qingqiu's explanation that his unusual durability comes from an awakened special talent 3 4 7 10.
Li Hu's repeated harassment culminates in a wilderness spar. Jiang Lan withstands Li Hu's full-strength punch and retaliates with a blow that sends him flying. As the gap between them widens, Jiang Lan loses interest in pursuing the rivalry unless Li Hu provokes him again 12 41.
Academy Recruitment and Training
Several academies compete to recruit Jiang Lan as a special-talent student. He chooses Ultimate Dao Martial Academy and enrolls in its Rocket Class with student identification number HJ-001. Academy essence-blood allotments become an important source of upgrade materials 16 17 18 22.
Xiao Feng identifies the weakness in Jiang Lan's early fighting style: he possesses exceptional strength but lacks proper methods of applying it. Jiang Lan subsequently learns Iron Mountain Fist and begins combining physical upgrades with martial technique. During the inter-academy tournament, he defeats Li Chuang and then Astral Condensation fighter Qin Yue 21 27 47.
A recommendation for advanced study brings him to the attention of Central Base City's Ultimate Martial Academy. Su Wan assesses his abilities and assigns Lu Yuan as his personal mentor. Jiang Lan later outgrows Lu Yuan's sparring ability, and his rapid improvement leads Su Wan to suspect a mutated talent 54 57 58 65 90.
Wei Chong becomes his later instructor, teaching him timing, evasion, and composure through demanding sparring sessions. After Jiang Lan can withstand Wei Chong's full-strength blow and force him backward, Wei Chong acknowledges that he can no longer serve as a suitable sparring partner 102 104 125.
Guardian Manor and the Ruins
During a military operation, Jiang Lan holds off a sixth-tier Ferocious Beast for more than a minute and survives until Diamond Realm fighters intervene. Deputy Commander Chen later contacts him, leading into discussions about the Guardian Manor. By the Jiangnan mining-area escort mission, Jiang Lan identifies himself as a member who joined the previous month 131 137 138 149.
Guardian Manor work gives him access to missions, Contribution Points, and the Inner Domain. After confirming that physical objects can pass between the Inner Domain and reality, he uses its market to obtain cultivation resources for Shen Qingqiu 149 152 183.
Jiang Lan joins Shen Fang's expedition to Ruins No. 7, taking a mysterious sphere and his Token. There, he encounters an auxiliary intelligent entity and learns that the ruins are part of an array system cultivating Blue Star's life and resources for eventual harvesting 165 169 170.
Removing Spiritual Qi Cores can delay the arrays' integration, but cannot permanently stop it because the cores regenerate. Jiang Lan shares the threat with Ji, lends three cores for research, and urges the retrieval of the remaining cores to buy Blue Star more time 170 188.
Base Command and Beast Tides
Jiang Lan and Shen Qingqiu later settle at Qin Longtian's base. Jiang Lan receives command authority and formally completes a handover ceremony. After assessing Qin Ling's group, he agrees to lead them and promises access to the best resources for their development 197 198 200.
He leads the group against a Beast Tide at Qin Longtian's request, but repeatedly clashes with base veterans over resources, treatment of his followers, and demands placed on him. He insists that his willingness to help does not make him responsible for every problem at the base 215 229 231 236.
While investigating the continuing Beast Tides, Jiang Lan fights an underground creature approaching transformation into a flood dragon. He kills it by slashing its neck and emerges with an oversized Golden Core, explaining that its energy supply had sustained the tides. He later remains unable to refine the recovered core for his own use 244 245 257.
A neighboring Base Chief attempts to recruit him with promises of better treatment, but Jiang Lan rejects the offer. His later disputes at Qin Longtian's base continue to center on resource allocation, his support for Qin Ling's team, and his refusal to accept unsolicited orders 248 249 255 256 260.
Appearance
Jiang Lan is described as exceptionally handsome, with a lean, muscular build that becomes more defined as his physical attributes improve 8 88.
- Height: Six feet 8.
- Hair: Medium-length 8.
- Build: No excess fat, sharply defined muscles, and eight visible abdominal muscles 8.
- Academy clothing: A black school uniform bearing Ultimate Dao Martial Academy's crest and a dark-gray training uniform 18.
Personality
Jiang Lan is self-reliant and reluctant to exploit Shen Qingqiu's generosity. Even when essence blood is unaffordable, he avoids borrowing money unless necessary and instead seeks hunting opportunities. He explicitly resolves to stop being a burden 3 8.
He generally dislikes the spotlight and has little interest in boasting about his abilities. Insults aimed at the body's previous owner do not particularly trouble him; he regards practical improvement as more important than defending his reputation through argument 4 5 12 22.
His tolerance ends when others deliberately provoke him or mistreat people under his protection. He favors decisive retaliation as a deterrent, defends Qin Ling's group against hostile veterans, and rejects attempts to turn his assistance into an unconditional obligation 13 231 236 256.
