Darkness, endless darkness.

A bone-deep chill seeped through the darkness. Gul'dan almost felt as though his body had frozen solid.

Meanwhile, in the darkness, a faint glimmer of green gradually gathered into barely perceptible shapes, then began to writhe soundlessly.

These faintly glowing shadow creatures tangled together, letting out sinister laughter as they approached the doorway...

"What are these things?" Jazba Soulrender shouted.

The Orc Death Knight's voice trembled slightly.

"They look... like demons!" Drak'Sool said, shuddering. "A kind of demon we've never encountered..."

They had all once been warlocks, and they knew demons so well... yet now, none of them could name these demons.

Gul'dan reached out, and a faint light appeared in the Death Knight's hand.

But it was useless. It did nothing to stop the Shadow Demons.

The green-glowing demons wrapped tightly around the Death Knight, feeding on what remained of his life force.

"Oh, no!" The other three Death Knights all looked ready to flee, but their frozen bodies prevented their escape.

"I've already died once! I have nothing left to fear, and nothing left to lose!" Gul'dan closed his eyes, then let out an agonized roar.

The skin on his female knight's body began to peel away slowly, before the body finally exploded...

"Corpse Explosion!"

Gul'dan detonated his body completely, and his soul burst free of its shell.

"It's you, Avatar!" the warlock's soul roared. "Avatar of Sargeras, do you think you can stop me?"

Aegwynn had defeated the Avatar of Sargeras, but had been unable to destroy him. In the process of sealing him away, this suit of armor had been buried beneath the temple, where it had slumbered for centuries...

And after those centuries had passed, although Sargeras's soul had been destroyed, this avatar still retained some of his master's power.
