Arc 14The Dream World Distorts

Elliot expanded the Factory’s influence while his allies faced growing dangers linked to the Dream World. After Dream Creatures disrupted Vanessa and Dorothea’s abilities and attacked Elsa, Elliot was left to seek answers from his father, who had gone on an expedition.

  • Elliot advanced Maeve through several ranks and welcomed the Factory workers’ acclaim, while the Old Duke gave him authority over Hearthfire District production and a schedule of engagements.
  • Vanessa entered a moonlit street in daylight, saw a monstrous vision, and learned from Victoria that Spirit Vision could expose her to dangerous projections of the Dream World.
  • Sia entered the Dream World, where Maeve and Xiao introduced her to its supernatural community and recorded her abilities as they searched for a Dream with a Blood Moon.
  • Maeve, Simon, and Flora became trapped in a house filled with shifting illusions, while Elliot realized their experiences differed and enlisted Vanessa’s help.
  • Elliot advanced Dorothea and chose [Mirror Secret Art], after which Dorothea’s body entered the Dream World and fused with Sia before returning to the Factory.
  • Victoria warned Vanessa that Dream Creatures could trap their victims in dreams, and Elliot connected the Dream World’s turmoil to Vanessa’s and Dorothea’s loss of control.
  • A Lord of Dreams invaded Elsa’s dream, but after Elliot sent her out and back in, Elsa found its corpse and saw its power flow into her box.
  • Victoria examined Elsa’s remains while hypnotizing Vanessa, and Elliot learned that Sidney refused to see him and that the Old Duke had gone on an expedition.
Chapters 327–351 Vol. 4 Read

Ch. 327Maeve's new ability

Elliot secured the Factory workers’ silence and considered how their growing faith could form a vast secret society, then used Maeve’s accumulated progress to advance her to Second Rank. Maeve fully recovered and gained a choice of new abilities.

  • Elliot confirmed that the night’s events had been erased from history and relied on the Difference Engine, Vanessa, and the workers’ loyalty to keep the Factory’s secrets.
  • Elliot considered turning the Factory’s self-sufficient community and thousands of Believers into an organization unlike any other Society.
  • Elliot checked Maeve’s Tree of the Supernatural and selected two more [Restoration] nodes, bringing her total to four.
  • Maeve advanced to Second Rank, stabilized dreams with Spirituality, and fully restored her condition.
  • Elliot read Maeve’s three new ability choices: [Rage], [Delicacy Holy Communion], and [Transformation].

Ch. 328Maeve, just how much did you eat?!

Elliot selected new abilities for Maeve and discovered that eating monsters had advanced her to middle rank. He tried to advance her further, but the system said she did not meet the prerequisites.

  • Elliot considered Maeve’s three Restoration abilities and chose [Transformation] and [Delicacy Holy Communion].
  • Elliot found Maeve’s progress still full and advanced her, selecting [Blood Moon Slaughter] and [Wild Hunt].
  • Elliot discovered Maeve had enough progress to reach middle rank after eating monsters all night.
  • Elliot tried to advance Maeve to fourth rank, but the system rejected the attempt because she had not met the prerequisites.

Ch. 329A new Saint Clair

After the Blood Moon ended, Saint Clair awoke clean and sunlit, and its residents believed Theresia had manifested. Elliot visited the Factory, where workers celebrated their survival, but he questioned what had really happened and how much of the truth remained hidden.

  • Elliot found that Flora’s Believer Card had changed, but he could not determine why he was unable to advance her and decided to ask her later.
  • At dawn, Saint Clair’s residents saw the clear sky and the Bronze Angel statue, then knelt and praised Theresia for the apparent miracle.
  • Elliot walked to the Factory, where the guards welcomed him and workers celebrated his leadership in defending the Hearthfire District.
  • Elliot remembered the festivalgoers who had died and become monsters, and he realized the city’s residents had forgotten them.
  • As the workers carried Elliot and cheered, he wondered whether the truths he knew were only another layer in a deeper dream.

Ch. 330The Old Duke's Questions

Elliot was questioned by the Old Duke, who gave him control of the Hearthfire District and arranged a series of public engagements to establish him as the Sterling Family’s heir. Elliot then asked Conrad how to keep the Night Watch Bureau from investigating the factories, and Conrad said its control of the Imperial Capital was about to end.

