After having Special Assistant Zhou book a restaurant, Ye Yunhuai drove there with Ye Xunzhi instead of having Special Assistant Zhou drive.
Once they entered the private room, Ye Xunzhi took the menu from Ye Yunhuai. The man said casually:
"Order whatever you like. Anything you want."
"Then do you have any recommendations, Eldest Brother?"
Ye Xunzhi flipped through the thick stack of menu pages. The Heavenly Brocade Pavilion certainly lived up to its reputation as an "imperial kitchen." Her indecisiveness was about to kick in.
"You're least likely to go wrong if you order something you've eaten before."
Ye Yunhuai didn't say that because he didn't want to recommend anything. Mostly, he really had never ordered dishes himself.
He usually left things like arranging the dishes to his assistant. Having eaten all sorts of delicacies since childhood, Ye Yunhuai didn't have much desire to indulge his palate.
Nodding, Ye Xunzhi obediently went back to flipping through the menu, muttering inwardly:
Easy for him to say. I haven't really eaten much of anything.
Thinking back to her previous lives, her eldest brother had already been locked up by the time Ye Xunzhi came home, and the Ye Family had begun to decline.
The fact that she later had to scavenge rubbish with her second brother showed that the family had become so poor they could barely afford to eat.
After her eldest brother went to prison, the old man had been unable to accept it and had fallen ill, never getting back out of bed.
Ye Yunhuai said, "All in."
What the heck!
Ye Xunzhi turned her head in shock with enough force to nearly snap her neck. Ye Yunhuai still wore that same unruffled, domineering CEO expression.
He told the manager taking their order, "Bring one of everything. We'll try them."
"No, no, no, no, no! Think it through, Eldest Brother! What do we need so much food for?"
Ye Xunzhi hurriedly stopped Ye Yunhuai from treating money like dirt.
Good grief! What kind of spending level is this? He's even crazier than girls shopping like mad on Singles' Day! Who said men had less spending power than dogs? My eldest brother has surpassed dogs!
Her eldest brother's temple twitched. "Weren't you having trouble deciding? Then we'll order one of everything and try them."
"But I don't like eating everything. I'll just pick a few dishes from the pictures." With that, Ye Xunzhi pointed at a picture of a steak.
"This one looks pretty good."
Eldest Brother Ye said, "Order it."
Although the manager was a little disappointed that he couldn't serve everything, he still showed ample patience with his distinguished guests' requests.
Then Ye Xunzhi discovered that things were starting to go wrong.
Whenever her gaze lingered on a menu page for more than five seconds.
Ye Yunhuai would say, "Order this page."
"No, Eldest Brother..."
"It's fine. You keep looking, and I'll keep ordering."
"Uh..."
"Order it."
"But..."
"Order it."
What followed was a contest of endurance and speed, as the three of them engaged in an audible showdown over a single menu.
Ye Xunzhi's eyes darted up and down, and her hands flipped the pages so fast they nearly blurred, as though a five-second countdown were running in her head.
Ye Yunhuai kept a stern face, but he didn't hesitate in the slightest, as though he, too, had a built-in stopwatch.
Beside them, the manager wrote so fast his pen was practically about to catch fire.
As the last page was turned, the showdown finally drew to a close.
The manager left contentedly with a full page of orders, remarking:
"What a thoroughly exhilarating showdown."
Ye Xunzhi felt numb after going through all that. There happened to be a large shopping mall near the Heavenly Brocade Pavilion. After the meal, Ye Yunhuai thought that his little sister had only just returned and probably didn't have many clothes yet, so they might as well buy some.
While passing a coffee shop, Ye Xunzhi was drawn to a cup of its signature coffee, which had an especially cute cat's head in its latte art.
Ye Xunzhi's eyes lit up. She told her eldest brother to browse the shops first while she bought a cup of coffee.
Ye Yunhuai wasn't particularly interested in cute things like that. Hearing this, he walked toward the shops at the other end without objecting.
After successfully getting her coffee, Ye Xunzhi gave it a little wobble, making the cat's head on top sway around. It would be a waste not to take a picture of this. Ye Xunzhi carefully held her coffee.
"Here will do."
Finding a pleasantly scenic corner of the coffee shop, Ye Xunzhi set the cup on a natural wood table and took out her phone to look for an angle.
She had barely taken two pictures when she heard a server's quietly disdainful voice nearby:
"She has to take pictures even when she's just having coffee. What a bumpkin. She's wearing designer clothes, though. Probably another nouveau riche putting on a show to look important."
"..."
Ye Xunzhi calmly finished taking her pictures, ate the cat's head in one mouthful, then splashed her coffee onto the corridor floor. She addressed the mocking server directly:
"Server, I accidentally spilled it. Come clean it up."
The server gritted her teeth, cursing inwardly: This girl is so petty. All I did was say a couple of things about her.
She reluctantly fetched a mop. As Ye Xunzhi left, she bent down and said softly:
"You're a lowlife destined to sweep floors for the rest of your life."
"You!!!" The server glared at Ye Xunzhi as though her eyes could spit fire.
Ye Xunzhi tilted her head. "What about me? I just love seeing you unable to stand me but unable to do anything about me."
With that, Ye Xunzhi turned and strode away.
What should you do when you're upset? You might as well be bold. Nobody gets out of this world alive anyway.
At the same time, around a corner of the coffee shop, a phone silently recorded everything.
Wei Yang really hadn't expected to stumble upon such a spectacular scene just by going shopping today.
She was Ye Xunzhi's classmate and had always disliked her. She didn't think there was anything so great about Ye Xunzhi. Wasn't she just relying on having been born into a good family?
If she could get the same resources, she would definitely do better than Ye Xunzhi!
Wei Yang had precisely that kind of blind confidence. She curled her lips and deftly swiped her fingertips, sending the scene to her online friend.
She decided to have a good laugh at Ye Xunzhi with her close online friend first, then post the video on the school website and ruin Ye Xunzhi's reputation.
But after she sent the video, the online friend who usually replied instantly didn't respond for a long while.
Wei Yang frowned. Her darling wasn't usually like this.
"What's going on? Bad reception at his grave? He's replying so slowly that a carrier pigeon would be faster."
A voice drifted eerily from behind her. Wei Yang nodded instinctively, then turned around in astonishment and found herself facing a phone camera. Her expression froze, and for a moment she failed to react.
"Ye Xunzhi, why are you here! Didn't you..."
She cut herself off in time. Ye Xunzhi helpfully finished the sentence for her:
"Didn't I leave? Wei Yang, you didn't really think I hadn't noticed you, did you? I just wanted to see what you were going to do."
Ye Xunzhi was far too familiar with these malicious gazes, especially in open settings like the street.
With Wei Yang's level of skill at secretly filming, Ye Xunzhi would have seemed brainless if she hadn't noticed.
Thinking of how she had just behaved, Wei Yang's expression abruptly changed.
Ye Xunzhi held up her phone and waved it. Her smile couldn't be called harmless, only purely malicious.
"Why are you so scared? Don't worry. This is the far-ahead-of-the-competition Huawei Mate 60 I just got today. I guarantee this demon-revealing mirror will show you exactly as you are."
