Background / History

Confinement and awakening

Gu Changqing transmigrated into the Primordial World during the Investiture of the Gods era, becoming the clay idol of a ruined temple. For countless years, he could only watch and listen: the prayers of farmers, scholars, and travelers lacked sufficient vow power to activate his system. This prolonged confinement gradually left him numb 1.

Yang Jian arrived wounded, carrying his unconscious sister and begging for the strength to rescue his mother. His incense carried divine bloodline karma and intense resentment, finally activating Gu Changqing’s system. Recognizing the future Erlang, Gu Changqing accepted him as his first disciple and transmitted the Divine Elephant Suppressing Prison Force 1 2.

Disrupting the Heavenly Court’s campaign

Yang Jian’s victories supplied Gu Changqing with cultivation and law insights through multiplied returns. Gu Changqing initially remained concealed, judging that local supremacy offered little protection against the Saints or Hongjun 3 11.

After Nezha joined his lineage, Gu Changqing used the two disciples’ contrasting strengths to undermine the Heavenly Court. He directed Yang Jian toward Yu Ding Zhenren’s Eight-Nine Arcane Art and encouraged Nezha to seize Randeng’s Qiankun Ruler. When Zhunti’s manifestation threatened to destroy Nezha, Gu Changqing intervened remotely rather than reveal his true body 17 21.

He subsequently sent Nezha to subdue the Four Seas and instructed Yang Jian to secure protection for Yao Ji and Yang Chan at Kunlun. Their successes triggered his breakthrough to perfected Daluo Golden Immortal 23 30.

Humanity’s Dao and the Interception Sect

Following his Daluo breakthrough, Gu Changqing sent an avatar to Chaoge and quietly gave Bi Gan a means of surviving the removal of his heart. He later accepted Yin Jiao and Yin Hong, diverting their destined apprenticeships under Guangchengzi and Chijingzi. His stated aim was not to preserve a rotten dynasty, but to use the brothers to rekindle Humanity’s Dao 31 37 38.

When Tongtian investigated the temple, Gu Changqing exposed the destruction awaiting the Interception Sect and the roles other powers would play in it. Tongtian sought a different path, received the Mythic Great Luo Technique, and returned to reform his sect 43 46 48 49.

Yin Jiao’s accession and the spread of the Humanity’s Dao War Canon further disrupted the tribulation. Gu Changqing supported a military system through which mortal soldiers could wield Humanity’s Dao Wishfire, rather than leave Great Shang wholly dependent on immortal protection 55 60.

Confrontations with the Saints

An invasion of Guanjiangkou by Heavenly Court and Western Religion forces activated the Divine Realm’s defenses. Gu Changqing stripped half of Maitreya’s essence, spared him, and sent him back with a warning. The temple’s resulting reputation deterred further direct incursions, shifting his enemies toward attacks on Great Shang and its allies 87 90.

His later interventions became increasingly direct. He protected Kong Xuan from forced conversion, halted Hongjun’s Heavenly Dao Wheel when it threatened Tongtian, and supplied a formation fragment that trapped the Two Sages of the West 132 159 181.

After Humanity proclaimed an independent Dao, the system recognized Gu Changqing as its sole deity of worship. He spent the resulting Fate-Defying Value on technique upgrades, then returned to ordinary concerns such as dinner. He later intervened in Yang Jian’s battle with the Queen Mother by sending a brick broken from his offering table through the Chaotic Void 171 194.

Appearance

Gu Changqing initially exists within a clay idol; later appearances show him standing or sitting separately from the statue in a cyan robe 1 125 136.

  • Original vessel: An ordinary clay sculpture standing on the ruined temple’s altar 1.
  • Transformed idol: Progresses through golden radiance, Dark Metal, and dark-gold coloration as its material becomes divine 3 11 17.
  • Innate divine body: Revealed when the old divine embryo’s shell falls away, entwined with Primordial Purple Patterns 19.
  • Later presentation: Cyan robes, half-lidded eyes, and an unhurried manner beneath the temple’s statue 136.

Personality

Gu Changqing is cautious about exposure and meticulous about strengthening his foundation. Even after major breakthroughs, he suppresses supernatural phenomena, conceals his karma, and considers how Saints might respond. He repeatedly chooses to temper accumulated cultivation rather than pursue an unstable or unsuitable advancement 3 17 30 49.

