Background / History
Lü Qingyi rose through the Divine Firmament Sword Sect through her own efforts. Although the sect wanted to give her preferential treatment, she rejected it and fought her way upward with her sword. Her experience in the outer sect later shaped the standards she imposed on prospective disciples 25.
Despite being the youngest core disciple, she holds authority equal to the sect leader’s; at times, her words carry even more weight. Her standing rests on her dependability and the beneficial policies she established for the sect. The Grand Ancestor’s prophecy describes her as holding up “half the sky in the Hongmeng World” 11.
The Grand Ancestor personally appointed her as Ye Ningshuang’s future master. Other core members insisted that she devote herself entirely to this responsibility rather than divide her attention by also accepting Ying Huaixu 17.
Early Cultivation and Sect Reform
Lü Qingyi did not begin as a conventionally gifted cultivator. Her inferior spiritual root was unlike any the sect had encountered: it was compatible with no attribute, rejected conventional Dao arts, and had no suitable cultivation method. She chose the sword because of its relative independence from attribute compatibility, nourished her spirit through sword cultivation, and created a cultivation system of her own. Her exceptional comprehension compensated for her poor initial aptitude 220.
During her early years in the sect, she was bullied and pursued by people who wanted to kill her. He Xixiang once rescued her when she had nowhere left to flee. Thereafter, He Xixiang’s secluded residence became a refuge where Lü Qingyi recovered from injuries with the help of special fruits. She visited less frequently after becoming strong enough to change the sect 442.
Some sect elders denounced her unconventional cultivation as demonic. Lü Qingyi did not attempt to persuade them verbally; she advanced from the outer sect through the inner sect to the legacy disciples, killing those who tried to eradicate her in the name of righteousness until no one dared repeat the accusation 221.
Her reforms included a violent purge of the sect’s old order. She killed the previous sect master, a fact that continues to frighten the current leadership when she becomes genuinely angry. Old Ten’s false accusation of demonic cultivation contributed to the persecution she faced and set in motion her purge of Ancient God Firmament. Despite their enmity, Lü Qingyi spared Old Ten and eventually allowed her to leave Reflection Cliff 62 370.
Heavenly Tribulations and Foundational Injury
Lü Qingyi dominated her era, but her heavenly tribulations became progressively more destructive. Her first tribulation upon entering the Spirit Sea Realm nearly killed her and required the Grand Ancestor’s intervention. A later tribulation ground away the foundation of her Great Dao and nearly dispersed her soul 131.
Third Martial Uncle states that, when she became a Heaven-and-Earth True Immortal, she destroyed the ancient Sky-Supporting Diagram during the ordeal 161.
The Taiyin Old Ancestor later recounts the catastrophe surrounding her attempt to advance to Emperor Lord. An enormous Taiyin disc manifested during the tribulation and attempted to crush her. Cheng Yingtian intervened at the last moment, sacrificing his life to save hers. Lü Qingyi nevertheless suffered grievous injuries, lost much of her strength, and was reduced to a child’s body. She subsequently rebuilt her strength despite her damaged foundation 324 325.
The Taiyin Old Ancestor’s investigation also uncovered that Lü Qingyi had once been placed on the Outsiders’ Must-Kill List. According to his account, she survived partly because her enemies feared completely enraging the Heavenly Dao and partly because an unspecified loss made her seem less threatening to them. Ying Huaixu suspects that her failed advancement was connected to higher existences suppressing the world, but this remains his conjecture 328.
Relationship with the World’s Heavenly Dao
After awakening from seclusion, Lü Qingyi is instructed by the Heavenly Dao to remain concealed until Ying Huaixu completes the Star Sea Secret Realm. The Heavenly Dao warns that exposing her condition would worsen the danger facing Ying Huaixu, Ye Ningshuang, and their allies. It also reveals a contingency in which Lü Qingyi and Ying Huaixu would be sent away with the world’s seeds if the world could no longer be saved 307 308.
The Heavenly Dao later reveals that Lü Qingyi has the potential to become a Higher-Dimensional Heavenly Dao and has already received half its control over the world. This transfer occurred before it fully understood Ying Huaixu’s capabilities. Its intended arrangement leaves the other half for Ye Ningshuang and Xu Yaoyang to control jointly, though that portion has not yet been distributed 452 455.
When told of a larger collaboration involving the Cheat Distributor, Lü Qingyi immediately seals her memories of the restricted information. The Heavenly Dao regards this restraint as evidence of the disposition that made her a suitable recipient of its authority 455.
Appearance
Lü Qingyi is repeatedly described as a little girl, though Ying Huaixu finds her real-world bearing more regal and intimidating than her game portrayal 9 10. Her childlike body is later explained as a consequence of the catastrophic injury she suffered during her attempted advancement to Emperor Lord 324.
