[Nightmare, level 1, durability 300/300, capacity 400 units, speed 40 knots] [Ship skills: Nightmare: Sleeping aboard causes nightmares. Energy recovery efficiency -75%. Angler's Curse: This ship is cursed. It cannot catch normal fish.] [Description: After drifting at sea for centuries, this ship has finally welcomed its new owner...]
Yang Yi's expression soured as he finished reading the ship's information.
This was a ghost ship.
Barnacles and seaweed covered the outside of its hull. Who knew how many years it had gone without cleaning.
The deck was wet too, creaking underfoot.
He had played plenty of horror games.
A scene like this probably had monsters lurking in it!
Fortunately, he searched the whole ship without finding a second thing that could move.
Yang Yi let out a long breath.
He had no desire to get into an all-out showdown with some inexplicable creature right at the start, either.
He had also figured out the ship's layout.
It was about twelve meters long, consisting of the helm, the captain's cabin, the deck, and the hold.
The helm stood on a raised platform on the foredeck, offering a good view.
Behind it was the captain's cabin, containing a bed and some simple furniture.
Farther back was the ship's midsection, where a tall mast stood.
At the stern was the hold, which led straight into the hull and was used for storing cargo.
Yang Yi had checked the hold. It was completely empty, without even a bug, and only a damp, nauseating smell of mold greeted him.
He was starting with zero supplies...
After all, this ghost ship had drifted at sea for who knew how many years. It would have been strange if there had been food and drink!
Yang Yi opened the log and continued checking the world channel, hoping to see what the others had discovered.
Most of the people chatting were showing off their ships.
Most had ordinary ships, but some had special ones, and a few stood out in particular.
[Gale, level 1, durability 800/800, capacity 500 units, speed 70 knots] [Ship skill: Ride the wind and waves: Increases ship speed by 100% for 5 minutes.] [Description: You won't even get a whiff of its exhaust. Trust me!]
This was probably the fastest ship so far.
The other ships with no special features had speeds of around thirty to forty knots, depending on size. Larger ships generally had higher durability but were a little slower.
Yang Yi's Nightmare was above average in speed.
[Sakura, level 1, durability 1000/1000, capacity 1000 units, speed 35 knots] [Radiant Blessing: The cherry tree aboard emits evolutionary blessed light, occasionally altering crew members' attributes and potentially triggering evolution!] [Description: Hopefully the crew can stay human-shaped.]
After this information appeared, the world channel fell silent for a rare few seconds.
"Haha, awesome ship, right? I can feel myself evolving! Wryyyyy!"
"Are you sure that isn't mutation?"
"The Sakura, huh? You'd better sail faster and stay out of my way, or I'll shove a cannon barrel right up your XX!"
The speaker was aboard the Iron Will. He had disabled anonymity, displaying his ship's name.
He had also attached a picture, taken with the log's screenshot function.
It was a steel warship armed to the teeth, with a full twenty cannon barrels along its sides. Its firepower was maxed out, bristling with martial might.
But everyone burst out laughing at the thought of its speed of just five knots.
"Baka! Try surviving until tomorrow first."
"Goddammit! Just you wait!"
A string of pointless insults followed, with many words censored.
"Looks like the system translates different languages into your own native language..."
Yang Yi quietly typed, "Count me in!"
Then he kept scrolling up and finally found something interesting.
"Have any of you tried fishing?"
"Quiet, I'm fishing!"
"Now that I know we can fish, I suddenly don't want to go back."
"I fish once a week, for a week at a time!"
"I just finished chumming the water."
"Your ship is moving. What the hell are you chumming for, idiot?"
"Fuck! Why didn't you say so sooner? I did it out of habit. My black bread!"
"Guess what I caught-a bottle of Farmer's Three Punches!"
Yang Yi's eyes lit up. If he could fish up fresh water, that would make things easy.
His ship also had a fishing rod, lying on the deck.
[Name: Moldy fishing rod covered in barnacles] [Type: Tool/relic] [Quality: Good] [Description: Reduces the chance of catching normal fish and slightly increases the chance of catching unidentified objects. Trust me, you won't like what it catches.]
"Those unidentified objects probably include fresh water!"
That was Yang Yi's assessment.
Before he started fishing, though, Yang Yi still needed to adjust the ship's heading and speed.
He had no destination at the moment, so he planned to keep going straight ahead along the default heading at full speed.
At the limit of his vision behind him, an unknown distance away, was a streak of black. That was probably the boundary of the Black Fog.
So he couldn't go wrong by sailing forward.
Controlling the ship was simple too. It required no skill-it was all magic.
He only had to hold the helm to change the ship's heading and steer it with ease.
That included adjusting its speed and using its equipment, such as the grappling hook.
Overall, it felt like the sailing games he had played, even simpler than driving. He skipped the learning process and became one with the ship straight away.
The helm was also at the bow, allowing the player to steer while constantly watching the sea ahead.
Otherwise, it would probably have been impossible for one person to operate this ship.
As for propulsion...
Yang Yi looked at the mast, with only a few token strips of rag hanging from it.
He decided not to think about that and concentrated on grabbing floating debris.
[Rotten wood +1] [Rotten wood +1] [Rag strip +1] [Rotten wood +1]
New messages kept appearing in the sailing log's activity record.
The gameplay was a lot like Gold Miner, except that the targets were moving.
Once an item was caught, it was converted into supplies and stored in the hold, where it could be checked through the log.
Each piece of rotten wood had a chance of converting into one unit of timber, while rag strips yielded one unit of cloth.
Yang Yi did a quick calculation. The probability was less than 10%.
In other words, grabbing ten pieces of rotten wood would yield roughly one unit of timber.
If he deliberately targeted driftwood in better condition, the odds would be higher.
Yang Yi grabbed over a hundred floating objects and collected a total of five units of timber and three units of cloth. It took three hours and was not particularly efficient.
But this took skill. His efficiency would improve as he became more proficient.
The timber and cloth could be used to upgrade the ship.
Upgrading Yang Yi's ship to level 2 required the following materials: [Timber ×200, cloth ×100, captain's remains].
He already knew what those remains were. They had to be the ones in the captain's cabin.
So he couldn't throw those bones away.
A conservative estimate put the time needed to collect all that timber and cloth at over a week.
And this was only a level 1 ship.
At higher levels, upgrading would probably become even harder.
But upgrading a ship actually required remains...
Yang Yi suddenly realized that special ships might require somewhat different upgrade materials.
He immediately opened the chat channel to check, and found that this was indeed the case.
Ships without special features required fewer materials to upgrade.
They only needed timber ×100 and cloth ×50, with no remains required at all.
And that Iron Will... actually required steel to upgrade.
"Fuck! Where am I supposed to find steel out on the ocean? How the hell am I supposed to upgrade?"
"As everyone knows, iron is denser than water. It'll just sink to the bottom."
"Anglers can catch anything! I just fished up one unit of steel!"
"Huh?"
"Buying steel at high prices! Whoever gives me steel gets to be my lackey."
"Baka! Buying steel? Try surviving until tomorrow first! The Black Fog is about to catch you!"
"The Sakura, huh? Drop the anonymity if you've got the guts! Just you wait. Don't let me catch you!"
Yang Yi closed the log.
It seemed special ships weren't all advantages. They were harder to upgrade and could easily fall behind in level.
He picked up the fishing rod and prepared to fish.
