Background / History

Ye Chongyun is the Ye Family’s eldest son and Ye Zuixi’s older brother. The family’s businesses center on luxury goods and jewelry, with auction houses and large shopping malls among its holdings. Despite his reputation as a notorious playboy, he possesses considerable business ability and prestige within the Ye Corporation Group 32.

At six years old, he pushed one of his father’s illegitimate daughters down the stairs, killing her, and then mutilated her body. The Ye Family concealed the circumstances, particularly the mutilation, and he escaped legal punishment. Yan Jinyue later disclosed the crime to Ji Hanxing; Luo Fei subsequently identified the victim as Yao Yue’s daughter, who had died at two years old 60 128.

The Ye Family declined under his father, Ye Xun. After seizing control, Ye Chongyun sent his father overseas and became the family’s sole authority. His mother had long been living in a sanatorium with mental health problems, his grandfather had died, and his grandmother rarely involved herself in family affairs. Ye Zuixi held only a small share of the corporation 61.

Ye Chongyun introduced sweeping corporate reforms that produced signs of recovery, although the Ye Family still lagged behind the Yan, Cheng, and Jiang families. His ambition eventually extended beyond restoring his own business to taking over the entire Ji Group 61 119.

Personality

Ye Chongyun maintains a frivolous, smiling exterior while deliberately pressuring others. When Ji Hanxing rejects his attempts at familiarity, he alternates between apparent warmth, condescension, and an implied threat to Ji Hanxing’s business reputation. His expression briefly darkens when challenged before he restores his indulgent smile 70.

He treats family relationships as instruments of personal gain. He considers Ye Zuixi useful for securing a marriage alliance, underestimates her abilities, and intends to make her bear responsibility for his crimes. His supposed concern for her romantic disappointment is calculated to provoke resentment and secure her obedience 119 130 134.

His cruelty includes enjoyment of a victim’s fear: while holding Ji Hanxing captive, he becomes excited by his anger, helplessness, and panic. He also expresses disgust toward Ji Hanxing’s relationship with Yan Jinyue and uses homophobic accusations to try to turn Ye Zuixi against them 130 134.

• Ye Zuixi proposes letting his scheme proceed far enough to gather further evidence. Ji Hanxing agrees and wears a sapphire anklet containing an anti-jamming tracker and listening device supplied through Ruan Xin 132.
• Following Ye Chongyun’s instructions, Ye Zuixi leads Ji Hanxing into an alley, where his men abduct him. Yan Jinyue monitors his location 133.
• At the hideout, Ye Chongyun orders Ye Zuixi to inject the bound Ji Hanxing with a drug intended to make him obedient. When she appears unable to do it, he takes up a replacement syringe himself, intending to blame her afterward 134.
• Ye Zuixi kicks him down and injects him instead. Yan Jinyue’s people subdue his men, police enter, and Yan Jinyue frees Ji Hanxing 134.

Role in the Altered Plot

• According to Ji Hanxing’s system, Ye Chongyun takes over Ye Zuixi’s original role as the vicious female supporting character. His final scheme becomes the last plot point Ji Hanxing must complete 132.
