Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Historical Kamo Clan host — Blood Manipulation 255 320 Acquired the clan’s inherited technique by possessing a former clan head. Retained it after abandoning that body.
Kaori Itadori host — Anti-Gravity 235 255 Gained Kaori’s innate technique while retaining Blood Manipulation and the core Brain Transplant technique. Used gravity through Cursed Technique Reversal.
Suguru Geto host — Cursed Spirit Manipulation 89 255 290 In an earlier simulation, possessed Geto after his death and confronted Li Shunchen at his grave. Displayed the open domain Womb Profusion. This is an alternate-timeline acquisition, not a later step in the collaboration timeline.
Li Shunchen host — access to his innate technique 357 A retrospective account confirms that Kenjaku killed Li and replaced his brain in a failed simulation. Taking the body granted its innate technique, but Kenjaku still had to understand and learn to use its powers.

Background / History

Kenjaku survived across a thousand years by repeatedly replacing other people’s brains and occupying their bodies. Unlike preservation as a dormant cursed object, this method allowed continuous consciousness and intervention in history 255 266.

Beginning as far back as the Heian Era, Kenjaku established Binding Vows with powerful sorcerers from different eras. These agreements offered future incarnation in exchange for participation in a later plan. Reggie Star was among those converted into Incarnation Cursed Objects 266 376.

While possessing a historical Kamo Clan head, Kenjaku experimented with combining humans and cursed spirits, producing the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings. Kenjaku regarded the results as unsatisfactory and eventually abandoned that identity, carrying Blood Manipulation into subsequent hosts 320 374.

Kenjaku later occupied Kaori Itadori’s body and became Yuji Itadori’s biological mother. Yuji was deliberately created as an extraordinary vessel capable of containing—and suppressing—Ryomen Sukuna. The precise methods used to create him remain undisclosed 296 308 386.

Appearance

  • Forehead stitches: The recurring identifying feature across Kenjaku’s assumed identities 266 373.
  • Kaori Itadori’s body: A female host with a delicate face and smooth black hair, used during the later collaboration with Li Shunchen 373 398 399.
  • True surviving body: A brain that depends on Brain Transplant to control its host 373.

Personality

Kenjaku pursues knowledge and human evolution without treating human life as a moral restraint. Ancient sorcerers, modern vessels, cursed spirits, and entire populations are evaluated as experimental materials or resources. Li Shunchen considers Kenjaku openly evil rather than someone who disguises cruelty as benevolence 278 391.

Curiosity frequently outweighs pride. After Li immobilizes and humiliates Kenjaku, the prospect of an unprecedented experiment matters more than the loss of dignity. Learning that Li wants to place himself at the center of the assimilation produces excitement rather than rejection 373 375.

Kenjaku combines patience with a willingness to revise plans. Preparations span centuries, yet useful discoveries—particularly Idle Transfiguration and Li’s copied techniques—are readily incorporated. Kenjaku also recognizes emotional weaknesses, correctly identifying Li’s attachment to his Jujutsu High companions beneath his utilitarian explanations 376 386 393.

Abilities & Skills

Brain Transplant

Kenjaku’s core cursed technique enables long-term survival through body theft 255.

  • Inherits the occupied body’s innate cursed technique.
  • Can retain a technique acquired from a previous host, as demonstrated by Blood Manipulation in Kaori’s body.
  • Does not automatically confer mastery of a stolen body’s abilities; Kenjaku must learn to use them 357.
  • Depends on an active connection to the host. Li’s nullification of Brain Transplant removes Kenjaku’s motor control; complete nullification could also isolate the brain from the host’s senses 373.

Blood Manipulation

Acquired from the historical Kamo Clan host and retained after changing bodies 255 320.

  • Controls blood flow to harden skin and muscles defensively 235.
  • Combines ranged blood attacks with the gravity produced by Anti-Gravity’s reversal 273.
  • Was copied directly by Li Shunchen before Kenjaku’s death in the sixth simulation 320.

Anti-Gravity and Cursed Technique Reversal

Originally belonged to Kaori Itadori’s body. Kenjaku uses both antigravity and its reversed gravitational effect in combat 235 255.

  • Can combine gravitational effects with Blood Manipulation 273.
  • Remains distinct from Brain Transplant and the retained Kamo technique 255.

Barrier Techniques

Kenjaku possesses approximately a millennium of barrier research and can recognize extremely advanced spatial folding, cursed-energy weaving, and barrier conditions 373.

  • Plans to modify Tengen’s existing nationwide barriers into the Culling Game’s ritual framework 376.
  • Explains how barriers can carry and extend cursed techniques rather than merely conceal or defend 393.
  • Teaches Li to use Tengen’s barriers as an amplifier for remotely applying Idle Transfiguration to marked targets across Japan 393.
  • Maintains a fallback plan to awaken ancient incarnations through forced barrier resonance without Idle Transfiguration 393.

Domain Expansion: Womb Profusion

Displayed while occupying Suguru Geto in an earlier simulation 89.

  • Projects into the surrounding cemetery without constructing a physically enclosed shell.
  • Its underlying operation strikes Li as fundamentally different from Cursed Spirit Manipulation 89.