He treats the tribulation strategically, using its conflicts to redirect destined relationships and generate stronger returns. This pragmatism can be ruthless: he allows invaders to enter his sanctuary before its defenses punish them and preserves Maitreya chiefly as a messenger 17 37 87.

As a teacher, he distinguishes protection from doing everything for his students. He lets Yang Jian face Giant Spirit God to force a breakthrough and refuses to remove Kong Xuan’s Dao Heart problem for him. Conversely, he intervenes when an outside power threatens to erase a disciple outright 6 21 132.

His early vigilance develops into relaxed confidence. Later, he lounges with tea, regards extraordinary techniques as diversions, and supplies decisive assistance without abandoning his recliner 171 181.

Abilities & Skills

Incense-and-Faith Transmission System

Converts teaching relationships, cultivation achievements, and alterations of destiny into rewards for Gu Changqing 1 30 90.

  • Technique deduction: Can fuse compatible cultivation systems and derive new arts 18 19.
  • System Shop: Allows Fate-Defying Value to purchase technique improvements; the Mythic Great Luo Technique is marked as unavailable for upgrading 171.
  • Concealment: Can suppress the karmic traces of rewards and even conceal his Daluo breakthrough 17 30.

Primordial Chaos God-Demon Prison-Suppressing Body

A body-refining art Gu Changqing names after fusing the Divine Elephant Suppressing Prison Force with the Eight-Nine Arcane Art. It treats the body as a universe containing three thousand potential god-demon acupoints 19.

  • His first ten acupores correspond to strength, space, time, transformation, devouring, suppression, slaughter, immortality, karma, and the furnace 19.
  • Each acupore can bear a strand of chaos god-demon power 19.
  • He follows the Primordial Origin godfiend path rather than the Mystic Gate’s corpse-severing route to Quasi-Saint 49.
  • The fiftieth acupore, “The One That Escaped,” requires authority capable of escaping Heavenly Dao control; additional cultivation alone cannot open it 96.

Primordial Divine Realm

A sanctuary centered on Guanjiangkou that conceals Gu Changqing and establishes his authority over its territory 5 60.

  • Heavenly-secret concealment: Primordial Purple Patterns obscure divination and move his true-body karma into the realm’s deeper layers 43 44.
  • Incense anchors: Allow his will to descend instantly wherever an anchor has taken root 60.
  • Local rule-setting: Supports manipulation of local karma and temporary removal of names from the Heavenly Mandate 60.
  • Automatic defenses: Invasion karma activates formations capable of severing military punishment essence and damaging a Quasi-Saint foundation 87.
  • Saint resistance: At thirty acupores, he judges himself capable of confronting a Saint inside the realm if that Saint does not invoke Heavenly Dao authority 49.
  • Creation and Destruction: Incorporates incomplete laws of birth, growth, devouring, and ending into its developing universe 96.

Strength and Soul Suppression

Combines overwhelming physical law with attacks on an opponent’s spiritual weaknesses 17.

  • Divine Elephant Law Domain: Constrains magical power, divine abilities, and treasures through the laws of strength 17.
  • Self-Manifestation Technique — Demon Lord True Form: A phantom that draws on resentment, hatred, fear, and greed to provoke inner demons and disturb the divine soul 17.
  • Immortal Heaven Technique: At maximum level, preserves the true spirit and permits rebirth from a drop of blood 171.
  • Heaven-Swallowing Demonic Art: At maximum level, grants profound mastery of devouring, refining, and unifying origins 171.

Remote Intervention and Formations

Acts through karmic connections, incense anchors, projections, and attacks transmitted across the void 17 31 38.

  • Divine projections and avatars: Visits the mortal world and teaches distant recipients without exposing his main body 31 38.
  • Primordial Violet Finger: Shatters Zhunti’s sacred-light attack from Guanjiangkou, using the Heavenly Emperor Divine Position Fragment and ten Dao resonances 21.
  • Heavenly Dao Wheel interference: Removes a Dao pattern with a finger-flick, stopping the wheel and halting every law in the Primordial World 159.
  • Great Emperor Killing Formation: Sends a fragment that expands into a prison for Zhunti, Jieyin, and their Twelve-Grade Golden Lotus of Merit 181.

Selects techniques according to a recipient’s nature, deficiencies, and circumstances 103 110 111.
