Background / History
Ancient Activities
Kenjaku comes from the same ancient era as Tengen and has survived for over a thousand years by replacing failing bodies through brain transplantation. Each possession appropriates the host’s body, memories, and life 68.
Kenjaku created Choso and his eight brothers using a cursed spirit and a human woman, then sealed them as cursed objects for a hundred years. Kenjaku also arranged incarnation opportunities for sorcerers such as Hajime Kashimo, recruiting them into the eventual Culling Game 196 260.
Possession of Nagayumi Jin
Qingxiao encounters Kenjaku immediately after the takeover of Nagayumi Jin. Still reading Jin’s memories, Kenjaku attempts to impersonate him and exploit his friendship with Qingxiao to gather information. The unfamiliar behavior, forehead stitches, and a question about Jin’s final words expose the impersonation 61.
The ensuing battle reveals the drawbacks of the rushed possession: Kenjaku’s experience far exceeds the new body’s physical development and sluggish cursed energy pathways. Qingxiao interrupts an attempted Domain Expansion and maintains close-range pressure, forcing Kenjaku to rely on healing and evasive technique combinations 62 63.
After killing an intervening Jujutsu High student and acquiring Metal Manipulation, Kenjaku feigns exhaustion to ambush Qingxiao with gravity and metal attacks. The apparent victory collapses when Qingxiao awakens Reverse Cursed Technique. With cursed energy running low, Kenjaku escapes through a sewer 64 65 66 67.
Tengen subsequently identifies Kenjaku and confirms that Jin’s soul is completely gone. Qingxiao vows to kill Kenjaku and eventually reclaim Jin’s body for burial 68 72.
Shibuya Preparations
Kenjaku schedules the Shibuya operation for October 31. The announced objective is to restrain Gojo and Qingxiao long enough to revive Sukuna, assigning the Four Calamities to Qingxiao while personally taking responsibility for Gojo. Privately, Kenjaku regards Sukuna’s revival as bait for a much larger project: creating a cursed spirit fused from all humanity 147.
Mahito’s report of Qingxiao’s soul-damaging attacks forces a change of plans. Kenjaku cancels the proposed Exchange Event invasion in favor of a stealth infiltration with Mahito; six Sukuna fingers and the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings are subsequently reported stolen from Jujutsu High 157 160.
During the confrontation involving Mechamaru, Kenjaku erases sensitive information from his memory. Qingxiao breaks into the Curtain, prompting Kenjaku to escape underground with Mahito. Their flight through waterways leads Kenjaku to revise the Shibuya plan again and consider targeting Shoko Ieiri 163 164.
Shibuya and the Culling Game
Kenjaku’s attempted hostage scheme fails because Shoko has already been placed somewhere secure. Qingxiao falsely claims she is abroad with Yuki Tsukumo, concealing her actual refuge in the Tombs of the Star Corridor, and destroys Kenjaku’s clone 168 169.
Other diversions remain effective. A powerful clone occupies Gojo, while the Séance Technique brings back Toji Fushiguro to intercept Qingxiao. Qingxiao eventually realizes that the real targets are Yuji Itadori and the Sukuna contained within him 171.
Kenjaku overwhelms the exhausted Itadori and Choso, then forces Itadori to swallow ten fingers, awakening Sukuna with sixteen fingers’ worth of power. As Sukuna heads toward Gojo and Qingxiao, Kenjaku begins activating the Culling Game with a Cursed Spirit Orb 178.
Although Gojo and Qingxiao defeat Sukuna, they fail to intercept Kenjaku. They find only a phone recording explaining the game’s rules. Tengen later reveals the intended outcome: use the game to select sorcerers, catalyze cursed energy’s evolution, awaken cursed energy throughout humanity, and merge humanity with Tengen 182 187.
Alliance with Sukuna and Death
Kenjaku and Sukuna challenge Gojo and Qingxiao to a decisive battle in Shinjuku one month later. When Sukuna admits their current strength is insufficient, Kenjaku proposes giving him the Copy-bearing body, its nearly thousand techniques—including Limitless—and four remaining Sukuna fingers. Kenjaku would first transplant the brain into another host, leaving Sukuna to repair the empty vessel with Reverse Cursed Technique 245.
During preparations, Kenjaku supports Sukuna’s technique testing and agrees to handle the other special-grade opponents while Sukuna fights Gojo and Qingxiao. Sukuna also agrees to eliminate the Culling Game players afterward, advancing Kenjaku’s merger plan 247 248.
