The void opened.
Gray cards flew back into Xu Xingke's hand, one after another.
The images of the Messenger, the King of Hearts, Saint Mage Celine, and the others appeared on these cards.
All of them had their eyes closed, their bodies giving off a faint golden glow, like holy angels.
Every card returned intact.
Xu Xingke said with feeling:
"Humanity's first mission has finally officially begun."
"Can these cards still come back to life?" Shen Ye asked.
"Of course. They represent the mission-when we fully complete the first mission and humanity's second mission begins, they will come back to life again," Xu Xingke said.
"What exactly are they?"
"You can think of them as 'gods' born alongside humanity. They protect the human species."
"So that's how it is..."
Shen Ye was also feeling rather moved when a card suddenly jumped out of the void and landed in his hand.
A burning torch was depicted on the card.
The torch illuminated the blank space, revealing two lines of small black text:
"Poem of Eternity." "Four beings who have returned from traveling through history must gather those black flames together." "When all the flames submit to the Sword of Destruction, humanity will at last stand on its own feet."
Shen Ye read it over several times, then handed the card to Xu Xingke.
Xu Xingke looked at it, thought for a moment, then passed the card to Xiao Mengyu.
"Four-that means the four of us."
"That's right."
"The Sword of Destruction... that should mean your sword."
Shen Ye said.
Xiao Mengyu looked at the card and said:
"I have a faint premonition that that's what it means."
"Do you have any idea what 'humanity will at last stand on its own feet' means?" Shen Ye asked.
"I have a
