Ch. 61You Be the Guild Master

Blanc accompanied Makarov to a meeting of the legal guild masters, where Makarov revealed that he planned for Blanc to become Fairy Tail's fourth Guild Master. The chapter ended with Blanc hearing the unexpected succession plan.

  • Blanc spoke with Mira at the guild while Levy learned that Natsu had taken the request to retrieve a book from Duke Everlue's Mansion.
  • Makarov announced that the client's reward for the request had risen from 200,000 J to 2,000,000 J.
  • Makarov told Blanc to prepare for a trip to the legal guild masters' meeting and took him there by magic train the next morning.
  • Blanc questioned Makarov about why he had brought him to the meeting, and Makarov admitted he wanted Blanc to prepare for the future.
  • Makarov told Blanc that he intended him to become Fairy Tail's fourth Guild Master.

Ch. 62Let me off

Blanc resisted Makarov’s attempt to make him Fairy Tail’s next Guild Master, arguing that the job would overwhelm him. Makarov postponed the decision but insisted Blanc attend a guild meeting to impress Blue Pegasus with his talent.

  • Blanc tried to climb out of the train window after Makarov asked him to become Guild Master, and Makarov and a train attendant pulled him back inside.
  • Blanc told Makarov he feared the guild’s trouble, complaints, and damage to his hair, while Makarov defended the role.
  • Makarov said Blanc was the best candidate because Gildarts had refused and the other possible successors were unsuitable or too young.
  • Blanc persuaded Makarov to postpone choosing a successor until Laxus, Mira, and Erza had time to mature.
  • Makarov dropped the succession discussion and demanded that Blanc attend the regular meeting to show off against Blue Pegasus’s talented newcomer.

Ch. 63The strongest team

At the guild masters’ meeting, Makarov proudly introduced Blanc and boasted about Fairy Tail until Mirajane’s letter revealed that Erza had formed a team with Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and Happy. Makarov panicked about the team’s potential for destruction and sent Blanc to keep them under control.

  • Makarov introduced Blanc to the other guild masters, who praised Blanc’s reputation and tried to recruit him for Blue Pegasus.
  • Goldmine warned Makarov about Fairy Tail’s habit of causing trouble, but Makarov brushed off the concern while boasting about Lucy.
  • A Magic Pigeon delivered Mirajane’s letter, which announced that Erza had teamed up with Natsu, Gray, Lucy, and Happy.
  • Makarov collapsed in terror when he realized the team could cause serious destruction.
  • Makarov grabbed Blanc and urgently ordered him to find the team and stop them from doing anything outrageous.

Ch. 64An Existence More Terrifying Than a Dark Guild

Blanc left the meeting venue and flew toward Oshibana Station while Gray learned that Eisenwald had trapped Fairy Tail there to stop them from protecting the guild masters in Clover Town. Erigor headed toward Clover Town with Lullaby, but he encountered Blanc over the Grand Canyon.

  • Makarov sent Blanc to find Mira and learn where the others were, but Blanc decided to wait for them at Oshibana Station.
  • Blanc used his Flight card to grow white wings and flew toward the station across the Grand Canyon.
  • Erza tried to break the Demon Wind Barrier surrounding Oshibana Station, but her attacks failed as Erigor escaped.
  • An Eisenwald member revealed that Erigor had taken Lullaby to kill the guild masters at Clover Town, and Gray froze him into an ice sculpture.
  • Erigor flew toward Clover Town with Lullaby, but Blanc approached from the opposite direction and greeted him.

Ch. 65A moment to shine

Lucy nearly used Virgo’s key to escape the Demon Wind Barrier, but Blanc arrived and dispelled it, carrying the unconscious Erigor. As the group headed to Clover Town with Lullaby as evidence, Blanc broke the bone flute and blamed its damage on the earlier fight.

  • Happy told Lucy that Virgo’s key could let Virgo dig beneath the Demon Wind Barrier, and Lucy prepared to summon her.
  • Blanc dispelled the barrier, arrived at Oshibana Station with the unconscious Erigor, and rescued the guild members from danger.
  • Blanc bound the defeated Eisenwald members with vines, and Erza decided the group should report to the Guild Master in Clover Town.
  • On the way, Blanc learned more about Eisenwald’s plan and suspected that Lullaby was a demon from the Book of Zeref.
  • Blanc broke Lullaby in half and told Lucy, Natsu, and Gray that it must have been damaged during their earlier fight.