At the final confrontation, Kenjaku faces Suguru Geto, Yuki Tsukumo, Yuta Okkotsu, and Hajime Kashimo. Position-swapping, gravity, cursed spirits, and an Open Domain delay the group, but the domain clash triggers burnout and gives Kashimo an opening 269 272 273 274.
The four ultimately exhaust Kenjaku’s cursed energy and counter the technique repertoire, while Yuta copies almost all of it. Geto orders Jogo to use Maximum: Meteor while other cursed spirits restrain Kenjaku. The attack destroys Kenjaku’s body along with Hanami, Dagon, and several of Geto’s other spirits 290.
Before consciousness collapses, Kenjaku makes a final binding vow: in exchange for being unable to reincarnate for sixty-eight years, the remaining soul will follow Sukuna until he completes the merger of Tengen and humanity. A soul fragment escapes toward the main battlefield, unseen by the victorious group 290.
Appearance
- Forehead stitches: Every possessed body bears an unerasable ring of stitches across the forehead 68.
- Nagayumi Jin’s appearance: Retains Jin’s face and build, but lacks the vitality Qingxiao associates with his friend 61.
- Build: Described as tall and thin during the Shibuya Incident 177.
- Clothing: Wears a light gray trench coat during a planning meeting, monk’s robes in the underground hideout, and a hood at the final confrontation 147 157 269.
Personality
Kenjaku’s confidence rests on a millennium of experience. Even after being seriously injured, Kenjaku initially treats the situation as manageable and openly acknowledges mistakes without losing faith in personal superiority. Sustained pressure from Qingxiao eventually replaces that arrogance with caution 62 63.
Deception is a routine tool rather than a last resort. Kenjaku impersonates Jin, feigns near-death exhaustion to create an opening, exploits Choso’s desire for revenge, and attempts to use Shoko as leverage. Allies are valued for their usefulness; even the badly wounded Mahito is regarded as a tool beyond repair 61 65 167 169 177 178.
Qingxiao also provokes genuine intellectual excitement. Kenjaku views him as an anomaly outside the patterns that have governed jujutsu history, considering him even more interesting than Sukuna. That fascination survives repeated disruptions of the plan 157 169.
At death, Kenjaku feels little fear. The dominant regret is not living to witness humanity’s merger with Tengen, an obsession strong enough to motivate the final soul-binding vow 290.
Abilities & Skills
Brain Transplant Technique
Kenjaku’s original innate technique enables survival through successive hosts 68.
- Replaces the host’s brain to possess the body and obtain its memories and cursed technique.
- Leaves permanent forehead stitches.
- Can be used when a body ages, approaches death, or is destroyed.
- Does not preserve Nagayumi Jin’s soul; Tengen confirms that no trace remains after possession.
- A rushed transfer can leave Kenjaku unable to use the new body effectively 61 62 68.
Copy
Inherited from Nagayumi Jin, Copy acquires cursed techniques through consumption of body parts 68 264.
- Acquisition method: Eats tissue containing another person’s technique. Kenjaku obtains Metal Manipulation by consuming its user’s heart 64 248.
- Harvesting incarnation players: Takes body parts while contracted players are unconscious and not fully revived, then heals them by outputting Reverse Cursed Technique 248.
- Scale: Claims nearly a thousand copied techniques, including Limitless 147 245.
- Quality limitation: The acquired Water Flow technique is initially incomplete and weak 63.
| Copied Technique | Demonstrated Applications |
|---|---|
| Water Flow | Creates water whips, blades, and interlocking currents to restrict movement. Performs substantially better with abundant environmental water 63 66. |
| Gravity | Produces localized crushing pressure to pin opponents down, slow advances, and complement metal projectiles 65 66 272. |
| Metal Manipulation | Controls nearby wreckage and metal fragments for bombardments and combined attacks 65 67. |
| Boogie Woogie | Exchanges positions through clapping, redirecting coordinated attacks and moving between opponents and cursed spirits 272 273. |
| Blood Manipulation | Forms a sharp blood blade to intercept Yuta’s katana 273. |
| Cursed Spirit Manipulation | Deploys swarms of cursed spirits. Geto can seize the Grade 1 spirits using Subjugating Tamed Cursed Spirit 272. |
| Ten Shadows | Summons shikigami including Max Elephant, Divine Dogs, and Tiger Funeral before Domain Expansion 273. |
| Séance Technique | Summons Toji Fushiguro as a diversion against Qingxiao 171. |
| Limitless | Explicitly named among the stored techniques offered to Sukuna; no direct use by Kenjaku is shown in the supplied passages 245. |
Open Domain
Kenjaku uses an Open Domain introduced as Womb Burial Across the Wilds and later invoked as Womb Profusion 62 64 273.
