Ji Xiangnian had never been a man who wore his feelings on his face, but this was so outrageous that a trace of astonishment appeared on it. "Xiangchen and Fang Ning got into a fight and ended up at the police station?"
His assistant explained the details. "Yes. Xiangchen apparently had a disagreement with two actors from the production and got into a fight at a restaurant. He was at a disadvantage fighting two against one, and Fang Ning apparently feared he would get badly hurt, so she went over with a liquor bottle."
"After that, Fang Ning injured the other party, and then all of them ended up at the police station."
It was not hard to find out about these things. Someone was keeping an eye on every move back home.
At those words, Ji Xiangnian's brows drew even tighter. Fang Ning helping Ji Xiangchen fight was truly beyond anything he had expected.
Since when had Fang Ning and Xiangchen been so close?
Chapter 20
And since when had Fang Ning's personality changed?
Although he had only spent a short time with Fang Ning, just a few days, he could tell that she was the delicate sort of girl.
When she spoke, she barely dared to breathe, her voice soft and gentle, like a startled bird.
She was a girl utterly lacking in confidence. One look was enough to tell that she was introverted. He could not imagine her hitting someone, or smashing a liquor bottle against someone.
He could not imagine what such a scene would look like.
"Also..." As he spoke, the assistant remembered something else he had forgotten. "After the two of them went into the police station, certain circumstances prevented them from reaching their respective companies' lawyers. Xiangyi brought a lawyer to the police station and got them both out."
Xiangyi. At that, the expression on Ji Xiangnian's face became even harder to read.
He knew that his younger brother and sister did not get along. Whenever they met, they were sure to clash. Neither could stand the other.
Xiangyi disapproved of Xiangchen abandoning the company to become an actor in the entertainment industry. She had a rather cold personality and did not mince her words, especially with Xiangchen.
Of course, Xiangchen could not stand the icy Xiangyi either.
This gave him a terrible headache. Sometimes he simply could not understand how two people who were twins could dislike each other so much.
As their guardian, what he wanted most was for the two younger ones to get along peacefully, and for them to love each other one day.
But he knew very well that getting Xiangyi and Xiangchen to that point would be harder than reaching the heavens. Never mind getting along harmoniously-even sitting at the same table for a meal was no simple matter.
Yet today, Xiangyi had actually gone to the police station to get Xiangchen out. Ji Xiangnian was deeply puzzled.
The assistant stood there, watching his boss sink into thought. Aside from his boss's family affairs, there were several other matters, and he hesitated over whether to bring them up now.
Given his boss's position, their long time abroad had left a whole pile of matters accumulating back home, both professional and personal.
There were plenty of both.
But while the assistant was hesitating, Ji Xiangnian spoke, his well-defined fingers tapping lightly on the desk, his tone calm. "We'll be returning home in a few days. Leave everything here to Gu Ming."
The assistant nodded, then continued after a moment's thought. "By the way, Chairman Ji, Xia Mingchang, the chairman of Tomorrow Technology, has been trying to reach you these past few days. He wants to invite you to his home for a simple family meal."
"There's also an invitation to a charity gala in a week. Would you like to attend?"
Ji Xiangnian's slow tapping on the desk paused, and he said unhurriedly, "Xia Mingchang. I remember he seems to have a daughter, right? Here's what you should tell him: I'll pass on the meal at his home. Just say I've recently discovered a private restaurant with excellent food and would like to invite him to join me there."
The assistant nodded. He understood what his boss meant. With his status as an eligible bachelor, running such a large business, handsome and distinguished, what family with a daughter of a suitable age would not try their luck?
Still, he remembered that Xia Mingchang's daughter seemed to be only in her early twenties, about Ji Xiangyi's age. She was more than ten years younger than his boss and hardly a good match for him.
Wait, wasn't the boss's wife about that age too?
At that thought, the assistant could barely contain his contempt for his boss. His boss really was shameless, marrying a wife so much younger than himself.
"Accept the charity gala invitation," Ji Xiangnian said suddenly, interrupting the assistant's thoughts. After a brief pause, he added, "Don't bother finding me a female companion. I'll ask Fang Ning."
When they married, their agreement had included a clause about this. Until he found another partner he liked, Fang Ning would need to help fend off outsiders for him.
Of course, that came with a condition: he would have to pay extra.
Money was not much of an issue.
Meanwhile, Ji Xiangzhou had already played seven or eight rounds with Zhao Fei and Ye Yang.
Ji Xiangzhou had originally called them over to thrash other players, but in the end, they had been thrashed for seven or eight rounds instead.
Across all those rounds, Ji Xiangzhou had been killed no fewer than a hundred times in total, averaging more than ten deaths per round.
Heaven was fair, really. It had given Ji Xiangzhou an exceptionally high IQ, but deprived him of any talent for gaming.
Of course, he was still the type who was terrible at it yet loved to play.
Ye Yang had always been rather thick-skinned and did not bother with methods or strategies when gaming. Charging straight in and hacking away was the way to go.
Only Zhao Fei was slightly better at it. Of course, slightly better meant just a little better than the other two noobs.
For instance, when the other two encountered an enemy, all they knew was to charge in and take them head-on. Zhao Fei at least knew to check the other player's stats and skills.
Of course, he still ended up getting killed.
When it came to gaming, Ji Xiangzhou was nowhere near as calm as he appeared. After the final round, he tossed his phone aside and asked with a dark face, "These dumbasses don't know a damn thing about gaming. I was the one fighting the monster, so what right did he have to steal it?"