Ch. 66I'll Make My Move

Siegrain manipulated Jose into targeting Fairy Tail by exploiting his jealousy over the guild’s growing fame and the possibility of Heartfilia funding it. Back in Magnolia, Blanc returned safely with his team, and he later chatted with Cana about her drinking habits.

  • Siegrain provoked Jose by pointing out Fairy Tail’s rising reputation and the threat of Heartfilia’s wealth, then secretly discussed a plan with him.
  • A woman in a kimono asked Siegrain whether Jose could handle the man, and Siegrain said he would make his own move after Jose tested him.
  • Blanc and the others returned safely from the Guild Master’s Regular Meeting, and Makarov nearly fainted after hearing their full report; the broken Lullaby was handed to the Magic Council.
  • Blanc asked Cana why she drank so much and explained that he preferred cola, recalling how he had tracked down a local shop that made it.
  • Cana rolled her eyes at Blanc and privately blamed him for driving her to drink.

Ch. 67The Frog Messenger

Blanc watched Natsu and Erza’s duel, expecting a Magic Council messenger to interrupt it over the Lullaby incident. The messenger instead ordered Blanc arrested and taken to the Council for questioning, leaving him stunned.

  • Cana asked Blanc to join her betting pool on Natsu and Erza’s duel, but he declined and asked about Gildarts.
  • Fairy Tail gathered to watch Erza and Natsu duel, and Happy bet his dried-fish earnings on Erza after she donned armor designed to resist fire.
  • Natsu and Erza began trading attacks while Blanc considered restraining Natsu to prevent trouble with the Magic Council.
  • A Frog Messenger arrived and read a notice about the guild’s alleged offenses connected to the Eisenwald attack and Lullaby.
  • The Frog Messenger ordered Blanc arrested and taken to the Magic Council for questioning, surprising Blanc.

Ch. 68Siegrain

Natsu and the Fairy Tail guild members questioned why the Magic Council had arrested Blanc, while Blanc suspected Siegrain had helped make him a scapegoat. Siegrain claimed the arrest was only a formality, and Blanc taunted him about Jellal before continuing toward the Council hearing.

  • Lisanna kept Natsu trapped in a bottle, while Gray, Erza, Mirajane, Loke, and Lucy questioned why Blanc had been arrested over the Eisenwald incident and Lullaby.
  • Blanc walked through the Magic Council under arrest and wondered why Jellal had targeted him instead of Erza.
  • Siegrain told Blanc that the Council needed a scapegoat to take responsibility for the threatened leak of Forbidden Magic and said he had spoken up for Fairy Tail.
  • Blanc hinted that Siegrain was involved in the arrest and asked whether he had heard anything about Jellal.
  • Siegrain claimed the Council was searching for Jellal, then vanished before Blanc could press him further.

Ch. 69Tower of Heaven

Blanc was acquitted by the Magic Council, then learned from Yamaji that new evidence about the R-System made Siegrain’s suspected plan to seize Etherion more credible. Yamaji warned that Siegrain might target Blanc, who left prepared to watch for his next move.

  • The Magic Council acquitted Blanc, ruling that his merits offset his offenses.
  • Yamaji met Blanc privately and told him Siegrain had begun acting as if he no longer needed to maintain his disguise.
  • Yamaji explained that the Council had found documents revealing the R-System required a magically powerful living vessel and immense energy to activate.
  • Yamaji said the new evidence strengthened Blanc’s suspicion that Siegrain planned to seize Etherion, and that monitoring its authorization could thwart him.
  • Yamaji warned Blanc that Siegrain might target him, and Blanc promised to stay alert while anticipating Jellal’s next move.

Ch. 70News of Phantom Lord

Council Member Belno warned Blanc that Phantom Lord was making suspicious moves against Fairy Tail, and Blanc agreed to help Gajeel if the guilds clashed. At the Magic Council prison, Blanc discovered Gildarts was being held after being swindled, then he headed back to Fairy Tail and ran into Mystogan.

  • Council Member Belno warned Blanc about Phantom Lord's unusual activity and asked him to look after Gajeel if a conflict broke out.
  • Blanc agreed to help Gajeel and wondered what had provoked Jose to target Fairy Tail this time.
  • Old Yamaji led Blanc to the prison, where Blanc discovered Gildarts had been arrested after being swindled and acting suspiciously.
  • Gildarts refused to leave before his detention ended and asked Blanc to keep his presence secret, especially from Cana.
  • Blanc walked toward the guild and greeted Mystogan, whom he encountered on the street.