  • The Old Duke asked Elliot about problems with the sacrifice, then told him Sidney had been confined for challenging the sacrifice before His Majesty.
  • The Old Duke gave Elliot authority over the Hearthfire District’s production and handed him a schedule of social and political engagements.
  • Elliot accepted both documents with a noble’s salute and asked Conrad to obtain a Difference Engine catalog from the Troy Society.
  • Conrad advised Elliot not to visit Sidney while he was confined, and Elliot asked about the Sterling Family’s influence over the Night Watch Bureau.
  • Conrad told Elliot that the Night Watch Bureau’s control over the Imperial Capital was about to end.

Ch. 331Why was she taking part too?!

Elliot learned that controls in the Imperial Capital would ease after the festival and discussed protecting the Machine Priests who had sided with him. He discovered that the Frostmoon Uprising had been erased from official history, received Victoria’s bill for items taken from her Library, and learned that Vanessa planned to search for information about monsters.

  • Elliot learned the Night Watch Bureau and Dome Institute would gradually ease the Imperial Capital’s controls and arranged to station loyal Machine Priests at the factory.
  • Conrad explained that Prince Michel was a favored heir and warned Elliot to be cautious when contacting Princess Victoria because of the Frostmoon Uprising.
  • Conrad told Elliot that the uprising remained in people’s memories despite no longer existing in history, leading Elliot to suspect the Royal Family had altered the historical record.
  • Elliot received Victoria’s bill for supplies and household items, including a cleaning rag, and realized it was the score she had mentioned settling.
  • Vanessa told Maeve she would not return that night because she planned to seek information about the monsters.

Ch. 332Moonlit streets and alleys

After the Festival disaster, Vanessa and the Canteen's believers struggled to rebuild the Hearthfire District while she sought answers about the monsters and [Worm]. On her way to the Library, Vanessa entered an unnaturally silent alley beneath a moon despite the morning, and her [Spirit Vision] revealed something that left her frozen.

  • Vanessa and the others discussed their losses, the Canteen's growing influence, and inviting believers to vote on a new name for their society.
  • Vanessa left for the Library, passing people who worshipped Theresia and noticing that fear still lingered in the streets.
  • Vanessa turned into an alley to avoid a patrol officer and found the streets unnaturally silent beneath a bright crescent moon, though it was morning.
  • Vanessa sensed no danger with her spirituality, then activated [Spirit Vision] and froze at what she saw.

Ch. 333Vanessa Had Gone Mad

Vanessa experienced a terrifying vision after returning from a moonlit street, but trusted her Spirituality and did not attack Victoria. Victoria told her she had fallen into temporary madness and warned that it could happen again.

  • Vanessa left the moonlit street, turned off Spirit Vision, and headed for the Library while sensing something was wrong.
  • At the Library entrance, Vanessa saw a monstrous web and fell through a door made of spider silk.
  • Vanessa resisted the urge to attack the monster and trusted her Spirituality’s judgment, revealing Victoria instead.
  • Victoria said Vanessa had suffered temporary madness and explained the three kinds of madness.
  • Victoria inferred that Vanessa had Spirit Vision and called it a terrible ability because Miskatonic University made it available to commoners.

Ch. 334You won't die, but you won't be alive either

Victoria warned Vanessa that her visions might be signs of Spiritification, which could trap her permanently in the Dream World, and let her recover in the Library. She asked Vanessa to investigate the Overflowing Garden, a place Vanessa recognized as the bookstore Daydream.

  • Victoria explained the dangers of madness and Spirit Vision, then agreed to keep Vanessa in the Library and give her psychoanalysis.
  • Victoria found Vanessa's mind strangely normal and suspected she had experienced Spiritification after seeing spiderwebs in a moonlit alley.
  • Victoria explained that Vanessa might be seeing projections of the Dream World and could eventually become trapped there as a monster.
  • Vanessa mistakenly asked whether the spider woman she saw was Victoria's true appearance, and Victoria angrily corrected her.
  • Victoria told Vanessa the Library could shield her from Dream World images and asked her to investigate the Overflowing Garden.
  • Vanessa recognized the Overflowing Garden as Daydream, the bookstore where a great being had controlled her and performed a sacrificial ritual.

Ch. 335Vanessa, Are You Going to Betray Me!?

Vanessa told Victoria that she had entered [Overflowing Garden] through the bookstore Daydream, making Victoria fear she would stop visiting the Saint Clair Grand Library. After ordering Vanessa to rest from her injured mind, Victoria realized she was anxious about losing her and began considering how better service might keep her close.