- Short stature: She must look upward to speak to Ying Huaixu; he learns to crouch so she does not strain her neck 10 13.
- Controlled expression: She often remains expressionless while questioning others or issuing orders 10 11 13.
- Divine Deer mount: She is seen seated atop her deer, which carries her away trailing an immortal rainbow 16.
- Adult form: She can appear as a tall, mature woman with silver hair, a long black dress, and a cool, aloof beauty. Ying Huaixu estimates her height in this form at approximately 190 centimeters 86 91.
- Changing forms: Ying Huaixu directly witnesses her shrink from her adult form into her child form, with her clothing changing size alongside her 91.
- Greatsword imagery: A painting depicts her adult form holding a greatsword behind her back while making a sword seal with her other hand 86.
Personality
Lü Qingyi values independence over inherited prestige or prophetic importance. She believes assistance should come when genuinely needed, not replace a cultivator’s own effort. Her dislike of supposedly self-reliant heroines who depend on everyone around them informs her refusal to indulge Ye Ningshuang 25.
She is protective without being deferential to authority. She forbids disciples from humiliating Ying Huaixu, rejects interference in his relationship with Ye Ningshuang, and resents prophecies that dictate other people’s lives. She also opposes forcing Ye Ningshuang’s cultivation upward at the risk of damaging her 11 19.
Her pride sometimes conflicts with her concern for others. After assigning Ying Huaixu a dangerous errand, she worries about his safety but hesitates to chase after him because it would cost her face. She instead orders a disciple to protect him secretly 13.
She is uncompromising about her right to train her disciple. After the sect leadership criticizes Ye Ningshuang’s near-death experience in Falling Radiance City, she demands that they either appoint a different master or stop interfering with her methods. She points to Ye Ningshuang’s progress as evidence that her approach is effective 52.
Her apparent severity is accompanied by practical trust and concern for fairness. Although she believes Ying Huaixu’s warning about Xue Si, she does not consider an unsupported accusation sufficient grounds to search Xue Si’s soul. Her questioning of Ying Huaixu is intended to teach him to present a coherent explanation that others can accept, rather than to deny his contribution 83 84.
She is wary of emotional entanglement and of the Heavenly Dao’s attempts to encourage it. After observing He Xixiang’s growing attachment to Ying Huaixu, she initially avoids getting too close to him for fear of undergoing the same change. She later acknowledges internally that she feels no aversion toward him and cannot attribute that entirely to outside influence 57 211 443.
Once she has made up her mind, even He Xixiang finds it impossible to stop her. Before investigating a danger outside the sect, she reassures He Xixiang but still makes extensive defensive preparations in case her absence brings trouble 484.
Abilities & Skills
Divination Arts
Lü Qingyi uses three copper coins and a subject’s birth date and time to divine future achievements 11.
- Regards her skill as second to none beneath the Grand Ancestor 11.
- Foresees Ye Ningshuang supporting a collapsing world, ending an age of darkness, and becoming an unparalleled empress 11.
- Repeatedly receives variations of “utterly ordinary” for Ying Huaixu, despite his exceptional performance 11.
- Finds Ying Huaixu’s readings especially baffling because they exact no divination cost 11.
- Divines that Ying Huaixu will betray He Xixiang and “stab her in the back” if accepted as her disciple. She later privately treats the wording as less straightforward than He Xixiang initially assumes 53 70.
Spiritual Perception and Investigation
She combines spiritual sense, background investigations, and direct observation to assess disciples 10 11 25.
- Uses a testing stone to identify spiritual roots, confirming Ye Ningshuang’s hidden Dark Mystery Spiritual Root 10.
- Reads information stored in jade tokens and reviews Ying Huaixu’s sect activity logs 11 25.
- Recognizes the contradiction between Ying Huaixu’s apparent strength and his ability to defeat stronger opponents 10.
- Infers that he may be able to locate objectives merely by receiving a task, then orders witnesses to keep this confidential 18.
- Explicitly denies being able to read minds; she says Ying Huaixu’s thoughts are written on his face 10.
- Detects logical inconsistencies in Ying Huaixu’s explanation of how he learned the Thousand Mechanisms Sect’s plans 83.
- Investigates a starry sky drained of vitality but cannot locate the mysterious envoy connected to the Thousand Mechanisms Sect 92.
- Recognizes that a portrait resembling Ying Huaixu actually depicts a different person, noticing a mole beneath the woman’s left eye. She brings the matter to the Heavenly Dao, which identifies the woman as Ying Manny 481.
Weapon Refinement
She refines the restrictions and physical condition of Ying Huaixu’s newly acquired spirit sword 16.
- Removes black energy and rust from the blade 16.
- Transforms it into an ice-blue, top-grade spirit weapon with an ice attribute 16.
