Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |

| World Lifeform-level power — temporary | 261 | Empowerment from broken worlds raises his strength to roughly three times its previous level. The Sword Maiden distinguishes him from a World Lifeform: he controls that power rather than becoming one. |
| Advancing toward the Ninth Level of the Dharma Realm | 337 | Insights gained through the Great Tomb give him an opportunity to advance. A completed breakthrough is not confirmed here. |
| Dharma Realm Eighth Layer — confirmed | 382 | Explicitly placed at the same layer as Chu Manshu, whom he renders unconscious with a glance. |
| Curse lifted; recovery resumes | 430 431 | His Card Book changes from black to silvery white, and his appearance becomes that of a man in his twenties. The Sword Maiden’s suppression is also lifted. |
| Incremental strength gains | 535 548 | Receives small increases connected to Shen Ye’s creations. He explicitly denies having made a breakthrough and later explains that strengthening their guardians also strengthens the creations. |
| Grant Death Law Tree — preview | 598 | His unique basic law is displayed before awakening: every all-out strike has a 1% chance to kill its target instantly, regardless of the target’s level. |
| Grant Death — awakened | 602 | The law comes to life during his battle with Sarich. He follows its awakening by deploying Sacrifice and True Dragon, killing Sarich. |
| Level 1 Godslayer Sequence | 645 | Completing the restaurant’s first sale makes him a full-fledged Sequence member and advances his strength by one tier. Gains Return-to-City Art and receives the basic blessing God Is with You alongside Shen Ye. |
Background / History
Xu Xingke has a history as an emperor and military leader. During an earlier struggle against the Destruction Calamity, he helped create an art intended to withstand it, but traitors caused the Eternal Brain to malfunction at the decisive moment. Without its eternal power, the art could no longer be used. He later confronts former allies who had killed their own people rather than merely fleeing the enemy 576 600.
His reputation among the Resistance Army combines rescue work with ruthless punishment. After a military officer’s descendant preyed on civilian girls, Xu Xingke killed the offender, fought through those protecting him, and killed the senior officer. In another battle, he suffered grave injuries saving his companions. Major organizations exploited his weakened condition to pursue his Card Book, making him an SSS-rank wanted criminal. He nevertheless retained a Grand Marshal Emblem and accepted Dantai Mingyue’s renewed service 402.
Xu Xingke recuperates on Death Planet, where his old injury limits the enemies he can fight. The Sword Maiden arranges for Shen Ye to become his student, hoping Shen Ye’s unconventional temperament will counterbalance his seriousness and rigidity. Xu Xingke allows Shen Ye to address him as either “Old Xu” or “teacher” 174 255 428.
Appearance
Xu Xingke initially looks like a weathered, dispirited middle-aged man. Once his curse breaks, he appears to be in his twenties, with a sharp, openly murderous bearing 430.
- Preferred clothing: A neatly pressed leather jacket, jeans, and black leather shoes 421.
- Signature habit: Frequently carries or smokes a cigarette, including during battles and negotiations 215 291 392.
- After the curse breaks: His Card Book’s cover becomes smooth and silvery white instead of black 430.
Personality
Xu Xingke is serious, competitive, and methodical about eliminating threats. He dislikes losing and treats unfinished retaliation as a source of future danger. After forcing the Archaeological Association to withdraw from government agencies, he explains that he concealed his intention to kill those responsible so they would not scatter and waste his time 191.
His severity has a stated moral boundary: he refuses to kill innocent people merely because they might become dangerous later. He praises Shen Ye for sparing Hera on that basis. He also rejects divine “guidance” that asks humans to surrender their souls, independent judgment, and responsibility for their crimes 530 663.
As a teacher, he is protective without demanding control over every decision. He defends Shen Ye against powerful factions, safeguards his financial interests, and explains practical ways to use skills. When Shen Ye considers entering the Immortal Kingdom’s affairs, Xu Xingke warns him of the danger but leaves the decision to him 268 272 383.
His intimidating manner coexists with dry humor and ordinary boundaries. He tells a would-be conqueror that surviving their first fight will earn him a second fight—not permission to proceed. When drinking with Shen Ye, he reserves the beer for himself because his student is underage 175 215.