  • Vanessa asked whether Victoria had any connection to [Overflowing Garden], and Victoria said she hoped her library would someday become its equal.
  • Victoria explained that no one had entered [Overflowing Garden], and Vanessa revealed that she had visited it twice through Daydream.
  • Victoria panicked that Vanessa would abandon her library, but Vanessa reassured her that she preferred its service.
  • Victoria had a bed moved into the library and ordered Vanessa to sleep while her mind recovered.
  • Victoria watched Vanessa sleep, worried that [Overflowing Garden] had gained her recognition, and wondered whether the library's better service could keep her from leaving.

Ch. 336Sia's new job

Sia signed a contract to become a Supernatural person after Maeve referred her for a job, accepting the dangers because poverty seemed worse. That night, she entered the Dream World, where Maeve found her and offered to explain what to do.

  • Sia told the clerk Maeve had referred her, and he explained the contract and the risks of exploring the Dream.
  • Sia signed the contract and was told to sleep on time so Maeve could guide her in her dream.
  • Sia returned to the refugee camp and fell asleep in her new bedding.
  • Sia awoke in a grand marble corridor in the Dream World, where Maeve found her and pulled her along to show her around.

Ch. 337A way to summon [Worm]

Maeve brought Sia to learn about the supernatural world, where Sia was introduced to the Canteen’s organizations and had her ability registered. Elliot’s search for Dreams with a Blood Moon was revealed as a way to have Maeve summon the dangerous [Worm] inside a Dream.

  • Maeve escorted Sia to a hall, where Phoebe led her to Xiao’s explanation of the supernatural world.
  • Xiao explained that the Communion handled supernatural affairs under Elsa, while the Guild managed daily needs under Dorothea.
  • Sia had her Flame Mark and innate ability, [Stepwise Optimization], recorded and received a nameplate.
  • The registrar told Sia to record the setting of her Dream because they were searching for Dreams with a Blood Moon.
  • Elliot planned to have Maeve summon [Worm] in a Dream to reduce the risk of destroying the real world.

Ch. 338No way out

Elliot searched the believers’ dreams for a Blood Moon World while Maeve returned to the Mansion after guiding their dreams. There, she found blood rituals and learned from Simon that they were trapped inside the house.

  • Elliot began searching the believers’ Dream Worlds for one with a Blood Moon.
  • Maeve returned to the Mansion, where the missing entrance light and the smell of blood made her uneasy.
  • Maeve found three ritual diagrams in the living room and detected blood coming from the bedrooms upstairs.
  • Simon revealed himself and told Maeve that a ritual’s effects had changed his eyes; he asked when she had last seen Dorothea.
  • Simon told Maeve they were trapped in the house, and Maeve discovered that she could not open a window or break its glass.

Ch. 339The house was alive

Maeve found Simon and Flora trapped inside a house that would not let anyone leave, and learned that its moving weaknesses suggested the house was alive. Her plan to wait for Allen to arrive was met with unease when Simon pointed out that Dorothea had not appeared.

  • Maeve learned that Simon, Flora, and Dorothea had been trapped in the house since the previous afternoon, unable to open the door or windows.
  • Flora explained that her [Weakness Insight] revealed the window's weakness was moving, while Simon's rituals to pin the house's weaknesses had failed.
  • Maeve realized the house might be alive and trapping them inside, and Simon and Flora warned her against using Dream Entry in their dangerous situation.
  • Maeve proposed waiting for Allen to arrive and keeping the door open so they could escape.
  • Simon asked Maeve if she had noticed that Dorothea had returned with them but had not appeared.

Ch. 340The woman who vanished

Maeve and Simon learned that Dorothea had vanished from her locked room, leaving fragments of the Monocle, and feared the house was dangerous. Maeve then saw Dorothea in a window’s reflection, where she warned that danger was beside Maeve.

  • Simon told Maeve that Dorothea had disappeared from her locked room and that he had found fragments of the Monocle on her desk.
  • Simon warned that the house might be malicious and urged everyone to investigate before dawn.
  • Maeve fell into a strange trance, began transforming into a fur-covered monster, and was awakened by Simon at the cost of blood running from his eyes.
  • Flora told Maeve that her visions might contain truth, and Maeve recounted seeing Dorothea in the glass wearing the broken Monocle.
  • Maeve said Dorothea pressed her face against the window, became terrified, and pointed at Maeve while warning of danger beside her.

Ch. 341Do you think you're not hallucinating?

Flora realized that she and the others were trapped in separate illusions, while Elliot hesitated to send Allen back without knowing what was happening inside the house. He turned to Vanessa for help, as Victoria woke in the Library with the sensation that someone was lying on top of her.