Ch. 71I'm the Strongest

Blanc returned to Fairy Tail after routine questioning by the Magic Council and walked in just as Laxus declared himself the guild’s strongest. After the guild learned about the danger of S-Class Missions, Natsu silently focused on Laxus’s challenge.

  • Blanc met Mystogan, considered crossing to Edolas to reclaim the other half of his power, and headed back to Fairy Tail.
  • Laxus loudly claimed that no one, including Blanc, could take his place as the guild’s strongest, then froze when Blanc entered the hall.
  • After an awkward silence, Laxus left, and Mirajane and the guildmates welcomed Blanc back and heard that the Magic Council had only questioned him routinely.
  • Lisanna explained to Lucy that only S-Class Mages could take the dangerous missions kept on the second floor, and Erza warned Lucy against attempting one.
  • Natsu sat apart from the others and stared at the empty second floor while dwelling on Laxus’s words.

Ch. 72The missing S-Class Mission

After Natsu and Happy stole an S-Class Mission request, Blanc learned they had gone to Galuna Island and set out with Gray to bring them back. At Hargeon Port, they found that no ship crew would take them to the cursed island.

  • Mira discovered that an S-Class Mission request had gone missing, and Laxus claimed a winged cat had taken it.
  • Laxus mocked Natsu and Happy for setting out on an S-Class Mission, while Blanc suggested Laxus had stayed behind to alert the guild.
  • Mira identified the missing request as the mission to Galuna Island, and Makarov told Blanc to bring Natsu and the others back.
  • Blanc asked Gray to accompany him, then traveled with him to Hargeon Port to look for a way to reach the island.
  • Blanc and Gray found no sign of Natsu or Lucy, and the docked ship crews refused to sail to Galuna Island.

Ch. 73The Cursed Island

Blanc and Gray struggled to reach Galuna Island, then set out again after finding the route. Lucy explained the islanders’ curse to a sleepy Natsu and Happy, while the village chief’s request to destroy the purple moon remained ahead of them.

  • Blanc summoned a white wooden dragon, but he and Gray flew back to Hargeon after realizing they did not know where Galuna Island was.
  • Blanc and Gray obtained a nautical chart, stayed overnight in Hargeon, and left for Galuna Island before dawn.
  • Lucy told Natsu and Happy that the village chief said the purple moon had transformed the islanders into demons, and some never changed back.
  • Moka revealed that he had killed his son Bobo after the curse took his mind and asked the Wizards to destroy the moon for seven million J.
  • Natsu and Happy slept through Moka’s request, leaving Lucy to react alone to the villagers’ plea.

Ch. 74The Two Who Got Dragged Along

Lucy, Natsu, and Happy searched for clues to lift the curse on the island after taking an unauthorized S-Class mission. Blanc and Gray arrived to bring them back, and Happy and Lucy immediately tried to blame Natsu for bringing them along.

  • Lucy worried that taking an S-Class mission above their rank would earn them a terrible punishment, and Natsu and Happy shuddered at the thought.
  • A platinum dragon landed on the forest path carrying Blanc and Gray, frightening Lucy and briefly exciting Natsu.
  • Blanc demanded the request sheet and told them that Guild Master Makarov had ordered them hauled back.
  • Happy claimed Blanc that he had been kidnapped, and Lucy also insisted that Natsu had dragged her to the island against her will.
  • Happy exposed Lucy's real reason for coming: she wanted the Golden Celestial Spirit key.

Ch. 75Moon Temple

Blanc joined Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and Happy in investigating the curse on Moon Island after Lucy persuaded him to let them finish the mission. They found suspicious footprints and a hollow space beneath the temple floor, which Natsu broke open, sending himself, Lucy, and Gray tumbling underground.

  • Gray caught Natsu after Blanc bound him in vines for taking an S-class mission without permission.
  • Lucy stood up for the villagers and persuaded Blanc to let the group continue the mission.
  • Blanc suggested investigating the temple, where Lucy found footprints and moon carvings.
  • Blanc discovered a hollow space beneath the temple floor and called the others over.
  • Natsu smashed the floor, and he, Lucy, and Gray fell into the depths while Lucy called for Happy.

