The corrupted plant roots were like spirit snakes with minds of their own. They spread across the land outside Lighthouse City, winding around the Black Tide oddities charging toward it.
Those oddities in the Black Tide had indeed targeted Lighthouse City at first.
But after the corrupted roots obstructed them, even the oddities began to hesitate.
They seemed to have discovered something new, something that attracted them.
Was it the Corruption Tree itself?
Or was it something deeper...
Some of these Black Tide oddities were still charging toward Lighthouse, but others stayed where they were and began tearing at the corrupted roots, trying to find whatever was attracting them.
Those oddities that charged straight toward Lighthouse continued to be obstructed by the corrupted roots, throwing both sides into a chaotic struggle.
Even the ghost-type oddities used their ancient Yin Duo energy to become corporeal, biting and clawing at the corrupted roots before them.
The corrupted roots were alive. When attacked, they retaliated, piercing the oddities' bodies and absorbing their souls and nutrients.
The nutrients passed to the roots, allowing the Rotting Tree to keep growing.
The souls traveled through the roots and trunk to the Rotting Tree's crown, supplying energy to the Soul Torch.
The bloody slaughter was on full display here.
While Zion used artillery fire and energy to annihilate the Black Tide army, a bloody battle raged on Lighthouse's outskirts.
The slaughter continued until dawn, when the Red Moon receded.
Inside Lighthouse City.
A somewhat uneasy militia leader approached Zhou Bi, looking timid and hesitant to speak.
He had been pushed into coming by the others, because some matters needed to be discussed with Zhou Bi.
Honestly, he was not very good at this sort of discussion, because in his eyes, Zhou Bi was already a lord.
