Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Innate Royal Guard strength; instinctive aura control 114 Born vastly stronger than Squadron Leaders. After noticing Tethos’s aura, instinctively stops personal aura leakage and circulates it around the body.
Basic Nen proficiency 120 Displays enormous aura output and Nen-assisted leaps. Kite’s Crazy Slots gunshot knocks Neferpitou down without penetrating the defenses.
Terpsichora developed 122 Manifests a Nen Beast that controls Neferpitou’s body through threads, increasing combat strength while preserving voluntary control.
Defensive corpse puppets developed 124 Uses Defenders to intercept Kite’s attacks with reinforced corpses, prioritizing survival and protection over offense.
Healing ability developed 127 Creates a doll-like medical Nen Beast after realizing Meruem could be injured; first uses it to treat Colt. The ability is later identified as Doctor Blythe.
Palace-wide En demonstrated 134 Maintains an irregular detection field covering the palace and everything within a two-thousand-meter radius.
Puppet Master developed 138 After killing Colt, develops an ability to reuse dead bodies. Controlled Colt creates additional puppets, which can use basic Nen.
Further defensive growth 151 152 Kite’s uncharged surprise attack can no longer penetrate Neferpitou’s body; improved reactions also allow a response before impact.
Post-mortem Nen 162 163 165 After Netero kills Neferpitou, negative-emotion-based Nen strengthens the corpse and sustains its abilities. Terpsichora continues moving it, while Doctor Blythe can rapidly rebuild missing body parts.

Appearance

  • Humanoid build: A finely featured human face, flat muscular torso, and largely human-shaped limbs 114.
  • Feline features: Short white hair, mobile cat ears, and a long, flexible tail 114.
  • Insect traits: Unusual leg joints and shell-like armor around the arm and leg joints 114.
  • Hunting posture: Drops onto all fours before attacking; the post-mortem body also arches its back like a threatened cat 150 151 165.

Personality

Neferpitou is curious and playful, initially treating aura control as an entertaining discovery. The same attitude later extends to combat and corpse manipulation: infiltrators become interesting opponents, and controlled humans are disposable “toys.” Even after repeated losses, Neferpitou remains confident that more puppets can be made 114 138 146.

Loyalty to Meruem overrides personal amusement, pain, and concern for other Chimera Ants. During the nest attack, fear for the unborn King makes Neferpitou disregard an abdominal wound. After Meruem’s birth, Neferpitou kills a Squadron Leader for approaching without permission and shows no concern for the dying Queen’s cries 122 129.

That loyalty can include gratitude, but only when Neferpitou believes someone serves the King. Colt earns treatment and approval for protecting the Queen’s abdomen; once his loyalty proves to belong to the Queen rather than Meruem, Neferpitou kills him. Later, Neferpitou protects Komugi despite not understanding why Meruem values her, accepting the King’s order as sufficient reason 127 138 152.

Abilities & Skills

Physical Strength, Speed, and Durability

Neferpitou’s natural strength already surpasses Squadron Leaders at birth, before deliberate Nen training 114.

  • Explosive movement: Enlarges the leg muscles to launch from walls or the ground; later runs on all fours faster than Gido’s burst speed 120 151.
  • Claws: Tears through Toad tongues that resist ordinary blades and axes 147.
  • Durability: Withstands Kite’s gunfire and repeated blows from Netero’s 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva, although Netero ultimately kills Neferpitou 120 159 162.
  • Instinctive threat detection: Senses something approaching above the palace before identifying it through En 150.
  • Limits: Cannot naturally fly, and cannot evade Netero’s attacks despite seeing his movements clearly 120 151.

En

Neferpitou uses En for nest defense, palace surveillance, and pursuit 123 134 159.

  • Covers the palace and a two-thousand-meter radius in an irregular field 134.
  • Can contract the field and redirect it upward to investigate an aerial threat 150.
  • Can maintain En while moving at high speed 159.
  • Blind spot: Shaiapouf’s smallest clones bypass detection and attack Komugi from within 156.
  • Tactical risk: Canceling En to prepare for combat allows Netero and Zeno to conceal themselves among Dragon Dive’s attacks 151.

Terpsichora

A Nen Beast attaches threads to Neferpitou’s body and controls its movements to increase combat performance 122.

  • Neferpitou retains initiative and can end the control voluntarily; the enhancement is less extreme than Shalnark’s Black Voice autopilot 122.
  • Adjusts movement in midair and protects Neferpitou against lightning 147.
  • Reacts to Kite’s surprise strike, shifting Neferpitou enough to avoid a fatal wound 149.
  • Continues controlling the corpse after death, acting through instinct rather than retained memory 163 165.
  • Post-mortem weakness: Severed threads disrupt coordination. Destroying the corpse removes the body Terpsichora needs to function 165.

Defenders / Guardian Puppets

These defensive Nen Beasts use battered corpses as shields rather than primarily as attackers 124.

  • Hurl reinforced corpses into the path of incoming blows, giving Neferpitou additional protection against Kite 124.
  • Intercept lightning during the aerial palace battle 147.
  • A Guardian without a corpse can extend threads around Qiao Lun’s Shadow Curtain to threaten the person behind it 147.
  • Their development explicitly shifts toward defense in response to Qiao Lun’s intervention 124.

Doctor Blythe

A medical Nen Beast conceived to save Meruem if the King were injured. Its first documented patient is Colt 127.

