Background / History
Alley Attack
Yuki is a first-year student who works part-time. Shortly after collecting her wages, five armed thugs corner her in an alley and attempt to steal money she needs for the following month’s living expenses. She recognizes her classmate Yagami Jue when he intervenes and urges him to flee, believing he cannot survive against five armed adults 1.
Yagami defeats the attackers and destroys a cursed spirit lurking behind her. Although Yuki cannot see the spirit, she feels its chilling presence. When she thanks him, he rejects the role of a selfless rescuer and warns that she must become stronger because nobody can protect her forever 2 3.
Decision to Train
Yuki initially tries to repay Yagami with a homemade lunch and an umbrella. He rejects both gestures and tells her to learn to fight rather than seek his favor. Hurt but increasingly defiant, she enrolls in a strict mixed martial arts dojo and promises to make him take back his dismissal of her as a “useless burden” 4 5 8.
Yagami then challenges her to enter an abandoned slaughterhouse at ten that night. Unknown to her, he intends to use her presence as bait for the Grade 1 cursed spirit gestating there. She enters with a borrowed baseball bat, but Livestock Curses break the weapon and cut her neck. Yagami intervenes before they kill her and subsequently defeats Butcher 8 10 11 12.
Afterward, he acknowledges that she did not run away. His limited approval causes her to break down and cling to his leg, releasing the fear and frustration of the preceding days 12.
Yagami’s Disciple
Yuki continues conditioning under Yagami’s direction, progressing from distance running to weighted exercises and painful striking drills. Junpei Yoshino joins her training, and both are ordered to pound rocks into powder with their bare fists. Yuki questions whether this will break their bones but begins anyway, determined to stop being a burden and stand in Yagami’s world 13 16 22 35.
She witnesses confrontations with Kyoto students and Jujutsu Headquarters personnel, openly worrying about how many enemies her teacher has made. After Yagami defeats the headquarters’ sealing formation, he assigns her to collect the broken Black Rope 36 37 40.
Kyoto Sister-School Goodwill Event
Yuki accompanies Yagami and Junpei to the Goodwill Event. While Yagami separates from the group to pursue a valuable cursed object, she and Junpei practice against weaker curses 41 42.
At the southeastern lake, Mahito leaves Junpei gravely wounded and unconscious. Bloodied and holding a broken iron hammer, Yuki shields him with her arms and refuses to let Mahito touch him. She throws a rock at Mahito when he threatens to transform her, but it is deflected; Yagami arrives before Idle Transfiguration reaches her 44.
Yuki apologizes for failing to protect Junpei. Yagami gives her expensive healing ointment and assures her that Junpei is still alive. She subsequently resumes training and practices footwork with him 45 47.
Appearance
- Face and complexion: A delicate, notably pretty face, snow-white skin, and large eyes. Classmates describe her as the prettiest girl in class 1 2 4.
- Build: Initially petite and frail; sustained training gives her an increasingly toned figure 3 13 35.
- Hair: Wears her hair in a high ponytail during training 13 47.
- Clothing: Wears a school uniform at Sugisawa and inexpensive or heavily washed tracksuits for exercise. Later appears in a pink athletic tank top 4 10 13 47.
Personality
Yuki initially reacts to danger with trembling, tears, and hesitation, but remains concerned for others even while threatened herself: she warns Yagami to escape the armed thugs rather than asking him to fight for her. She is grateful for his rescue and repeatedly attempts to thank him despite his rejection 1 3 4 5.
Her defining change is growing stubbornness. She enters the slaughterhouse despite her fear, completes exhausting training, and continues striking rocks despite the risk of injury. Yagami’s approval matters deeply to her, and she recognizes that seeking his praise has begun to overshadow her original goal of survival 8 10 16 22 35.
Her loyalty becomes especially clear when she protects the unconscious Junpei from Mahito. Although she remains intimidated by Yagami, she regards him as dependable despite his vicious tongue, greed, and dangerous behavior 41 44 47.