- Its sure-hit attack instantly kills the intervening Semi-Grade 1 student 64.
- Qingxiao survives with Simple Domain and escapes before that protection is eroded 64.
- Its activation can be interrupted before completion, as Qingxiao demonstrates with a thrown utility pole 62.
- The later manifestation features an enormous tower of fused, wailing cursed-spirit faces 273.
- Dispelling the domain or suffering a domain clash causes cursed technique burnout. The first documented burnout lasts approximately two minutes 64 65 274.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Kenjaku possesses exceptionally advanced self-healing and can also output healing to others 65 248.
- Repeatedly repairs shattered limbs, severe abdominal damage, and other injuries inflicted by Qingxiao 65.
- Regrows an arm during the final battle, though opponents can exploit the interval before regeneration finishes 273.
- Healing slows sharply as cursed energy approaches exhaustion 290.
- Does not prevent death when the body is destroyed by Maximum: Meteor 290.
Barrier Techniques and Concealment
Kenjaku’s barrier mastery is assessed as comparable to Tengen’s 160.
- Breaches the Cursed Tool Repository’s defenses without sounding an alarm 160.
- Arranges Shibuya’s barrier nodes and creates large Curtains 147 163.
- Seals an abandoned stadium for Sukuna’s training 247.
Clones and Memory Alteration
- Clones: Creates doubles for diversions, reconnaissance, and escape. Qingxiao identifies the Gojo-fighting clone as containing a severed portion of Kenjaku’s original consciousness 164 169 171.
- Memory alteration: Removes Mechamaru’s knowledge of the Shibuya plan, leaving him able to warn Qingxiao of its existence but not explain the details 163 164.
Combat Experience and Cursed Energy Control
A thousand years of practice gives Kenjaku precise defensive movement, efficient energy expenditure, and the ability to coordinate multiple techniques 63 66.
- Minimizes incoming impact through small movements rather than relying solely on durability 63.
- Retains roughly two-thirds of the cursed energy reserve during an early prolonged exchange despite Qingxiao’s expectation of rapid depletion 63.
- Combines water, gravity, and metal techniques to maintain distance when close combat becomes untenable 66.
- Remains limited by the host body’s development and by the cumulative cost of healing, domains, and sustained technique use 62 66 290.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Sukuna’s fingers — Forces ten into Itadori during Shibuya; later reveals possession of Sukuna’s four missing fingers 178 245.
- Cursed Spirit Orb — Used to begin activating the Culling Game, a process Kenjaku expects to take eight minutes 178.
- Collected cursed tools — Offers Sukuna access to tools accumulated over a thousand years; the proposal does not identify individual weapons 245.
- Recorded rules explanation — Leaves a phone containing an organized video introduction to the Culling Game after escaping Shibuya 182.
Relationships
- Nagayumi Jin — Possession victim and source of Copy. Jin’s death creates Qingxiao’s enduring personal vendetta 61 68.
- Guyue Qingxiao — Enemy and object of fascination. Kenjaku acknowledges that appearing before him would endanger the Shibuya operation because their feud will end only with death 147 157.
- Tengen — Contemporary from the ancient era and indispensable target of the intended merger 68 187.
- Ryomen Sukuna — Strategic ally. Kenjaku supplies fingers, offers a technique-rich vessel, and entrusts completion of the merger to him through the final binding vow 178 245 248 290.
- Satoru Gojo — Major obstacle whom Kenjaku assigns a clone to occupy while pursuing Itadori 147 171.
- Mahito — Infiltration partner and ultimately expendable asset. Kenjaku escapes with him underground but later begins refining him after his defeat 157 163 177 178.
- Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon — Allies recruited to restrain Qingxiao under the promise of Sukuna’s revival. All three later fight against Kenjaku under Geto’s control; Jogo delivers the fatal attack 147 273 290.
- Choso — One of the nine brothers Kenjaku created. Kenjaku manipulates his desire for revenge before Choso turns against the scheme to protect Itadori 167 178 260.
- Yuji Itadori — Targeted as Sukuna’s vessel and forcibly fed ten fingers to trigger the revival 178.
- Hajime Kashimo — Receives an incarnation opportunity from Kenjaku, then joins the group responsible for Kenjaku’s defeat 196 269 290.
- Suguru Geto, Yuki Tsukumo, and Yuta Okkotsu — Final opponents alongside Kashimo. Geto directs the finishing attack, while Yuta copies almost all of Kenjaku’s repertoire during the battle 269 290.