Abilities & Skills
Immortal Barrier Dharma Form
Xu Xingke’s Dharma Form manifests as an immense city wall, sometimes containing nebulae, galaxies, and countless stars 261 382.
- Immortal Barrier: All Spirits Guard the Beacon: Draws power from broken worlds and bestows it upon humans certified by the Tower of Tarot 261.
- Immortal Barrier: Master of This Age: An art he confirms having cast in the past. During the Great Tomb crisis, its deployment accompanies his departure to assist Shen Ye 261.
- Offensive use: Delivers ranged punches with the phantom city wall unfolded behind him 382.
- Defensive use: Uses the wall against Sarich’s bombardment and turns incoming rays into stone strips 602.
- The Other Shore: His Dharma Form is recognized there as an Eerie Shadow, an uncanny-side power. It does not immediately make him dominant; he still needs local uncanny power and Sequence advancement 633 645 647.
Serious Person
His Serious Person trait brings a person directly before its user when their name is spoken 392 533.
- Shen Ye temporarily borrows the trait and summons Xu Xingke from thousands of miles away 533.
- A false name produces no response, allowing Xu Xingke to detect the White-Haired Elder’s lie 576.
- When he tries calling several intended targets and nothing happens, he subsequently learns they are already dead 402.
Grant Death
Grant Death is Xu Xingke’s unique Law Tree, classified as basic, public-type, Human Race-exclusive, and eternal 598.
- Every all-out strike has a 1% chance of instantly killing the enemy, regardless of identity or level 598.
- The displayed percentage belongs to the law’s basic form 598.
- Awakens during his battle with Sarich, whom he kills after deploying Sacrifice and True Dragon 602.
Tarot Card Arts
Xu Xingke uses Cards for combat, transport, communication, investigation, and cultivation support 370 392 513.
- Summoning: Deploys shield-bearing Grand Knights, spear formations, a giant, an Emperor Species Cosmic Insect, and a mummy 370.
- Teleportation: Sends people and Cards across great distances. A failed attempt to reach Death Planet is sufficiently unusual to alarm his companions 494 513.
- Investigation: Uses Mirror River’s Deep Currents to examine the circumstances behind a trait’s formation 517.
- Recording: Consults a battle record Card to identify the Sword Maiden and Xiao Mengyu’s Secret Sword, Painting Shadows 561.
- Ability combination: Uses The Fool’s Sigh to gather three people’s special abilities into one recipient 392.
- Limits: His summoned creatures can be destroyed by sufficiently powerful enemies, as demonstrated by the monster disguised as a Dao Palace disciple 370.
Close Combat and Movement
Xu Xingke fights barehanded or with boxing gloves and gauntlets, combining punches, kicks, movement techniques, and summoned support 215 262 600.
- Scattered Stars: Leaves opponents targeting light and shadow from seven seconds earlier. He uses it as a targeted counter to the Emperor Species’ Fate’s End Banner 262.
- Petrification: Turns Zhao Tu and Security Bureau personnel to stone 191.
- Punishment arts: Calls forth a cauldron of boiling oil with Cauldron Boiling, followed by Pit Him 576.
- Divine Shield—Thousand-Mile Rampart: Manifests a vast city-wall shield that turns enemy spells back. Requires eternal power, which Shen Ye temporarily supplies through the Eternal Brain’s Source Power 576.
Perception and Instruction
Xu Xingke can perceive manifestations of names and traits and recognize suspicious emotional or spiritual signatures 268 370.
- Identifies Shen Ye’s conspicuous trait manifestation and confirms when it has been hidden 268.
- Recognizes that the apparent Dao Palace disciple’s immense malice is inconsistent with his supposed age and identity 370.
- Teaches Shen Ye that skills activate according to fixed conditions, demonstrating that Beidong Divine Fist can be prepared with an ally before fighting an enemy 268.
- Advocates real combat as the fastest way to deepen practical understanding 188.
Passive Skills and Sequence Arts
- Iron Lung: Prevents his lungs from being harmed by smoking; explicitly described as a one-of-a-kind skill 576.
- Iron Guts: Prevents intimidation-type traits from cowing his mind and spirit 576.
- Return-to-City Art: Opens a spatial passage so a being at the designated coordinates can return to the Church 645.
- God Is with You: A basic Godslayer Sequence blessing received alongside Shen Ye; its specific effects are not given in the supplied passage 645.
