Shaluba's death caused barely a ripple.
Roger was still hunting down the Black Bat Tribe's Lowgods.
Hagson and Beverly were still fighting Black Bat.
Everyone else fought their own battles.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Three more illusory blades instantly killed three Lowgods.
In less than a minute, an astonishing fifteen Lowgods on the Black Bat Tribe's side had died at Roger's hands!
The other Lowgods had long since been scared witless. They fled the battlefield for their lives, heading deep into the wilderness.
They had no choice.
Roger's performance was too terrifying.
He was fast, and his soul attacks were outrageously powerful.
Once he targeted them, there was no escape.
He dodged their counterattacks with ease.
If they did not flee now, Roger could easily slaughter them all by himself!
Hiss!
He unleashed an illusory soul blade, instantly killing the Lowgod still locked in combat with Allen.
Roger turned and joined another battle.
"Hagson, I'll help you!"
After that round of slaughter,
Roger had gained a preliminary understanding of his own strength.
Combined with his observations of the battlefield,
he now had a good grasp of Hagson's, Beverly's, and Black Bat's strength.
Black Bat could only be considered a fairly ordinary special lifeform.
Judging by his attacks, he must have comprehended the dark laws.
His accomplishments in those laws were clearly unremarkable, however. He had fully comprehended three profound mysteries at most, and his repertoire of attacks was limited.
What truly made Black Bat troublesome was the strange black light he could unleash.
Whenever it latched onto Hagson or Beverly, their expressions changed drastically. They were clearly suffering tremendous pain in their souls.
Roger, who had studied souls extensively, recognized at a glance that this was a rather unusual soul-based ability.
Perhaps it was Black Bat's special ability.
But Roger now had no fear whatsoever of special abilities like this.
"Haha, Roger, you're incredible! Let's kill him together!"
Hagson, who had been keeping an eye on the battlefield, saw how formidable Roger was, easily taking care of the Black Bat Tribe's Lowgods single-handedly.
He was immediately overjoyed.
"Hmph! You've gotten lucky, Hagson, finding such a powerful ally. I won't be keeping you company any longer!"
Black Bat instantly unleashed two attacks of black light. At the same time, black light flared around his body, and his speed surged.
"He's trying to escape!"
"Don't worry. He won't get away!"
Roger's cold voice rang out as his speed abruptly increased and he chased after Black Bat.
Meanwhile, Hagson and Beverly also pushed their speed to the limit, unleashing various ranged attacks to hinder him.
Black Bat's speed was immediately hampered considerably.
Roger closed to within three hundred meters in an instant.
"Die!"
Roger's gaze turned icy, and a thick, gray, semitransparent javelin shot out instantly.
The soul power at its tip slowly rotated.
This was the ultimate soul attack Roger had developed: Soul Annihilation Blade!
Hiss!
The soul attack was incredibly fast.
Black Bat had only just reacted when it struck him.
"Hmph! You actually dared use a soul attack on me."
Even as the rotating, semitransparent javelin entered his body, Black Bat remained unconcerned.
As special lifeforms of the black bat race, they had a natural affinity for the dark laws.
The innate energy within their soul oceans could not only unleash black-light attacks, but also effectively resist soul attacks.
Black Bat thought he could once again block this attack easily with his innate energy and his comprehension of the laws.
But-
The semitransparent, illusory javelin whirled with a howl, easily piercing his soul defenses and blasting into his soul ocean.
Black Bat knew he was finished!
And sure enough,
unwilling to accept his fate, Black Bat desperately gathered all his black innate energy around his soul core, hoping to block it.
But the furiously rotating spearhead effortlessly shredded that black energy, then easily pierced the souls of both Black Bat's dark divine clone and his original body.
Thud!
Black Bat's enormous body, now devoid of all signs of life, fell limply.
It kicked up a great cloud of dust.
"W-w-what... Black Bat died just like that?"
Hagson had thought Black Bat would escape this time and had been ready to give up the pursuit.
But the reversal came too quickly.
All he saw was Roger launch an illusory javelin, and Black Bat was instantly killed.
"Aah!!!"
The Black Bat Tribe's other Midgod saw his leader die in battle and desperately tried to break away from Croya.
But Croya was a water-element Midgod. Though somewhat lacking in attack power, Croya was quite capable of trapping opponents.
No matter how desperately the enemy struggled, he could not escape.
Seeing this, Roger burst forward, reached a spot not far from the Midgod, and unleashed another Soul Annihilation Blade.
He killed him instantly on the spot!
Thud!
As the corpse fell,
the entire battlefield suddenly went silent.
Everyone had initially assumed that Roger, a newly advanced Midgod, would be fairly ordinary in strength.
It would have been enough if he could help their side hold off the Black Bat Tribe's Lowgods.
But none of them had expected
that the one to end this war would be Roger, who had become a Midgod less than a year ago.
"Roger... my friend, that was impressive!"
As expected of a veteran Midgod with extensive combat experience, Hagson quickly accepted reality.
He was the first to fly over and offer his congratulations.
"Lord Roger, your strength is incredible!"
Beverly and Croya also flew over, instinctively addressing Roger as "Lord."
This was the Netherworld.
Strength reigned supreme!
"Hagson, you flatter me. Let's clean up the battlefield first. We can discuss everything else afterward."
Roger smiled.
"Roger is right. The Black Bat Tribe tried to gain an advantage, only to suffer a heavy loss. With so many of them left dead here, the spoils will be considerable. Once we've cleaned up the battlefield, we can take over the Black Bat Tribe's territory as well."
Hagson agreed.
"According to our tribe's rules, the spoils from a solo kill belong to the killer. For a joint kill, they're divided according to each person's contribution."
Hagson came to Black Bat's corpse. "Although Beverly and I fought Black Bat for quite a while beforehand, Roger was the one who actually killed him, entirely on his own. I propose that all the spoils from Black Bat go to Roger. What do you think, Beverly?"
"I agree," Beverly quickly chimed in.
The sight of Roger coldly killing the Black Bat Tribe's members in an instant was still vivid in his mind.
Beverly was far weaker than Black Bat and could never withstand a single blow from Roger.
Besides, if Roger had not unleashed his strength, Black Bat would most likely have escaped.
If someone that dangerous got away, he would pose a threat to all of them. It was better that he was dead.
As for the spoils, getting a Soul Gold Bead or two from Roger now and then would already be excellent.
"Then thank you, Hagson and Beverly." Roger did not decline. Black Bat clearly belonged to an extraordinary race, and his strength was respectable among Midgods. Perhaps there would be some unexpected gains.
With a wave of his hand, Roger collected Black Bat's corpse along with his Interspatial Ring. Looking at the bodies of the Black Bat Tribe's other fallen deities nearby, he said, "As for the other spoils, Hagson, you can divide them as you see fit."
Although Roger had contributed greatly to this war, he could not take all the benefits for himself.
He had taken the lion's share; he had to leave something for the others.
