The novelty of a new cultivation method never lasted long.
Once that novelty faded, leaving only long, scorching torment, Su Yu quickly lost his illusions about this particular practice.
"What kind of fucking idiotic, self-mutilating cultivation is this? How did I come up with something like this?"
Su Yu declared that if he had another chance, he definitely would not cultivate this way.
If he had never discovered it, he would never have cultivated this way.
But once he had discovered it, there was no going back.
After all, it was a way to improve his combat strength relative to others at the same level.
Even if it could not improve that strength right now, there was still an excellent chance it would improve his eventual combat strength at the same level.
Among his cultivation goals, that ranked almost above everything else.
After cultivating for a few days, Su Yu finally managed to lay out a rough plan for this training regimen.
He persisted with only three hours of Dantian tempering each day.
During this Dantian tempering, he used ten clumps of red substance at once.
In other words, ten clumps of red substance simultaneously tempered ten small areas.
He had to endure the scorching heat anyway, so he might as well endure it all at once.
Meanwhile, he also explored incorporating the red substance directly into his meridians.
To his relief, incorporating the red substance into his meridians burned straight through them.
That meant he could not perform this sort of targeted tempering on his meridians alone.
Of course, arriving at that conclusion also meant Su Yu's meridians had actually been burned through.
Fortunately, he possessed the Golden Blood Ape's bloodline power, giving him astonishing vitality and exceptional regenerative ability.
He had also tested only a tiny area and prepared countermeasures beforehand.
Besides, the so-called burning through was merely the result of excessive nourishment.
As his Bloodline Power surged in, it quickly transferred away the excess energy from the red substance in that area.
"I don't know whether it's because of my Martial Soul or because the Dantian itself is special. Apart from the Dantian, no other part can withstand the red substance's scorching heat when tempered individually."
"But even though I can't target other parts for improvement, my whole body benefits whenever I absorb the red substance in the inner landscape."
"A little improvement every day will still add up to something considerable if I keep at it."
After studying the red substance, Su Yu turned to the blue substance.
Compared with the improvements offered by the red substance, the blue substance served more of a supporting role.
But there was no denying how effective that support was.
It could eliminate all kinds of fatigue within his flesh and bodily tissues, allowing Su Yu to achieve twice the results with half the effort.
Besides that, Su Yu actively explored the inner landscape in search of more mysterious substances.
Unfortunately, his progress in uncovering mysterious substances remained far from encouraging.
He had initially found the red and blue substances only because those two mysterious substances were the most widely distributed.
"If I want to absorb a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring as my second soul ring, I still need to improve my Spiritual Power to withstand Soul Shock."
His Spiritual Power had continued growing since his second awakening.
Especially after mastering the knack of sending his Spiritual Power deep into the inner landscape, Su Yu felt that every cultivation session there was itself a kind of unconventional visualization practice.
Within his flesh lay an entire world-the universe and river of stars inside his body.
Whenever he entered it to cultivate, his Spiritual Power seemed to undergo the baptism of a visualization practice.
Although he could not illuminate the entire inner landscape for visualization, Su Yu had, after all, seen it in its entirety.
And even without that complete view, the sight of the vast, gray, silent expanse filling the inner landscape beyond Su Yu's little corner was equally effective at tempering his Spiritual Power.
Yet even so, the rate at which his Spiritual Power grew still fell far short.
Su Yu had no clear standard for comparison, but he felt that one month would not be enough for his Spiritual Power to grow strong enough to withstand Soul Shock.
The reason he had dared to set a one-month deadline with Du Busi was that he had another approach in mind.
After successfully transporting the red substance into his Dantian, he likewise attempted to transport it into his Sea of Consciousness.
As the red substance scorched his entire Sea of Consciousness, bringing it to a boil and nourishing it throughout, all of Su Yu's apprehension and unease vanished.
"Mysterious substances are the GOAT!"
His Spiritual Power could not improve sufficiently for the moment, but the barriers of his Sea of Consciousness could undergo a major improvement in a short time.
No matter how violent the soul's tremors were, could they possibly reach into the inner landscape?
And as long as Soul Shock did not shatter his Sea of Consciousness, Su Yu could temporarily store his Spiritual Power in the inner landscape and keep his consciousness there too. What would he have to fear from Soul Shock?
Time slipped away, second by second.
And so, as Su Yu cultivated while exploring the inner landscape, a month passed in what felt like an instant.
Du Busi came to find Su Yu.
"Well? Are you confident now?"
Su Yu nodded.
Seeing that Su Yu looked entirely sure of himself, Du Busi did not hesitate. He took him out of Heaven Dou City and headed straight for the nearest harbor.
As Soul Tool Technology developed, the maritime industry of the Douluo Continent had undergone more than one major transformation.
Although ships still had not reached the point where they could freely navigate the deep seas, they were far more advanced than those of ten thousand years ago.
At the harbor, Du Busi rented a medium-sized boat.
The boat was powered by a soul tool engine and equipped with more than ten storage compartments, all fully outfitted.
The two of them set out to sea just like that.
Driven by Du Busi's formidable Soul Power, the boat's engine creaked under the unbearable strain.
"Ah, this engine's grade is too low. It can't support me driving it at full power."
Du Busi reined in his Soul Power a little, testing the highest speed their boat could reach with this soul tool engine.
A moment later, he shut off the engine in disappointment.
"Forget it. Let's fly instead."
With that, he slipped his hands beneath Su Yu's arms from behind and held him suspended in midair.
Then he stored the boat in his Storage Soul Tool.
The Flying Soul Tool on his back activated at full speed.
With Du Busi's own flight ability combined with the Flying Soul Tool, their flying speed was actually more than five times that of the boat powered by the soul tool engine.
And that was with Du Busi carrying Su Yu as extra baggage.
If he were alone, he could probably go even faster.
The two traveled over the deep seas like this, stopping and starting.
Whenever they grew hungry, or Du Busi's Soul Power dropped to seventy or eighty percent, they stopped on the sea and brought out the boat. They briefly traveled by boat instead of flying while they recovered.
Even while traveling this way, Su Yu did not stop cultivating.
After all, Du Busi spent most of the time carrying him through the air.
Su Yu himself could sink his consciousness, along with his essence, energy, and spirit, into the inner landscape and cultivate efficiently.
Whenever Su Yu cultivated in this state, Du Busi could not help marveling.
"What a freak!"
Being able to cultivate so efficiently regardless of his body's circumstances was completely beyond anything he had imagined.