  • Flora mistook Allen at the door for a chance to escape the illusion, but he could not hear her and ran away in terror.
  • Flora discovered that she was trapped inside an eye, just as Dorothea had been trapped in Maeve's eye.
  • Elliot determined that Allen had never left the Factory and that the people in the house were likely experiencing different illusions.
  • Elliot looked to [Esoteric Cult Leader Vanessa] as the person he could rely on.
  • Victoria slept in the Library and vaguely felt that someone was lying on top of her.

Ch. 342Mirror Person

Vanessa asked Victoria how to help a friend who had become a Mirror Person, and Victoria explained that the condition came from excessive use of Rationality Mode. Meanwhile, Elsa's corpse emerged from its sealed cabinet at the Factory and headed toward home, leaving Allen worried.

  • Vanessa woke Victoria and told her about Dorothea, Flora, and the others, prompting Victoria to identify the affected friend as a Mirror Person.
  • Victoria explained that prolonged Rationality Mode could trap someone in reflective surfaces and suggested that advancing through a sacrifice might help.
  • Vanessa went back to bed and fell asleep, leaving Victoria frustrated and discovering that her hair had knotted again.
  • Allen watched as Elsa's corpse emerged from its cabinet and walked out of the Factory into the night.
  • Allen saw Elsa heading toward their home and watched with concern.

Ch. 343Where did you say she went?!

Elliot advanced Dorothea through a sacrifice and chose a mirror-travel talent, but she could not emerge from the mirror Elsa prepared. Meanwhile, Sia explored the Dream World and marveled at the Washroom.

  • Elliot had Elsa perform a sacrifice for Dorothea using ritual paint and her clothing as a symbolic link.
  • Elliot advanced Dorothea to the Second Rank and chose [Mirror Secret Art] from her new talents.
  • Elsa prepared a mirror, but Dorothea was unable to step out of it.
  • Sia explored the Dream World after Maeve introduced her to the supernatural world and admired the golden fixtures in the Washroom.

Ch. 344doro

Sia became entranced by a beautiful version of herself in the mirror and believed the transformation would erase her existence. After writing her name on the glass, she saw the name Dorothea appear instead, leaving her uncertain about who she had become.

  • Sia used the golden fountain to wet her hair and saw her reflection transform into a beautiful woman in a long black dress.
  • Sia realized the mirror reflected a different appearance and became captivated by the beauty it showed her.
  • Sia played in the Washroom, then noticed her clothes and hands had changed and feared she had lost herself.
  • Sia thanked the mirror and wrote “Sia (Thea)” on it, expecting it to be her last trace.
  • Sia watched new letters appear before her name, forming “Dorothea.”

Ch. 345Who am I, really?

Sia discovered that she had gained knowledge and an altered body in the Dream World, then woke in the Present World determined to save Flora and Maeve. After the Factory Guard stopped her, she saw that she had returned to her original appearance and heard a voice call her “Sia.”

  • Sia found that Xiao and Maeve were missing and that the Dream World’s residential rooms had no beds.
  • Sia learned that vanished beds meant their owners had returned to the Present World, and she chose to sleep rather than heed a warning against killing herself.
  • Sia woke in a Factory building and rushed out, calling for Flora, Maeve, and Allen and saying she was Dorothea.
  • The Factory Guard stopped Sia, who looked down at her original, frail body before a voice in her heart called her “Sia.”

Ch. 346The Third Law

Dorothea explained to Allen how her Mirror Secret Art carried her physical body into the Dream World, where her Spirit fused with Sia, and learned that she had attacked Flora and Maeve while out of control. At the Difference Engine, Elliot connected Dorothea’s Mirror Person episode to Vanessa’s Spiritification and worried that someone was losing control each day.

  • Dorothea told Allen that her body entered the Dream World through Mirror Secret Art and fused with Sia, though she was unsure how her body had changed.
  • Allen told Dorothea that Flora and Maeve were safe and that Dorothea had attacked them while she was out of control as a Mirror Person.
  • Dorothea and Allen recalled the Third Law, that there are no coincidences in the Supernatural, and considered whether she and Sia had a deeper connection that allowed them to fuse.
  • Dorothea explained her situation to Flora and Maeve, saying she could faintly hear and communicate with Sia.
  • Elliot linked Dorothea’s loss of control to Vanessa’s Spiritification and questioned whether someone was losing control every day.

