Background / History
Zhou Xue was born one year after Zhou Yong and Yun Yao’s wedding. Her father and the Righteous Qi Sect doted on her, but her childhood mischief included injuring spirit animals and plucking their feathers. She frequently sought her father’s protection when Yun Yao tried to punish her 24.
When Zhou Xue turned four, Yun Yao proposed sending her to Cloudmist Palace, where her maternal grandmother could educate her under stricter rules. Zhou Yong opposed sending her away and instead persuaded Li Dalong to teach her in the Forbidden Grounds of the Rear Mountain. Yun Yao accepted the arrangement because Zhou Xue would study during the day and return home each evening 24 25.
Initially reluctant to give up playing at home, Zhou Xue agreed after her parents encouraged her with the prospect of exploring the world. Li Dalong began with the Righteous Qi Art, explaining spiritual power and the patience, effort, and hardship cultivation required 26.
Her progress and improved behavior later encouraged Yun Yao to seek the same instruction for Zhou Tianlong. Li Dalong arranged for Zhou Xue to return to the sect and consult him once every ten days. Despite her initial reluctance to study with him, she was now unhappy to leave and tugged at his sleeve while asking whether he was sending her away 30 31.
Appearance
Zhou Xue inherits Yun Yao’s beauty and is described as having a beautiful face and graceful figure 24 39.
Personality
As a child, Zhou Xue is lively, restless, and clever enough to exploit her father’s indulgence. Li Dalong considers her mischievous rather than bad-hearted, attributing her antics to curiosity and excess energy. Under his instruction, she becomes more disciplined, sensible, and earnest about cultivation 24 26 30 38.
As an expedition leader, she reassures frightened disciples, makes quick tactical decisions, and puts herself between her juniors and danger. Her resolve persists when escape becomes impossible: cornered by Yan Zhan, she jumps into Misty Canyon rather than submit to capture. Nevertheless, the ordeal leaves her frightened and distressed, and she breaks into tears when Li Dalong rescues her 39 40 48.
Abilities & Skills
Righteous Qi Cultivation
Li Dalong teaches Zhou Xue the Righteous Qi Sect’s basic cultivation method, the Righteous Qi Art 26.
- Learns to cultivate and control spiritual power under his direct supervision 26 27.
- Continues seeking his guidance after returning to the sect 31 38.
- Receives improved spiritual circulation when Li Dalong repairs, clears, and widens her meridian passages during treatment. This improves energy conversion, release speed, and explosive force without a documented realm breakthrough 48.
Swordsmanship and Movement
Zhou Xue fights with a flying sword, sword techniques, and Sword Qi, combining attacks with agile evasive movements 39 40 48.
- Uses the Jade Phoenix Sword to hold back the Ironback Azure Bear while her fellow disciples retreat 39.
- Evades Yan Zhan’s attacks with movement techniques, but cannot overcome his superior combat strength 39 40.
- Controls her flying sword during her fall into Misty Canyon, expending large amounts of spiritual power without being able to fly within the mist 49.
- Cannot effectively pierce the defenses of the creature pursuing her in the canyon 48.
Expedition Leadership
Zhou Xue leads Golden Core and Foundation Establishment disciples on a sect mission into the Demon Beast Forest 38.
- Orders defensive formations, coordinates combined attacks, and directs retreats 39.
- Offers to hold off the bear while the others return to the sect for reinforcements 39.
- Organizes treatment and spiritual-power recovery after the battle 39.
- Avoids flying through the forest because of its dangerous flocks of flying demon beasts 38.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Jade Phoenix Sword — Supreme-grade spirit sword given to her by Li Dalong. Her strongest attack with it barely injures the Ironback Azure Bear 39.
- Sword Qi spirit sword — Emergency life-saving weapon condensed from Li Dalong’s Sword Qi. She expends it to kill the Ironback Azure Bear instantly 39.
- Storage Ring — Gift from Li Dalong with a capacity several times greater than rings used by other major sect masters. She stores the bear’s body inside it 39.
- Righteous Qi Art — Basic cultivation method supplied at the start of her training 26.
- Supreme-Grade Healing Pill — Given by Li Dalong after her rescue and used alongside his spiritual power to repair her injuries and damaged meridians 48.
Relationships
- Zhou Yong — Father and Righteous Qi Sect master. His indulgence enables her childhood mischief; he arranges her education and personally leads the search after her disappearance 24 40.
- Yun Yao — Mother and primary childhood disciplinarian. Proposes education at Cloudmist Palace, then agrees to local training with Li Dalong; is devastated by Zhou Xue’s disappearance 24 25 43.
- Li Dalong — Martial uncle, cultivation teacher, and rescuer, rather than a blood uncle. Supplies guidance and equipment, then saves her in Misty Canyon and treats her injuries 24 26 39 48.
- Zhou Tianlong — Younger brother. His solemn, obedient temperament contrasts with her childhood restlessness; he later also studies under Li Dalong 30 31.
- Cloudmist Palace’s palace master — Maternal grandmother. Yun Yao originally intends to place Zhou Xue under her care 24.
- Yan Zhan / Flame Tiger — Crimson Flame Tiger Tribe young master who attempts to capture her and pursues her to Misty Canyon. Li Dalong later kills him 39 40 46.
- Zhang Yang and Liu Xiaobo — The two disciples who escape the disastrous expedition and report her disappearance to Zhou Yong 40.