Ch. 76Moon Drop

Blanc and the others discovered Deliora sealed in ice beneath the island, and Gray revealed that the demon had destroyed his hometown and that his teacher, Ur, had sealed it at the cost of her life. Blanc explained that Moon Drop could undo any magic, and the group realized someone on the island was gathering it to free Deliora.

  • Blanc and Happy descended into the underground chamber, where they and the others discovered a gigantic monster sealed in ice.
  • Gray identified the monster as Deliora, the demon that had destroyed his hometown Isban ten years earlier.
  • Gray explained that his teacher, Ur, had sacrificed herself to seal Deliora with Iced Shell.
  • Gray panicked when Natsu approached the ice and warned that fire could melt the seal, but Blanc said Iced Shell could be undone.
  • Blanc identified Moon Drop as magic capable of undoing any magic and concluded that someone on the island planned to use it to free Deliora.

Ch. 77Ur and Gray

Gray learned that Deliora had died after ten years sealed in Iced Shell, and he resolved to stop anyone from melting the ice and dishonoring Ur. As the others waited for night, Gray relived Ur’s sacrifice and blamed himself for her fate.

  • Blanc told Gray that Deliora was already dead and that melting the ice would only reveal its corpse.
  • Gray declared that he would stop anyone trying to melt Iced Shell, while Blanc, Natsu, and Lucy settled in to wait for night.
  • As the others slept, Gray remembered how he had disobeyed Ur and rushed toward Deliora, only to be rescued by her.
  • Ur protected Gray and Lyon from Deliora, then used Iced Shell to seal the demon at the cost of her life, asking Gray to tell Lyon she was dead.
  • Gray emerged from the memory in tears and resolved never to let anyone tarnish Ur’s final legacy.

Ch. 78Lyon

Gray and his companions discovered that Lyon’s group was using Moon Drop to revive Deliora. After Gray confronted Lyon, an old masked man exposed the group’s hiding place, and the two sides faced off.

  • A hole opened in the temple ceiling, and the group saw purple moonlight pouring onto Deliora.
  • Blanc identified the cloaked figures’ chant as the Moon Drop incantation.
  • Lyon arrived with Sherry, Yuka, and Toby and learned that Deliora’s revival would be ready within two days.
  • An old masked man found Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Blanc, and Happy behind a wall, alerting Lyon’s group.
  • Gray and Lyon’s ice spells clashed, and the groups confronted each other beneath the moonlight.
  • Gray recognized Lyon and demanded to know what he was doing, but Lyon mocked him instead of answering.

Ch. 79Fellow Disciples

Lyon accused Gray of killing Ur and ordered his followers to destroy the village while Zarut continued the ritual. Blanc confronted Lyon and unleashed Wood Release: Nativity of a World of Trees, transforming the island around the Temple into a vast forest.

  • Lyon blamed Gray for Ur's death, and Gray froze in guilt as Lyon attacked him until Blanc blocked the ice spike with a wooden wall.
  • Yuka recognized Blanc as a renowned Fairy Tail S-Class Mage, but Lyon dismissed the warning and ordered Yuka, Sherry, and Toby to destroy the village.
  • Lyon told Zarut to keep the ritual going while Natsu and Gray prepared to oppose him.
  • Blanc challenged Lyon and released Wood Release: Nativity of a World of Trees, causing enormous trees to rise across the island and cover the Temple in a towering forest.

Ch. 80Can We Have a Proper Talk Now?

Blanc used enormous plant magic to overwhelm Lyon, Zarut, and their allies on the Temple dome, leaving Gray to confront his former fellow student. Lyon explained that he wanted to defeat Deliora to surpass Ur, then accused Gray of causing Ur’s death.

  • The villagers saw the forest rise into a vast wall of trees and Mocha wondered whether the Wizards they had hired were responsible.
  • Blanc’s trees and vines captured Yuka, Toby, Sherry, Zarut, Lyon, and the black-robed figures, ending the battle at the Temple.
  • Lucy and her companions saw that Blanc’s magic had transformed the island’s terrain, and Blanc taunted the bound Lyon before letting Gray speak with him.
  • Gray demanded to know why Lyon was releasing Deliora, and Lyon said defeating the monster was his only way to surpass Ur.
  • Lyon accused Gray of killing Ur by insisting on challenging Deliora in the past.