Ch. 347Victoria's Secret History

Vanessa reassured Victoria of their friendship before asking about the losses of control she and Dorothea had experienced. Victoria linked both incidents to the Dream World and took Vanessa to Beneath the Surface to reveal an unrecordable secret about what had happened there.

  • Vanessa woke in Victoria's Library and appeased Victoria's jealousy by insisting that she trusted and valued her.
  • Under the Lord's gaze, Vanessa told Victoria about the losses of control she and Dorothea had experienced a day apart.
  • Victoria judged the timing abnormal and prompted Vanessa to identify the Dream World as the connection between her [Spiritification] and Dorothea's [Mirror Person].
  • Victoria took Vanessa to a place in Beneath the Surface where their conversation would leave no record in the Present World.
  • Victoria announced that something had happened to the Dream World and prepared to share a secret history that could not be recorded.

Ch. 348Turmoil in the Dream World

Victoria told Vanessa that turmoil in the Dream World was affecting reality and warned her to avoid dreams while the boundary between the Surface Zone and Deep Zone blurred. Elliot realized the crisis explained Vanessa and Dorothea’s loss of control, then began planning restrictions for his believers and feared Elsa Ramsey might be next.

  • Victoria told Vanessa that the Festival’s insufficient tribute had forced His Majesty to cut advancement sacrifices and nearly caused a disaster.
  • Victoria warned Vanessa that Dream Creatures could cross into the Surface Zone and trap anyone they killed in a dream, and advised her not to enter dreams.
  • Victoria asked Vanessa to stay with her while she monitored Vanessa’s unstable condition.
  • Elliot read Victoria’s conversation on the Difference Engine and concluded that Dream World turmoil had caused Vanessa’s and Dorothea’s abilities to distort.
  • Elliot planned to limit his believers’ use of their abilities and looked at Elsa Ramsey’s corpse, suspecting she might lose control next.

Ch. 349Something Had Gone Wrong

Elliot discovered that Elsa’s resurrection might be affected by the Dream World’s instability and sent her corpse into her dream to investigate. Elsa found that her resurrection materials were not being absorbed and confronted an unusually active Lord of Dreams, whose arrival left her in immediate danger.

  • Elliot worried that the unstable Dream World had disrupted Elsa’s resurrection and sent two of her corpse Cards into her dream.
  • Elsa woke inside the cabinet that her dream treated as her bed, beside a box containing most of her remains.
  • Elsa placed supernatural materials in the box but found that they were not being absorbed, confirming that something had gone wrong.
  • A Lord of Dreams tore a rift open and began forcing its way into Elsa’s dream.
  • Elsa attacked the Lord of Dreams with [Spirituality Pressure], but the power had no effect.

Ch. 350Victoria, Can I Bring a Friend Over?

Elsa discovered that the Lord of Dreams had been killed when its rift closed after she left the dream, and she noticed its power flowing into her box. Vanessa then asked Victoria to let her friend Elsa come over, and a maid brought Elsa’s box to the library.

  • Elliot had Elsa leave the dream by suicide after her abilities failed to stop the Lord of Dreams, then learned that the creature had died.
  • Elliot sent Elsa back into the dream, where she found the Lord of Dreams’ corpse split in two by the vanished rift.
  • Elsa noticed white lights rising from the Lord of Dreams’ corpse and falling into her box, suggesting it was absorbing the creature’s power.
  • Vanessa asked Victoria for permission to bring a friend to the library, and Victoria reluctantly agreed.
  • A maid brought Elsa’s box to Victoria and Vanessa.

Ch. 351Don't eat my friend

Victoria examined Elsa’s corpse and found no spirituality, then put Vanessa to sleep for psychoanalysis. Meanwhile, Elliot learned that Sidney had rejected his visit and that his father was away on an expedition, leaving him without either source of answers about the festival.

  • Victoria opened Elsa’s box to check for spirituality, and Vanessa warned her not to eat the corpse.
  • Victoria found Elsa’s remains ordinary, tied Vanessa up with her hair, and conducted another psychoanalysis session.
  • Vanessa let Victoria hypnotize her, and Victoria found no abnormalities before Vanessa fell asleep.
  • Victoria reexamined Elsa’s corpse and wondered why Vanessa had brought it and where she had learned about eating corpses.
  • The Old Butler told Elliot that Sidney had returned his visiting card and refused to receive him while confined.
  • Elliot decided to ask his father about the festival, but the Old Butler said the Old Duke had gone on an expedition.