- Gives the refinement as compensation for the danger of her errand 16.
- Casually shapes a piece of metal into a longsword for Ying Huaixu’s Return to True training 457.
Flight and Object Manipulation
- Descends slowly from a rooftop rather than falling normally 9.
- Travels on a flying sword and leads other sect disciples in flight 10.
- Draws objects into her hand or suspends them above her palm without touching them 13 16 25.
- Crushes a pill and its container with spiritual energy 25.
- Remains seated in midair while roots grow beneath her into a stool 57.
- Uses a True Spirit Hand to seize and repeatedly strike a prisoner at Reflection Cliff 57.
- Teleports Ying Huaixu away with a snap of her fingers and transports others directly into special spaces 92 432 442.
- Possesses a version of Shrinking Earth to an Inch that Ying Huaixu learns; its teleportation distance depends on the spiritual power expended 378.
Swordsmanship and Self-Created Cultivation
Her cultivation is built on a system she developed for herself rather than on a method suited to an established spiritual-root category. Sword cultivation allows her to proceed despite her lack of compatibility with attributes and conventional Dao arts 220.
- Her historical opponents repeatedly underestimate her limits. He Xixiang describes her as someone who becomes stronger against stronger opponents and surpasses those who initially seem beyond her 221.
- The Taiyin Old Ancestor, then at perfected Heaven-and-Earth True Immortal, was sent flying by a single strike from her door-sized greatsword 324.
- While testing the Illusion Tree’s instance, she fights Ying Huaixu’s illusory double and barely defeats it after using power beyond the Meridian Opening realm 76.
- He Xixiang explicitly identifies Lü Qingyi as stronger than herself 220.
- She gathers countless sect flying swords into an enormous sword that destroys an attacking hand extending through a spatial rift 426.
- Her sword qi cuts open the sky of Primordial Chaos, allowing chaotic energy and countless stars to pour into the world 426.
- With Evil-Exterminating, she releases a selective slash that reduces Outsiders touched by its light to dust while leaving non-Outsiders unharmed 426.
Burden Divine Ability
Lü Qingyi’s Dao Palace Divine Ability is Burden. Initially, it appears detrimental because it increases the load on her own body to the point that she cannot lift her sword. Through comprehension, she develops it beyond that apparent limitation, gains the ability to increase it at will, and changes the very concept of what constitutes a burden 269.
World, Space, and Time Manipulation
- Holds a miniature universe containing planets in her hand, then places it into a tear in the void 91.
- Explains that controlling a starry sky is an ability of Tribulation Transcendence cultivators 92.
- Restores a mountain range after He Xixiang’s attack flattens the surrounding land for ten thousand li 119.
- Looks into the River of Time, shatters misleading visions, and seizes the river until it admits that its chaotic state provides no reliable outcomes 159.
- Later observes that the future portion of the River of Time has been severed. The Heavenly Dao warns her not to reconnect it 447.
- Physically tears off a piece of Chaos and shapes it into a simple Great Universe with extraordinarily dense energy 443.
- Places Ying Huaixu in a training world where one day in Primordial Chaos corresponds to one hundred years inside. She can devastate that world by pouring a cup of tea into it and control the attacks within it from outside 456 457 458.
Authority and Creation Power
Lü Qingyi possesses an innate Authority that awakened at birth. The Heavenly Dao states that the way she developed it was limited by her approach and circumstances rather than by a late awakening 460.
Her control is sufficiently developed to influence Ying Huaixu’s less-developed Authority, though she says she cannot truly reach it. She repeatedly warns him that his Authority cannot substitute for understanding his own cultivation and abilities 457 459.
She possesses violet-gold creation power, which the Heavenly Dao explains as a blessing of Great Dao power obtained by transforming a world and changing its rules. She lends this power to the Heavenly Dao after it promises to repay her double if its plan succeeds. She later waives repayment, prompting the Heavenly Dao to become suspicious of her intentions 397 452.
Her connection with the world extends beyond ordinary cultivation: the Heavenly Dao has entrusted her with half its control over the world, and she has the potential to become a Higher-Dimensional Heavenly Dao herself 452.
Protection and Instruction
- Refines her sovereign blood into a rainbow-colored pearl for Ying Huaixu to wear after discovering that his primordial force could expose him to the Heavenly Dao’s wrath 159.
- Supplies defensive armor, a shield, and three jade tokens capable of blocking fatal blows for an expedition involving Ye Ningshuang and He Xiuyuan 92.
- Gives Ying Huaixu a Heavenly Tribulation Pearl and stands guard during his breakthrough 365.
- Supplies Revival Pills whose effectiveness Ying Huaixu confirms by dying and reviving at full strength 432.
- Leaves He Xixiang three sword talismans containing three of her strongest attacks before departing to investigate outside dangers 484.
