Appearance
- Hair: Disheveled, initially tied in a casual knot 197.

- Other scars: Numerous injuries acquired while growing up in the Valley of Villains, including some not inflicted by humans 197.
- Expression: Frequently wears a mischievous or devil-may-care smile. His face retains a distinctive appeal despite its scar 197.
Personality
Jiang Xiaoyu’s upbringing made survival his first priority. He remains calm while fleeing stronger opponents, accepts that retreat can be sensible, and lies as readily as he speaks. His initial entry into the Sun Moon Holy Cult combines a false identity, a request for medical treatment, and an attempt to secure protection from Yaoyue 197.
He is ruthless toward enemies. Taught that kindness to an opponent is cruelty to oneself, he finishes off fallen attackers rather than trusting them to remain harmless. He also uses deception and surprise without treating an enemy’s request to stop fighting as binding 209 338.
His loyalty to Lin Lang develops gradually. He initially accepts the apprenticeship without complete sincerity, but Lin Lang’s instruction and help avenging his parents turn that arrangement into genuine devotion. By the Great Sui expedition, he regards insults against his master as intolerable 305.
Pride in being Lin Lang’s personal disciple drives an intense rivalry with his junior brothers. Beneath his joking manner, he trains harder than any of them, according to Lin Lang. He wants to surpass his master rather than merely remain the strongest disciple 343 544 545. Despite his sly reputation and harsh methods, Lin Lang considers him kinder than his fellow disciples precisely because he has witnessed so much evil 529.
He shows little interest in marriage. His experiences with Murong Jiu, Yaoyue, and Lianxing contributed to his distrust of women, while he believes preserving his primordial yang benefits cultivation. He considers taking a successor disciple sufficient and leaves continuation of the family line to Hua Wuque 525.
History
Valley of Villains and Entry into the Holy Cult
Several of the Ten Great Villains helped raise Jiang Xiaoyu in the Valley of Villains, where he became known as its Little Demon Star. Their lessons in martial arts and Jianghu survival were dangerous enough that carelessness could kill him. Nevertheless, he regarded Du Sha and the others as the people who raised him, not as his own enemies, while recognizing that they were Yan Nantian’s enemies 197 207 208.
To escape Yaoyue’s demand that he duel Hua Wuque, Jiang Xiaoyu sought refuge at Blackwood Cliff. He entered under the name “River Big Fish,” obtained treatment from Ping Yizhi, and consumed valuable medicinal supplies taken from the physician’s premises. His subsequent breakthrough attracted attention, and Lin Lang exposed his identity 197 198.
Lin Lang overpowered him, revealed knowledge of his parents and twin brother, and accepted him as a disciple after receiving a written copy of the Five Uniques Divine Skill. Ren Woxing appointed Jiang Xiaoyu an elder and promised protection from Yaoyue. Lin Lang began teaching him the Indestructible Vajra Divine Skill and subjected him to three days of punishing training 198.
Family Revelation and Revenge
Yaoyue attacked Blackwood Cliff after discovering Jiang Xiaoyu’s refuge. During his fight with Hua Wuque, Lin Lang revealed that they were twins and that Yaoyue and Lianxing had engineered their parents’ deaths and intended the brothers to kill each other. When Hua Wuque collapsed after hearing the truth, Jiang Xiaoyu carried him to Ping Yizhi for treatment 200 202.
Jiang Xiaoyu blamed himself for drawing the attack to Blackwood Cliff and for Ren Woxing’s death, but Lin Lang rejected that guilt. Lin Lang also identified Jiang Biehe as Jiang Qin, the servant whose betrayal had exposed Jiang Feng and Hua Yuenu’s whereabouts 203 204.
After Lin Lang returned with Yaoyue’s head, Jiang Xiaoyu learned that the Valley of Villains had also been destroyed. He thanked Lin Lang for avenging its inhabitants and was relieved to hear that Yan Nantian had apparently been rescued beforehand 208.
Jiang Xiaoyu then brought Holy Cult reinforcements to defend Moving Flower Palace against Jiang Biehe’s coalition. Using his Indestructible Vajra Body, he defeated Jiang Biehe while Hua Wuque killed Jiang Yulang. The brothers subsequently received permission to pursue the Twelve Zodiac Signs assassins involved in their parents’ deaths 208 209.
