Background / History

Tsunade initially approached Uchiha Liu Feng because Nawaki considered him a friend. Unlike many in Konoha, she stated that she held no inherent prejudice against the Uchiha clan, though she regarded Liu Feng as unusually courteous for one of its members. 22

During the Second Shinobi World War, she oversaw Konoha’s medical ninja in the rear, treating a constant flow of wounded and countering Chiyo’s poison. She asked Liu Feng to protect Nawaki on the battlefield and accepted him as a medical-ninjutsu student after recognizing his exceptional chakra control. 31

Her faith in Konoha’s leadership deteriorated after Liu Feng raised doubts about the Senju clan’s unexplained decline. Tsunade questioned Hiruzen Sarutobi directly, but his denials did not resolve her suspicions. 46 When Nawaki was nearly killed and lost his right arm, she traced the attack to Root-connected ninja; Hiruzen concealed Danzo’s involvement in the name of village stability. 52 53 54

After the war, Tsunade attacked Root to kill Danzo. She fought through Root operatives, used her slug summon and Rasengan, and refused to retreat even when Hiruzen intervened. Liu Feng shielded her with Susanoo and destroyed the base, but Konoha placed responsibility for the destruction on Tsunade and declared her a rogue ninja. 64 65 66

She left Konoha rather than remain with the Uchiha clan, instructing Nawaki to stay under Uchiha protection. She borrowed money from Liu Feng before departing, beginning a recurring pattern of debt. 66 She later settled in Kirigakure, handled Mizukage affairs for payment, and entered a romantic relationship with Liu Feng. 77 85

Personality

Tsunade is forthright, proud, and quick to anger when her family or comrades are threatened. Her pursuit of Danzo was driven by Nawaki’s mutilation, while her attack on Orochimaru came from outrage at his use of Impure World Reincarnation on Hashirama and Tobirama. 64 157

Despite her temper, she can restrain herself for a larger cause. She postponed confronting Konoha’s leadership during wartime because she could not bear to endanger the village founded by Hashirama. 46 By the time Kirigakure considered destroying Konoha, however, she regarded the village only as a memory and did not oppose its fall. 159
