Personality

Mie maintains the manners expected of a Main Family daughter, greeting elders formally and often folding her hands over her lower abdomen. She nevertheless approaches Lei despite the gossip that discourages other classmates from associating with him 25 26 30.

Her composure conceals a fear of loneliness and rejection. At Teuchi’s shop, she tries to eat elegantly beside Lei; when Teuchi exposes her usual habit of eating quickly, she worries that her new friends will consider her a liar and abandon her. Lei’s reassurance moves her to tears 27.

She is openly jealous of Lei’s closeness with other girls, but clan pressure makes acting on her own feelings difficult. Although she wants freedom from an arranged marriage, she refuses to simply leave the Hyuga because her parents and relatives remain there 28 29.

Growing Close to Uchiha Lei

Mie has liked Lei since they began attending the Academy, but the Hyuga prohibition on marrying outsiders keeps her from confessing. She initially approaches him because she finds him handsome. After complimenting Lei and Kushina as a couple, she accepts his invitation to sit beside them 25 30.

She joins Lei, Kushina, and Mikoto for lunch and introduces them to Teuchi’s Noodle Shop, where she is a regular customer. Lei apologizes after teasing her about jealousy, then comforts her when Teuchi inadvertently embarrasses her. Their friendship quickly becomes more affectionate 26 27.

Engagement and Clan Opposition

Back at the Academy, Mie objects to Lei and Kushina sleeping in each other’s arms before marriage. She agrees to let Lei hug her before class, after which he kisses her and publicly declares that she is under his protection. Life at the Front Lines

At Konoha Camp, Mie spars with Nawaki while Orochimaru brings Lei to visit them. She counters Nawaki’s straight punch with a Gentle Fist strike to his elbow, then intercepts his roundhouse kick by striking his knee. Orochimaru stops the one-sided exchange before Nawaki can continue. On noticing Lei, Mie rushes to embrace him 51.

Orochimaru praises her calmness and precise, forceful strikes. Mie attributes her performance to Lei’s guidance and repeats his advice that even a lion uses its full strength to catch a rabbit. After Lei again warns Nawaki against reckless charges and explosive tags, Nawaki promises to stay behind Mie on the battlefield 51.

When Lei prepares to leave, Mie asks him to stay the night because she is frightened and has not slept well. He declines for that evening but promises to visit the following night. After returning from driving off Hanzō, Lei honors the promise and goes to her tent. They spend the evening together; when she becomes nauseated at the sight of their meal, he comforts her, disposes of the food, and stays with her through the night 52 57.

During Lei’s later confrontation with Hanzō, Tsunade goes to protect Mie, Mikoto, and Karura while he fights 75.

Later Campaigns

Mie remains part of Lei’s close circle during later campaigns. While discussing his battle against two leading Kumogakure fighters, she expresses pride in his strength and declares that no one in the Shinobi World’s younger generation can match him. When Lei introduces Pakura as his woman, Mie accepts her alongside Karura and Konan 131.

Return to Konoha and Wedding Plans

After Mito urges Lei to give his partners a proper marital status, he visits Mie at the Hyuga Clan Compound and takes her to an empty training ground beside the Ninja Academy. Mie asks for his personal guidance, then demonstrates Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. Lei identifies errors in her targeting angles and physically guides her wrists and stance to improve her strikes 143.

Mie interrupts the lesson, declares that she wants to carry on Lei’s bloodline, and uses the Body Flicker Technique to take him to an inn. The following morning, Lei explains that his first wedding will be to Kushina because she is pregnant, but promises to hold separate weddings for Mie and his other partners afterward. Mie agrees to wait and asks to consult her parents. Lei accompanies her to the Hyuga residence, where he respectfully addresses her parents in the clan’s reception hall 143 144.