Expeditions and Cult Responsibilities
At Spirit Vulture Palace, Jiang Xiaoyu killed Zhuo Bufan after dozens of exchanges. Li Qiushui later forced him and his companions into hiding with the Heavenly Mountain Child Elder. Jiang Xiaoyu refused to provide the blood she requested to restore her strength, trusting Lin Lang to rescue them instead 231.
Afterward, he and Hua Wuque discovered the palace’s hidden martial inheritance, which Lin Lang ordered him to copy. He also helped seize the Murong family’s martial collection, disguising the looting as an operation by the Twelve Linked Docks 233 238.
Lin Lang increasingly entrusted him with administration. His analysis of the Dragon-Slaying Saber rumors earned praise and an instruction to assist Xiang Wentian with cult affairs. Those responsibilities continued alongside regular martial tests and training 287 289 302.
Sent to gain experience in Great Sui, Jiang Xiaoyu and Hua Wuque became involved in the confrontation surrounding Kou Zhong, Xu Ziling, and the Evil King’s Tomb. Both brothers escaped injured after losing to Song Zhi 305. Jiang Xiaoyu later fought the Heavenly Sect’s ambush party, killing many attackers before Lin Lang captured Young Master 313.
When Yan Nantian offered to take the brothers under his wing, Jiang Xiaoyu refused to leave, affirming that he already had a master and a suitable inheritance 317.
Establishing His Own Martial Path
Jiang Xiaoyu sought instruction through challenging stronger opponents, including A’Fei and Xiao Feng. Both exposed weaknesses in his technique despite his extensive collection of divine arts 265 333 334.
His rivalry with Hua Wuque remained an important spur. After reaching Heaven-Man first, he defeated his brother in both weapon and unarmed exchanges 376. He later fought Xia Ke Island’s Zhang San and Li Si together without falling behind before Lin Lang ended the encounter 380.
His increasingly eclectic martial foundation eventually became muddled. Rather than depend immediately on Lin Lang’s promised shortcut to Martial Arts Myth, he chose seclusion to organize what he had learned. The Origin Returning Manual and Thousand-Year Fire Turtle heart subsequently enabled his breakthrough 407 413.
Persia and Training at Sea
Wanting practical experience rather than endless administrative work, Jiang Xiaoyu received permission to accompany Daiqisi to Persia and help her become leader of the Persian Ming Cult. He departed with ten Great Grandmasters 451 491.
His delayed return worried Lin Lang enough to request a divination of his fortune. The delay resulted from Jiang Xiaoyu’s training: after rescuing someone who fell overboard, he discovered the increasing pressure of deeper water and repeatedly used deep-sea dives to temper himself. Storms also inspired his study of martial techniques 491 501.
He returned with a submission from Persia’s rulers, translated martial manuals, and news of a mysterious ship. Impressed by his independent progress, Lin Lang rewarded him with the Xuanwu True Skill and Ten Strongest Martial Dao 501.
Sword Realm and Succession
Jiang Xiaoyu confronted Wu Wudi at Great Ming’s palace after learning that the emperor was considering the Xuanwu True Skill. Although vastly outmatched in realm, his familiarity with the art allowed him to evade and counter several attacks 522 523.
While traveling afterward, he detected weakened space above a lake and cut it open with Moon in the Well, inadvertently releasing Jian Yue from the Sword Realm. He refused Jian Yue’s offer of discipleship and brought him to Blackwood Cliff to face Lin Lang 525 526 527.
The encounter considerably improved Jiang Xiaoyu’s swordsmanship. Lin Lang subsequently judged his sword techniques superior to those of Bu Jingyun and Shi Potian, and slightly better than Duan Lang’s. Jiang Xiaoyu declined a divine sword, preferring to continue using Moon in the Well while working toward eventually abandoning weapons altogether 529.
He later located Demon Lord Bai Suzhen in Southern Shaolin’s Wooden Dummy Alley after an unsuccessful search around West Lake 543.