He remains patient with repetitive training and recognizes that the system cannot replace experience. His gratitude toward Lu Yuan and Wei Chong reflects his understanding that technique, timing, and calm judgment must be learned rather than gained through levels alone 27 90 125.
Shen Qingqiu is his strongest emotional attachment. His concern develops from gratitude and protectiveness into openly expressed romantic affection, and he places Shen Qingqiu's opinion above the judgments of outsiders 41 119 138 249.
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts Infinite Upgrade System
The system upgrades Indestructible Diamond Body by consuming qualifying resources or accumulating progress from concentrated spiritual energy 7 103 148.
- Displays his martial realm, technique level, defense, vitality, strength, spirit, agility, constitution, and next upgrade requirement 7 39.
- Accepts progressively higher-tier Ferocious Beast essence blood and later Spirit Vein Ore 39 103 123 148.
- Allows concentrated spiritual energy to replace essence blood; chamber progress can be combined with stored materials to complete an upgrade 69 103 134.
- Commonly increases the material requirement after an upgrade, making academy resources, hunting, and exchanges important to continued advancement 19 29 89.
- Can upgrade him without visible external disturbance, allowing him to improve unnoticed during an expedition rest 167.
Indestructible Diamond Body
His core ability strengthens his body through repeated upgrades, increasing defense and vitality while also improving individual physical or mental attributes 7 18 19.
- Withstands Li Hu's full-strength Meridian Opening punch early in his progression 12.
- Endures a third-tier Black-Horned Savage Bull's charge and physically wrestles with its horns 32.
- Develops beyond the limitations expected of an ordinary defensive talent, prompting Su Wan's mutated-talent hypothesis 90.
- Allows him to survive a prolonged encounter with a sixth-tier beast before he can reliably defeat such opponents 131 132.
- Limit: Durability does not guarantee victory; after reaching level thirty-two, Jiang Lan still believes he cannot defeat the sixth-tier beast from the military mission 132.
- Unresolved property: He does not understand the exact function of the vitality stat and notes that it has never decreased like a conventional health bar 116.
Enhanced Perception and Attack Reading
Spirit and mental-attribute upgrades sharpen Jiang Lan's hearing, vision, reaction speed, and awareness of attacks 19 64.
- Can hear Shen Qingqiu breathing in another room after an early spirit upgrade 19.
- Anticipates attack direction and impact points by observing an opponent's movement 64 66.
- Learns to read shoulders, balance, and footwork under Lu Yuan's instruction 66.
- Uses anticipation to compensate when a sixth-tier beast is faster than him 147.
Iron Mountain Fist
A foundational fist technique that links force from the feet through the legs, waist, hips, shoulders, and striking fist 27.
- Converts his raw strength into a coordinated whole-body strike 21 27.
- Requires repeated stance and power-generation practice before he achieves an uninterrupted sequence 27.
- Used to exploit openings against Wei Chong and strike armored sixth-tier prey 104 147.
Earth-Cracking Leg
A kicking technique that becomes increasingly effective as Jiang Lan improves his method of exerting force 81.
- Produces substantially greater measured force than his punches 81 104.
- Used with Wind-Walking Step to defeat a simulated fourth-tier Iron-Clad Bear 83.
- Fits his preference for decisive, powerful attacks rather than numerous weaker strikes 74.
Wind-Walking Step
High-speed footwork that lets Jiang Lan rapidly reposition, close distance, and disengage 76 104 147.
- Initially allows controlled movement and stopping within a ten-meter radius 76.
- Can look like teleportation to ordinary observers, but is explicitly movement at extreme speed rather than actual teleportation 76 89 109.
- Supports evasive movement, flanking attacks, and hit-and-retreat tactics 104 147.
Defensive Counterattacks and Combinations
Lu Yuan teaches Jiang Lan to combine his durability with deliberate openings, sustained attack sequences, and well-timed counters 66.
- Baits opponents into striking an exposed opening, then counters at the moment of contact 66.
- Links successive punches to maintain pressure rather than relying on isolated blows 66.
- Further develops evasion rhythm, punching timing, and composure under Wei Chong 125.
- Limit: These skills require instruction and practice; Jiang Lan explicitly distinguishes them from benefits obtained by leveling 125.
Hunting and Fieldcraft
Repeated wilderness expeditions make Jiang Lan an efficient hunter and collector of beast materials 32 109.
- Harvests essence blood and Beast Cores for upgrades, sale, and exchange 7 32 152.
- Eventually tears open fourth-tier beast corpses barehanded, greatly accelerating collection 109.
- Earns permission for solo wilderness trips by first proving he can kill a simulated fourth-tier beast 82 83.
- Leads both academy companions and Qin Ling's team into the field 32 215.
