Chapter 15

After what they had gone through, the Uzumaki clansmen were utterly lost.

"Come with me first."

Liu Feng spoke to the Uzumaki clansmen, then took Kushina's hand and headed toward the Uchiha Clan Compound.

Kushina looked up at Liu Feng. She knew that he had saved them, and so did the other Uzumaki clansmen, so none of them resisted following him.

Chapter 15

Liu Feng had Uchiha No settle the Uzumaki clansmen, then carried the sleeping Kushina Uzumaki home first.

Having gone nearly a full day and night without rest, Kushina had fallen asleep while walking once she knew they were safe. Liu Feng had no choice but to carry her.

"Liu Feng."

The moment he returned home, Liu Feng discovered that Mikoto was there as well.

"What have you been doing these past few days? You've been acting so mysterious, and so has my father." Mikoto asked Liu Feng with a hint of resentment.

Mikoto had come to Liu Feng's house to clean. Well, she did that often.

"Who is this little girl?"

Her gaze shifted slightly as Mikoto looked at Kushina in Liu Feng's arms. Though her tone sounded calm, Liu Feng could still hear a trace of displeasure.

"It's complicated, but you can tell from her hair that she's from the Uzumaki clan."

Liu Feng first went into his room and laid Kushina down. Just as he was about to explain everything to Mikoto, Kushina grabbed onto him and refused to let go.

"She's holding on pretty tightly."

Liu Feng was a little helpless. Kushina was like someone clinging desperately to a lifesaving straw, gripping him tightly.

Mikoto followed him into his room at that point. She still had plenty of questions, since Liu Feng had not explained things clearly before.

Unable to break free from Kushina's tight grip, Liu Feng simply gave up. Forcing himself free might hurt her.

Uzumaki Akira had entrusted his daughter to him. He could not let her get hurt. Besides, seeing how adorable she was, Liu Feng could not bring himself to hurt her.

"Uncle Cloud and I went out earlier because of the Uzumaki clan. The Uzumaki clan faced the danger of extermination. If not for me, they probably would have been wiped out by now. That's why I went to save them."

Liu Feng explained it to Mikoto, who had been eager to know.

"So that's what happened. No wonder you didn't take me with you."

Mikoto understood why they had not brought her. Saving the Uzumaki clan was bound to be dangerous.

Meanwhile, an argument was erupting in the Hokage Building in Konoha.

"Lord Hokage, shouldn't you give our Uzumaki clan an explanation for this?" Uzumaki Akira angrily questioned Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Earlier, Uzumaki Akira had asked Uchiha Cloud to control the captured Root Organization ninja and make him reveal things he should not have said.

"Uzumaki Clan Head, don't be hasty. The testimony of one person alone cannot prove that Danzo targeted the Uzumaki clan. The Uzumaki clan is Konoha's ally. Danzo would never attack an ally."

After taking a puff of smoke, Hiruzen Sarutobi spoke to Uzumaki Akira.

"I believe someone may be trying to sow discord. I hope the Uzumaki Clan Head can distinguish right from wrong."

As Hiruzen Sarutobi spoke, he glanced at Uchiha Cloud, his eyes carrying a sharp edge.

Hiruzen Sarutobi was not yet the old man he would become. In his prime, he still possessed the bearing of a formidable shinobi.

That piercing gaze made even Uchiha Cloud's scalp tingle, but he was not afraid.

At most, Hiruzen Sarutobi could try to intimidate him with a look. Actually making a move was impossible. If Hiruzen Sarutobi truly attacked him, it would be no different from declaring war on the Uchiha.

The militant factions of the major Ninja Villages were on the rise. The Ninja World had been peaceful for too long, and anyone with half a brain could see that the Second Shinobi World War was on the verge of breaking out.

Starting a conflict with the Uchiha at a time like this—wasn't that tantamount to destroying Konoha?

"Lord Hokage, do you think I'm incapable of telling right from wrong?"

Uzumaki Akira was growing increasingly furious.

Just as he was about to lose his temper, Uchiha Cloud suddenly signaled to him. Losing his temper with Hiruzen Sarutobi in Konoha would bring him no benefits.

"Uzumaki Clan Head, I know you're in a bad mood right now. How about this? Hand the person you have over to me. I will definitely investigate this thoroughly."

Hiruzen Sarutobi assured Uzumaki Akira.

"Also, since the Uzumaki clan has suffered such a calamity, why not live in Konoha from now on? Konoha will absolutely treat the Uzumaki clan as one of our own and offer our full support."

Uzumaki Akira was furious. He was certain that if he handed over the witness in his custody to Hiruzen Sarutobi, the matter would ultimately be swept under the rug.

"I'll accept on the Uzumaki Clan Head's behalf. Uzumaki Clan Head, shouldn't you thank Lord Hokage?"

Uchiha Cloud spoke just as Uzumaki Akira was about to erupt, suppressing the anger in his heart.

In the end, Uzumaki Akira chose to show Uchiha Cloud some respect. Besides, he knew that continuing to make trouble would not accomplish anything.

Afterward, he left the Hokage Building with Uchiha Cloud.

"Uzumaki Clan Head, you were a little impulsive earlier. The Third Hokage has already made it clear that he intends to protect Danzo. If you keep pushing this, the Uzumaki clan won't be able to remain in Konoha."

Uchiha Cloud said to Uzumaki Akira.

At that moment, Uzumaki Akira wanted to stubbornly say, So what if we leave Konoha? But when he considered the Uzumaki clan's current situation, leaving Konoha would be far too dangerous.

"For now, the Uzumaki Clan Head should focus on gaining a foothold in Konoha. Don't think about revenge yet."

That was Uchiha Cloud's advice to Uzumaki Akira. With the Uzumaki clan as it was now, how could they possibly contend with Danzo?

"I understand. Konoha has changed too."

Uzumaki Akira could not help saying bitterly. In truth, expecting Hiruzen Sarutobi to uphold justice for him had been nothing but wishful thinking.

Although the Uzumaki clan and Konoha were allies, they were still outsiders. How could outsiders ever compare to their own people?
