Background / History

Ye Yunhuai is the eldest of five Ye brothers. Their father had six children with six different women, never married, and left children with Old Master Ye to raise. Old Master Ye eventually severed ties with him. By Ye Xunzhi’s return, Ye Yunhuai describes their grandfather as the household’s only remaining elder following their parents’ deaths 1 2.

He took over the Ye Group while still at university. Continuing his grandfather’s sponsorship of Zhou Li, an orphan, he financed Zhou’s education abroad and recruited him after graduation to develop him into a trusted aide 5.

Secretary Xu was another beneficiary of his support. They had been friends since high school, when Ye Yunhuai helped him financially because he believed Xu’s family was poor. After graduation, he brought Xu directly into the Ye Group, unaware that their friendship had been cultivated as part of a long-term plot against his family 6.
