Appearance and Layout
- Hull: Barnacles and seaweed cover the exterior; its rotten wooden construction remains visibly dilapidated even after upgrading 2 11 20.
- Deck and sails: The deck is wet and creaks underfoot, while the sails hang in tattered strips 2 17.
- Bow: The helm sits at the bow, allowing the operator to watch the route ahead while steering. At level 2, the previous captain’s skeleton is bound to the bow with rusted iron chains 2 11.
- Interior: Includes captain’s quarters and an initially empty, moldy hold. Reaching level 2 adds a room available for expansion 2 11.
- Merged form: Nightmare Star retains the ghost-ship exterior and chained skeleton, but adds rusty iron sheeting, an enormous crystal ball amidships, a separate bedroom for Su Na, and a larger hold with two expansion spaces 30.
Abilities and Limitations
Nightmare
Sleeping aboard causes nightmares and reduces energy recovery efficiency by 75% 2 11.
- Possible forewarning: Yang Yi dreams of a Drowned Dead entering his room before encountering one, and later dreams of a giant worm before the creatures surround the ship 5 24.
- Unconfirmed precognition: Yang Yi values these dreams as warnings, but the system does not explicitly describe them as prophetic. He later questions their reliability and refuses to let them dictate his decisions 10 24.
- Apparent captain restriction: Su Na reports no nightmares while sharing the captain’s cabin. Nightmare Star’s skill description later explicitly states that the effect applies only to the captain 21 30.
- Recovery support: Yang Yi seeks Vitality Coconuts to manage the drawback. Vitality Coconut Juice Refresher restores 10 energy and increases recovery speed by 50% for eight hours, with an effect limited to once every 24 hours 13.
Angler’s Curse
Nightmare cannot catch normal fish. Its level-2 description also notes an increased probability of encountering abnormal things 2 11.
- Its catches include poisonous abyssal fish, long-legged sardines, and an eyeball—finds that attract Su Na’s interest 4 11.
- Fishing can introduce serious threats: catching a Demon Hammerhead Shark brings a school of nearly a hundred sharks around the ship 21.
- Nightmare Star retains the inability to catch normal fish and the increased chance of catching abnormal objects 30.
Helm Control and Access Permissions
The ship uses magical controls rather than requiring conventional sailing expertise 2.
- Holding the helm allows the operator to change heading, adjust speed, and operate equipment such as the grappling hook 2.
- Boarding restrictions prevent unauthorized players from entering. Yang Yi deliberately removes the restriction to lure a pirate aboard 9.
- Yang Yi grants Su Na access and repair permissions during the storm 20.
Structural Weakness
Despite its speed, Nightmare has low durability and a fragile hull 11 20.
- Three collisions with storm-driven debris remove more than 100 durability from its level-2 hull 20.
- Su Na repairs it using a stone hammer while Yang Yi continues steering 20 21.
- The original vessel has no mounted weapons when it faces the giant worm that destroys it 26.
Skills Inherited by Nightmare Star
| Skill | Function |
|---|---|
| Astrology | Displays a nautical chart within 150 nautical miles through the crystal ball; can provide vibrating alerts when other players appear 30. |
| Peering | Searches by ship or player name to obtain coordinates and view the ship. Limited to one target per day; its post-merger reach extends across the map 30. |
Equipment and Expansions
Original Nightmare
- Barnacle-covered fishing rod: Reduces the chance of catching normal fish and increases the chance of unidentified objects 2.
- Grappling hook: Used to retrieve floating salvage, haul gathered stone aboard, and connect the vessel to the Astrologer 2 12 19.
- Monster Gacha Machine: Processes monster remains into rewards; Yang Yi uses it aboard Nightmare for Siren remains and sea-serpent skin 19.
- Ancient War Room option: Yang Yi selects this expansion path after reaching level 2 11.
Nightmare Star Additions
- Crystal balls: A large central crystal ball and two smaller receivers let Yang Yi and Su Na consult the nautical chart 30 33.
- Witch Laboratory: Approved by Yang Yi and completed as Nightmare Star’s first expansion building. It occupies two expansion spaces and contains metal worktables, shelving, glass vessels, and uninterrupted lighting 32 33 44.
- Giant Bobbit Worm Head: Obtained as a rare ship relic; later confirmed aboard as equipment capable of biting a large hole in another ship 31 46.
- Catapult: Confirmed as part of the ship’s armament by the encounter with Good Luck 46.
History
Early Survival and Upgrade
Nightmare’s description states that it drifted at sea for centuries before receiving its new owner. Yang Yi initially finds its hold empty and discovers that its curses complicate both rest and food gathering 2.
On the first night, the previous captain’s skeleton animates, takes the fishing rod, and fishes up a Drowned Dead. After Yang Yi kills the creature, the skeleton ambushes him with the rod; he fights back while in Frenzy 5 6.
A pirate later grapples onto Nightmare and attempts to kill Yang Yi. Yang Yi defeats him, loots the Pirate, and dismantles it for enough materials to upgrade Nightmare to level 2 9 10 11.
Voyage Through the Storm Sea
After surviving the Sirens, Yang Yi and Su Na agree to cooperate through the approaching storm. They connect their ships so the faster Nightmare can tow the Astrologer 19.
Nightmare suffers repeated debris impacts, prompting Su Na to come aboard and handle repairs. The pair subsequently alternate steering duties, survive a Demon Hammerhead Shark attack, and navigate between giant worms using the Astrologer’s chart 20 21 24 25.
As the storm weakens, the worms become better able to detect ships. Su Na releases the Astrologer to distract two pursuers, but another worm blocks Nightmare’s escape route. Yang Yi blasts its head apart with his Flintlock’s cannon mode; its momentum nevertheless carries it into Nightmare, inflicting 600 durability damage and splitting the hull in two 26.
Merger and Reconstruction
After the sinking, Su Na reveals her Ship Merging Card. The two combine their vessels, elect Yang Yi captain, and rename the default Nightmare Astrologer to Nightmare Star 27 28.
Reconstruction requires wood ×700, cloth ×300, stone ×100, crystal ×20, and steel ×10. Yu Dawei supplies the last needed timber in exchange for a tow. The rebuilt Nightmare Star pulls the Iron Will at 17 knots, outpacing the Black Fog’s 15 knots 28 30.
Further Development
- Level-3 requirements: Wood ×1,200, cloth ×500, stone ×300, steel ×50, crystal ×100, and ten Otherworldly Demon corpses 33.
- Resource bottleneck: By the aftermath of Hu Wei’s defeat, Yang Yi has enough ordinary materials, but still lacks the required demon remains and uses the captured ship as a towed warehouse 41.
- Corpse restrictions: An adult Tinder Wool Spider is rejected as a beast rather than an Otherworldly Demon. Yang Yi later finds giant specimens with grafted human bodies that qualify as upgrade materials; no completed level-3 upgrade is documented 49 50.
Associated Characters and Ships

- Astrologer — Su Na’s vessel, initially towed through the storm and later merged with Nightmare 19 28.
- Yu Dawei / Iron Will — Supplies reconstruction timber in return for being towed out of danger 30.
