Background / History

Gu Yue arrives at East Sea Academy seeking enrollment in Wu Zhangkong's class. To prove herself, she duels Yao Xuan; the battle ends in a draw after she displays control of earth, water, wind, and fire. Wu Zhangkong accepts her into First Grade Class Five after she identifies her Martial Soul as the Elemental Envoy 62 64.

During their first battle, Gu Yue recognizes Yao Xuan's Ancestral Dragon aura as the Dragon God's aura. Her memories include having once lived with Yao Xuan for two years under the name Na'er, before Na'er's personality separated from her 63. This belief drives Gu Yue to investigate Yao Xuan's identity, including inviting him to her home during winter break 90 103.

At her home in Heaven Dou City, Gu Yue introduces Yao Xuan to the forces supporting her and later brings him to the Spirit Pagoda. Her teacher is revealed as Heavenly Phoenix Douluo Leng Yaozhu, the Spirit Pagoda's Deputy Pagoda Master 160 169 174.

Gu Yue later confronts her resentment toward humanity and expresses a desire to create artificial Soul Spirits so humans and Soul Beasts can coexist peacefully. Yao Xuan's support helps her begin resolving this emotional conflict 285 286.
