Distortion
This is one of the few Sequence 5 Beyonder Item in the Argel Manor, crafted using the Beyonder Characteristic of the Sequence 5 Reaper from the Red Priest Pathway.
This Beyonder Item has a very simple ability: pure attack. It has no other abilities besides attacking.
The Deadly Crossbow has two states. The current state is that of an ordinary hand crossbow, capable of firing deadly bolts with an accuracy of up to twenty meters. It possesses powerful attack capabilities, and its attack power doubles when it hits an opponent's weak point.
The second state is the bow state, which transforms from a hand crossbow into a red bow that can fire Blood Red flaming arrows. It requires charging and is suitable for ranged attacks; hitting any part of the body is equivalent to hitting a weak point.
The negative effects aren't too severe; it's just that after each use, you feel a burning pain that lasts for ten minutes. There's no real harm, just pain.
Kronos just shot Jason in the chest with a crossbow bolt. This spot wasn't Jason's weak point, so it didn't break through his defenses; it just sent him flying.
However, this powerful attack still broke at least three of Jason's ribs.
Such a minor injury wouldn't have much of an impact on Jason after his Devil Transformation, but Jason was still lying on the ground struggling, as if he were about to die.
Kronos knew this was a trap, and he wasn't about to fall into it. Without a word, he raised his crossbow and fired at Jason.
Another arrow struck Jason in the abdomen. There were no ribs to protect him there, and although it wasn't Jason's weak point, the arrow still managed to penetrate his defenses and enter the abdomen.
Jason had originally intended to keep up the act, but when he saw that Kronos had no intention of getting any closer and was instead continuing to fire his crossbow, he knew he couldn't keep up the act any longer. Otherwise, two more crossbow shots and he'd be done for.
With a flick of his right hand, eight or nine Sulfur Fireball shot towards Kronos.
Facing these Sulfur Fireball, Kronos was not afraid at all. He switched the crossbow to his left hand, and then drew the Bright Light Sword with his right hand, unleashing a Blade Light Storm.
The density of the Blade Light Storm is significantly higher than that of the Sulfur Fireball. When the two skills collide, although the attack power of a single Sulfur Fireball should be greater than that of a single Blade Storm, it's not a one-on-one fight, but rather eight or nine fireballs against hundreds of Blade Storms.
Although the blade's light failed to penetrate the fireballs' attack range and strike Jason, it also prevented any fireballs from reaching Kronos.
Having gotten up from the ground, Jason saw that his fireballs had failed, so he continued his attack. A Sword of Lava appeared, and Jason gripped it, swinging it at Kronos.
Having already been cleaved away once before, Kronos had naturally learned his lesson and knew he couldn't confront it head-on again. So he quickly jumped back a step, avoiding the attack range of the Sword of Lava.
As he jumped, Kronos gripped the crossbow again with his right hand and fired two arrows at Jason.
Having suffered from that arrow before, he naturally tried his best to avoid it.
However, Kronos's aim was really good, and the two arrows were positioned very cleverly. Jason tried his best but only managed to dodge one arrow; he couldn't dodge both.
The arrow struck Jason squarely in the shoulder, piercing right through and leaving Jason with a penetrating wound.
At this point, Jason had no longer considered tearing Kronos apart; instead, he began preparing to escape.
This is Backlund, after all. Even if he's from the Church of the Eternal Blazing Sun, it won't necessarily cause any harm. But as a Devil, once he reveals any trace of his identity, he's doomed.
Clearly, he couldn't defeat Kronos in a short time. If he continued to entangle himself with him, it would only create more trouble and attract the attention of church personnel. If that happened, he really wouldn't be able to escape.
With that in mind, Jason finally decided to run away.
In Kronos's eyes, Jason's Devil Transformation quickly subsided. He had initially thought Jason's Devil Transformation time had come, so he prepared to strike while he was still weakened and decisively fired another arrow.
But as soon as the Devil Transformation was lifted, Jason's body transformed into a phantom, viscous black liquid, and the arrow from the Deadly Crossbow pierced through his body, striking the wall behind him.
Upon seeing this, Kronos knew that he was preparing to flee.
The Desire Incarnation is very effective in avoiding damage, concealing its whereabouts, and influencing enemies. Its only drawback is that its attack power is somewhat lacking.
Although this is a skill exclusive to the Sequence 5 Desire Apostle, Jason had been using Devil Transformation as his first choice during the fight, so using this skill now could only mean he was preparing to run away.
