Background

Kushina was the only daughter of Uzumaki Akira, the Uzumaki clan head. At five years old, she fled the destruction of the Land of Whirlpools alongside the surviving clan members. Akira kept her at his side despite the tactical burden, refusing to entrust her safety to anyone else during the escape. 14

After Liu Feng’s ships carried the survivors to the Land of Fire, Akira handed Kushina to Liu Feng when further enemies approached. The clan was attacked again by Root operatives, leaving Kushina frightened and emotionally shaken; Liu Feng protected her from an attacker with Sharingan genjutsu. 14 15

Kushina became deeply attached to Liu Feng after the destruction of her home and clan. She fell asleep while walking to safety, clung to him after he carried her home, and increasingly treated the Uchiha compound as a refuge. 16 26

Her safety remained a political issue in Konoha. Kumogakure ninja attempted to abduct her, but Liu Feng killed the attackers after secretly guarding her for seven days. Akira later revealed that Danzō had sought to recruit Kushina into Root, while Hiruzen had considered making her a Nine-Tails jinchūriki; Akira rejected both possibilities. 24 29 30

Personality

Kushina began as a frightened, silent child overwhelmed by the clan massacre and repeated attacks. Her fear gradually gave way to the fierce temper and stubbornness associated with her “Bloody Red Pepper” nickname. 15 30

She is impulsive, competitive, and easily provoked, particularly when Liu Feng’s attention is directed toward other women. Her confidence can become arrogance, as shown when Tsunade defeated her decisively and forced her to train harder. 101 134

Despite her usual recklessness, Kushina can remain level-headed in critical situations. She accepted command responsibilities during the war, ordered reconnaissance before attacking, withdrew her troops when Sage Mode was nearing its limit, and worried about casualties under her command. 151 154