Her instruction emphasizes comprehension, adaptability, and the practical use of cultivation realms. During Ying Huaixu’s Return to True training, she makes him restore a shattered world, defend it against disasters and flying swords, and eventually create his own plane. Her purpose is to prepare him for enemies capable of restricting his cheat and to make him recognize his realm as part of himself rather than a separate tool 456 457 458 459.

Relationships
- Ying Huaixu — Recruit and favored junior disciple, not her personal disciple. His abilities repeatedly challenge her divinations; she rewards him generously and unsuccessfully seeks a master willing to accept him 10 16 17. After he becomes He Xixiang’s disciple, she refuses the address “Martial Aunt” and insists that he continue calling her Senior Sister 60. He eventually regards her as family and recognizes that her decision to protect and cultivate him, rather than kill him and search his soul over his suspicious knowledge, was crucial to his survival 137. Their relationship develops an acknowledged emotional dimension, though she resists the Heavenly Dao’s matchmaking and is embarrassed by his former game-account names expressing attachment to her 443 451 479. She remains an important practical mentor, personally training his Return to True abilities and preparing him for the Nine-Color Kings and Heart-Questioning Valley 456 457 458 459.
- Ye Ningshuang — Initially a prospective disciple chosen for her by the Grand Ancestor. Lü Qingyi protects her freedom of choice but demands self-reliance and makes formal acceptance conditional on meeting her standards 11 17 25 27. She is later explicitly treated as Lü Qingyi’s disciple 65 107. Lü Qingyi defends her training methods against the other peak lords and asks Ying Huaixu to obtain the Nine-Leaf Nether Soul Lotus because of its importance to Ye Ningshuang 52 132.
- Tong Xinran — Eighth senior sister. She refuses Lü Qingyi’s request to accept Ying Huaixu and later discusses Ye Ningshuang’s training with her 16 17 25.
- Sect Master / Zhuang Mu — Eldest senior brother. He respects her authority but clashes with her over forced cultivation and the risks of Ye Ningshuang’s mission 19 27. Continued criticism leads Lü Qingyi to demand either full control over her disciple’s training or the appointment of another master. He and the other senior disciples are genuinely frightened when her anger recalls her killing of the previous sect master 52 62.
- Grand Ancestor — Prophetic authority whose arrangements she resents. Ying Huaixu’s unexplained achievements lead her to question whether his prophecy can be wrong 11 19 25. The Grand Ancestor previously intervened to save her during her first Spirit Sea tribulation 131.
- He Xixiang — Sixth senior sister and one of her closest allies. He Xixiang rescued her during her vulnerable early years and repeatedly healed her injuries 53 442. Lü Qingyi advises her about Ying Huaixu, teases her over her growing attachment to him, and cautions against protecting him so thoroughly that he loses opportunities to train 53 65 70. She also restrains He Xixiang’s destructive interventions and is injured while stopping her during the dispute with Third Martial Uncle 151 152. Before departing on a potentially dangerous investigation, she entrusts the sect’s defense to He Xixiang and leaves her three powerful sword talismans 484.
- Cheng Yingtian — Sacrificed his life to save her from the Taiyin disc during her attempted Emperor Lord tribulation 324.
- Heavenly Dao — Strategic collaborator, lender’s debtor, and source of both assistance and frustration. It entrusts her with half its control over the world and involves her in plans for the world’s survival 308 397 452. She objects to its manipulation of emotional circumstances. It maintains that it can only amplify existing feelings, not create them from nothing 451.
- Old Ten — Former enemy whose false accusation contributed to Lü Qingyi’s persecution. Lü Qingyi spares her, confines her at Reflection Cliff, and eventually permits her to leave. Old Ten comes to appreciate that mercy and becomes more cautious after learning the consequences of her earlier actions 367 370.
- Illusion Tree’s spirit — Accepts her into the Divine Firmament Sword Sect with an elder’s token and evaluates the training instance she maintains 76.

Original Game Scenario
- In Ying Huaixu’s remembered game storyline, Lü Qingyi intervenes at Falling Radiance City and frightens away the summoned emissary 30.
- The expected boss sequence has her descend, knock the enemy away with one sword strike, and treat Ye Ningshuang and the player. In the actual encounter, she does not arrive when Ying Huaixu expects, forcing him to act himself 47.
- Her game attributes were all displayed as question marks, and her backstory emphasized her formidable strength without specifying its limits 77.
Simulated Futures
- In Third Martial Uncle’s century-long Life Simulation, Lü Qingyi fights the Thirteen Giants alone during the Outsider invasion. He eventually sees her fall from beyond the heavens and disappear as the sect is overwhelmed. This is a simulated outcome, not her established fate in the actual story 490.