He rushed towards the wall and squeezed into a Small Hole in the Washroom wall.
Kronos had anticipated this, so he raised his left hand, which was wearing a black Bracer.
This is the second trump card that Kronos prepared: the Chaos Bracelet, Sequence 5.
Corresponding to the Mentor of Disorder of Sequence 5 of the Black Emperor Pathway, its main abilities correspond to the two abilities of the Mentor of Disorder: Chaos and Distortion.
Kronos unleashed his Distortion spell on the Desire Incarnation that was still trying to drill into the Small Hole.
This ability is a core capability of the Black Emperor Pathway, developed to the level of Sequence 5. In addition to Distortion the target's language, actions, and intentions, it can also Distortion the concepts of oneself and the target.
Jason could roughly guess Kronos's current thoughts. Kronos didn't have overwhelming strength; on the contrary, he was the one being overwhelmed most of the time. So, Jason was running away now simply to avoid this trouble.
Therefore, Jason definitely wanted to run outside the Villa so that he could escape more easily, and this was exactly what Kronos wanted to prevent.
So he activated his Distortion skill, directly Distortion Jason's intentions.
Distortion intentions doesn't mean changing one's thoughts, but rather altering one's judgment of certain things to a certain extent, thereby leading one to make a decision that is advantageous to oneself.
That's exactly what Kronos is doing now; he's Distortion Jason's judgment of things.
Jason's initial plan was indeed to reach the outside of the Villa through the Small Hole and escape quickly, so that Kronos wouldn't dare to pursue him so recklessly.
He concluded that Kronos was not from the church or the government, otherwise he wouldn't have come alone to Ambush him.
As long as one's origins don't come from either of these two forces, one must remain discreet in Backlund. The affairs of Beyonder cannot be revealed to the ordinary world. Anyone who violates this unspoken Rules will be Punishment.
Therefore, as long as Jason can safely escape this Villa, no matter where he runs, Kronos will no longer dare to chase after him openly with his crossbow and War Blade.
However, Kronos's Distortion successfully affected him, and Jason's thoughts changed.
After a moment's thought, Jason rejected his initial idea, because he himself was Devil, and if the church and the authorities found out, the pursuit he would face would be even more intense.
Therefore, the best approach is to find a safe place to hide, avoid causing too much of a stir, and prevent being discovered by those Ambush. This is the optimal solution.
There is a place in his Villa that can meet this requirement, which is the Basement he converted himself.
He was confident that the Basement was ingeniously designed, and that it would be difficult to find the entrance without a long period of searching.
The Basement could be safely reached through the passage in the wall, so after Kronos activated the Distortion, Jason's decision changed from running away after leaving the Villa to hiding in the modified Basement.
After Jason squeezed through the Small Hole, he began heading towards the Basement.
The moment I moved, I felt a strange burning sensation; this was Kronos's plan.
He poured all the Purification Potions into the passage, which was now filled with Purification power. So, as soon as Jason entered in his form as the embodiment of Desire Incarnation, he began to experience the Purification power.
If he were in a normal or Devil Transformation state, the pain might be less, but the Desire Incarnation is different. This collection of desires, which seems to be the most wicked and shameful desires in people's hearts, is severely restrained by the power of Purification.
Although he was restrained and in pain, Jason could still endure it, so he quickly moved towards the Basement.
While this passage is well-suited for the movement of Desire Incarnation, it is still slightly slower than running on two legs.
After activating his skill, Kronos took off running towards the Basement, the stairs doing nothing to slow him down as he leaped straight down.
During the earlier preparation phase, Kronos had even opened the entrance to that specially made Basement.
The entrance was indeed very hidden, but it could not be concealed under the observation of the Eye of Time. Therefore, after deciding to use this Basement to plot against Jason, the Basement was the most elaborately furnished.
Jason had only covered two-thirds of the distance when Kronos entered the Basement.
After Eyes of Mystery Prying to pinpoint Jason's location, Kronos reached out and pulled the Basement Gate shut, intending to make it appear as if no one had been there.
The Basement wasn't very big, so Jason only left one opening. Kronos hid in a small, blind spot as planned, a position Jason wouldn't see immediately after emerging from the Small Hole. Once hidden, Kronos took out his Deadly Crossbow.
With Spirituality, the bow and crossbow switched from hand crossbow to a blood-red longbow. Kronos held the bow with his left hand and pulled the string with his right. With a determined effort, he drew the bow, and a blood-red arrow automatically appeared on it.
