Personality

Wang Shu is generally calm, courteous, and disciplined. He apologizes before examining Xu Le and handles him more gently than Bai Jing does. His composure persists during emergencies: when Li Shunliu faces imminent mutation, he immediately asks what Xu Le needs rather than disputing his qualifications. He abstains from alcohol and ordinarily drinks only water 8 44 48 49.

His loyalty to teammates can outweigh his responsibility to civilians. During the Black Cicada attack, he leaves Xu Le and the students to protect Gu Beichen, explicitly stating that Gu Beichen matters more to him. Nevertheless, he also regards protecting vulnerable people as a Night Watcher’s duty and returns to help Wang Man when she is being pressured to drink 32 50.

Despite his amiable manner, Wang Shu can be uncompromising and shrewd. He accepts Bai Jing’s order to silence a scavenger without questioning it, agrees to kill Li Shunliu if her pollution cannot be removed in time, and uses the wording of Xu Le’s contract to argue that assignments inside Lighthouse count as internal duties 45 48 49.

• Tests Xu Le’s claim about a hidden Oddity fragment by deliberately pointing to the wrong location; Xu Le’s correction prompts him to request Bai Jing’s mirror 9.
• Accepts Xu Le’s emergency treatment plan for Li Shunliu and commits to preventing her mutation if it fails 48.
• Knows Gu Beichen’s habits well enough to interpret his dismissive response as permission to escort Xu Le and Wang Man through the Night Watchers’ testing entrance 34.