Lin Lang ultimately selected him to succeed Ren Yingying as Cult Leader. Jiang Xiaoyu accepted but pledged to return the position to Lin Ying when his little junior brother grew up and to assist him as Left Envoy. By the creation of the expanded War God Palace grotto-heaven, he was serving as the cult’s new leader 559 562.
Abilities & Skills
Five Uniques Divine Skill and Martial Integration
The Five Uniques Divine Skill forms the foundation of Jiang Xiaoyu’s martial path, allowing him to incorporate a broad range of techniques 302 407.
- Combines fist, palm, finger, leg, saber, and sword techniques into highly varied attacks 302.
- Integrates the Origin Returning Manual to comprehend All Methods Return to the Origin 413.
- Draws insights from both basic martial arts and divine skills; Lin Lang emphasizes understanding their creators’ martial principles rather than merely copying moves 419.
- Initially suffers from incorporating too many arts without sufficiently organizing them 407.
- His experience integrating different systems makes him particularly suited to the Xuanwu True Skill and Ten Strongest Martial Dao 501.
Defensive Body Cultivation
Jiang Xiaoyu learns the Indestructible Vajra Divine Skill from Lin Lang and later partially comprehends the Indestructible Golden Body 198 526.
- Uses the Indestructible Vajra Body to defeat Jiang Biehe and survive A’Fei’s sudden thrust 209 265.
- Gains enhanced physical toughness through Divine Dragon blood and repeated essence-blood transformations 526.
- Demonstrates rapid wound recovery once Jian Yue removes the sword qi lingering in his injury 526.
- His defense is not absolute: Jian Yue’s sword qi cuts him despite his reinforced body 526.
- Lin Lang criticizes his tendency to rely on the Vajra Body rather than fully exploit his other techniques 313.
Force Redirection
Jiang Xiaoyu practices Heaven and Earth Great Shift, using it alongside his other martial arts 313.
- Redirects an attacker’s sword toward Young Master to create an opening for a killing strike 313.
- Cannot redirect Xiao Feng’s overwhelming palm force during their spar 334.
- Initially fails to exploit opportunities against attacks that trade injury for injury, prompting further instruction from Lin Lang 313.
Sword and Saber Techniques
Jiang Xiaoyu treats saber and sword methods as interchangeable expressions of the same underlying principles 343 526 529.
- Incorporates saber techniques into his swordsmanship, then later performs both systems with Moon in the Well 343 529.
- Attacks nonfatal targets that an opponent must still defend, increasing his available variations 302.
- Receives guidance from Yan Shisan that sharply improves his sword techniques and strengthens his killing intent 429.
- Recognizes annihilation, death, shattering, and slaughter sword intents demonstrated by Jian Yue 526.
- Receives private instruction in eight yin-and-yang-based sword moves developed by Lin Lang. Their full use requires controlling evil intent; without that control, Lin Lang forbids their use except in a life-or-death struggle 529.
- Cannot master the Ambidextrous Skill and does not pursue simultaneous dual-weapon use 529.
Natural-Environment Training and Spiritual Perception
Jiang Xiaoyu uses environmental pressure and observation to develop his own martial understanding 491 501.
- Tempers himself through deep-sea pressure, fierce winds, and towering waves 491 501.
- Comprehends a saber move while watching a storm and aims to develop a complete set of techniques from it 491.
- Detects weakened space and opens a passage into the Sword Realm with a saber strike 525 526.
- Uses his primordial spirit to investigate Southern Shaolin’s Wooden Dummy Alley and senses the power of Maha Boundless 543.
- Believes he can create a personal secret art using nature’s power rather than simply imitate Maha Boundless 543.
Strategy, Deception, and Administration
Jiang Xiaoyu’s practical intelligence supports both field operations and management of the Holy Cult 238 287.
- Identifies the scale and likely strategic purpose of the Dragon-Slaying Saber rumor campaign 287.
- Conceals the seizure of the Murong family’s collection by attributing it to the Twelve Linked Docks 238.
- Handles cult intelligence, assists its leadership, and later enforces Lin Lang’s stricter recruitment standards 287 360 362.
- Uses poison powder when attempting to escape Lin Lang’s grip, though Lin Lang neutralizes it immediately 198.