  • Lowers surgical instruments to repair bodies and damaged organs 127 147 156.
  • Remains fixed where summoned; its connection to Neferpitou’s tail can arrest a fall 147 151.
  • Movement restriction: While connected, Neferpitou cannot move farther than the tail allows. Breaking the tail would make Doctor Blythe disappear 156.
  • Cannot extract Shaiapouf’s evasive clones quickly enough to stop their destruction of Komugi’s organs; Round Deer’s positive energy heals her faster 156.
  • Under post-mortem Nen, rapidly reconstructs missing portions of Neferpitou’s corpse, but cannot outpace Netero and Round Deer’s combined destruction 165.

Puppet Master

Developed after Colt’s death to prevent his abilities from being wasted, Puppet Master controls bodies that are already dead 138.

  • Controls Colt and dead human soldiers throughout East Gorteau 138.
  • People killed by the controlled Colt acquire Puppet Masters of their own, expanding the puppet force 138.
  • Grants puppets access to basic Nen applications 138.
  • Puppets persist unless completely destroyed 138.
  • Information limit: Controlling soldiers does not provide a complete view of the city; Neferpitou lacks Flutter’s compound-eye surveillance 146.

Post-Mortem Nen

After death, Neferpitou continues guarding Meruem through pitch-black Nen rooted in negative emotions 162 163.

  • Strengthens the corpse and sustains both Terpsichora and Doctor Blythe 165.
  • The corpse continuously supplies Terpsichora with Nen, making attacks on the Nen Beast alone insufficient 165.
  • Counter: Reverse Cursed Technique’s positive energy can purify this Nen. Netero’s suppression is still necessary to keep Neferpitou from evading the cleansing 163 164.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Birth and the NGL Nest Attack

Neferpitou emerges as the first Royal Guard and immediately begins exploring aura control. When Qiao Lun and Kite approach the nest, Neferpitou attacks them, then abandons the engagement’s original rhythm once the unborn Meruem is threatened 114 120 121.

Qiao Lun’s Shadow Curtain blocks Neferpitou from reaching the Queen during the giant bird’s attack. While Neferpitou is distracted, Kite pierces the abdomen with a spear. Neferpitou subsequently relies on defensive puppets and discovers that the Queen and Meruem have survived 122 123 124.

After the battle, Neferpitou treats Colt for protecting the Queen. Approaching poisonous smoke forces the colony to evacuate eastward, and the Royal Guards accompany the Queen until Meruem’s birth 127 128 129.

East Gorteau and the Selection

After Meruem establishes himself in East Gorteau’s palace, Neferpitou guards it with En. Colt, revived and brought along, attacks the King over the Queen’s death; Neferpitou kills him and develops Puppet Master to reuse his corpse 134 138.

The resulting puppet network accelerates Shaiapouf’s Soldier Ant and livestock plans. Controlled soldiers attack assembled civilians during the selection, then help search for infiltrators. During Qiao Lun’s preliminary palace raid, Neferpitou fights alongside Shaiapouf and survives Kite’s concealed attack 138 147 149 150.

Palace Invasion and Komugi

Netero knocks Neferpitou away during the invasion, but Doctor Blythe stops the fall. Neferpitou races back toward Meruem, ignoring Kite’s interception. Before departing with Netero and Zeno, Meruem orders Neferpitou to protect Komugi 151 152.

Shaiapouf’s clones attack Komugi internally, provoking Neferpitou into a fight with the nearby Hunters. Qiao Lun instead helps save her with Round Deer. Once Shaiapouf and Youpi are dead and Neferpitou is convinced the humans will not kill Komugi, Neferpitou leaves to pursue the King 156 157 158.

Death and Final Destruction

Netero intercepts Neferpitou in the underground ruins while Qiao Lun fights Meruem. By the time Meruem falls, Netero has killed Neferpitou, but the corpse attacks under post-mortem Nen. Qiao Lun uses Tiger Funeral as a distraction and removes Neferpitou’s shadow 159 162 163.

The corpse follows Meruem back toward Komugi. Netero repeatedly strikes it into Round Deer’s positive-energy attacks, overcoming Doctor Blythe’s regeneration and destroying the body, Terpsichora, and Doctor Blythe within minutes. Only the single-use shadow stored by Qiao Lun remains 164 165.

Relationships

  • Meruem — King and overriding priority. Neferpitou develops healing powers for his protection and continues defending him after death 127 163.
  • Chimera Ant Queen — Progenitor. Neferpitou protects her while she carries Meruem but disregards her suffering once the King is born 122 129.
  • Shaiapouf — Fellow Royal Guard and selection collaborator. Their duties diverge over Komugi: Neferpitou obeys the order to protect her, while Shaiapouf tries to kill her 146 152 156.
  • Youpi — Fellow Royal Guard. His death leaves Neferpitou as Meruem’s last surviving guard 157.
  • Colt — Initially a respected protector and patient; later killed for attacking Meruem and repurposed as a puppet 127 138.
  • Qiao Lun — Repeated enemy who nevertheless helps save Komugi. Values Neferpitou’s abilities enough to secure the shadow before assisting in the corpse’s destruction 156 162 163 165.
  • Kite — Recurring opponent whose attacks demonstrate Neferpitou’s rapid growth. Neferpitou eventually dismisses a direct challenge, judging Kite unable to win 152 157.
  • Netero — Kills Neferpitou and later provides the speed and suppression needed to eliminate the post-mortem body 162 164 165.
  • Komugi — Entrusted to Neferpitou by Meruem. Her safety temporarily takes precedence over accompanying the King 152 156.
  • Ramotto — Favored subordinate whose strength rises rapidly with Neferpitou’s help 149.