Incarnation and Soul Research

Kenjaku prepares ancient sorcerers for modern resurrection through cursed objects, suitable vessels, and Binding Vows 266 391.

  • Searches Japan for compatible vessels and implants Incarnation Cursed Objects 391.
  • Distinguishes dormant ancient souls from modern people whose latent techniques cannot manifest because of their brain structure 393.
  • Identifies Idle Transfiguration as a means to awaken both groups simultaneously 393.
  • Concludes with Li that Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirits cannot be reliably mass-produced 391 394.

Strategy and Manipulation

  • Coordinates contracts with sorcerers and cursed spirits across centuries 266.
  • Maintains concealed connections reaching foreign governments 396.
  • Exploits Jujutsu High’s desire to protect Yuji so its sorcerers will collect Sukuna’s fingers on Kenjaku’s behalf 398.
  • Judges recruits by practical value rather than cursed-energy quantity alone, including exceptional non-sorcerers 373.

Plans and Objectives

Forced Assimilation

Kenjaku’s ultimate objective is to force Japan’s population to assimilate with Tengen, producing an unprecedented being beyond ordinary humans and cursed spirits 276 374.

Component Intended function
Failed Star Plasma Vessel assimilation Causes Tengen to evolve toward a cursed-spirit-like existence 276 376.
Toji Fushiguro His complete absence of cursed energy could break the causal bond linking Tengen, the Star Plasma Vessel, and the Six Eyes 276.
Suguru Geto’s body Supplies Cursed Spirit Manipulation to control the evolved Tengen 276 386.
Culling Game Uses lethal combat to refine participants’ souls and generate the enormous cursed-energy surge needed for assimilation 376 393.
Idle Transfiguration Provides an efficient method of activating modern sorcerers and ancient incarnations; improves the plan but is not indispensable to starting it 393.
Prison Realm Intended to remove Satoru Gojo from combat through sealing 376 400.
Yuji Itadori and Sukuna Serve as a vessel and potential overwhelming ally against Gojo; neither is strictly required to operate the assimilation ritual 386.
Foreign intervention Brings additional people into the barriers as ritual fuel and generates fear that Tengen’s barrier can draw toward Japan 395 396.

In the partnership timeline, Kenjaku accepts a revision placing Li Shunchen, rather than Tengen, at the center of the final entity. Kenjaku recommends occupying Tengen’s evolved body because it is better suited than an ordinary human body to bearing the influx of souls and cursed energy 375.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Incarnation Cursed Objects — Ancient sorcerers preserved for implantation into modern vessels 266 391.
  • Sukuna’s Fingers — Central resources for restoring Sukuna; collected jointly with Li during their preparations 394 398.
  • Contracted cursed spirits — A stockpile exceeding one million. Their release upon Kenjaku’s death confirms Li’s knowledge of another timeline 375.
  • Prison Realm — The sealing object selected for neutralizing Satoru Gojo 376 400.

Relationships

  • Li Shunchen — Enemy and killer in earlier simulations; Binding Vow partner in the later timeline. Kenjaku teaches him barrier applications while probing his loyalties and considering contingencies against him 357 375 386 393.
  • Yuji Itadori — Biological son through Kaori’s body and a deliberately engineered vessel for Sukuna. Kenjaku exploits his kindness to advance Sukuna’s incarnation 296 308 399.
  • Ryomen Sukuna — Ancient pact partner and prospective ally against Gojo. Sukuna accepted preservation as a cursed object to fight powerful opponents in the future 345 386.
  • Suguru Geto — Intended possession target because of Cursed Spirit Manipulation. Li repeatedly prevents Kenjaku from taking his body early 386 392.
  • Tengen — The central target and infrastructure provider for the assimilation plan. Kenjaku seeks to obstruct Tengen’s assimilation and exploit the resulting evolution 276 376.
  • Satoru Gojo — A major obstacle requiring sealing or a counterforce such as Sukuna 386 400.
  • Toji Fushiguro — Intended agent for disrupting the Star Plasma Vessel’s assimilation; Li kills and impersonates him before taking over that task 276 376.
  • Reggie Star — Contracted ancient sorcerer promised another life in exchange for joining Kenjaku’s future plan 266.
  • Mahito — Valued chiefly for Idle Transfiguration’s compatibility with awakening Culling Game players 392 393.
  • Jogo, Hanami, and Dagon — Special Grade Cursed Spirits approached as potential collaborators 391 400.
  • Time Vessel Association — An organization influenced by Kenjaku; Li expects it to decline without Kenjaku’s guidance 287.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Earlier Simulations and Exposure

Li first truly encounters Kenjaku during a visit to Suguru Geto’s grave, discovering that the ancient curse user has occupied his deceased student’s body. A later recollection confirms that Kenjaku also killed Li and stole his body in a failed simulation 290 357.

In another simulation, Li traces the conspiracy through Yuji Itadori and clashes with Kenjaku alongside Special Grade threats. These experiences expose the connections among Kaori’s body, Sukuna’s vessel, the ancient incarnations, and Kenjaku’s accumulated techniques 235 255 296 392.

Death in the Sixth Simulation

Li kills Kenjaku while the curse user is occupying Kaori Itadori. The death disrupts preparations, releases contracted cursed spirits, and prematurely triggers ancient incarnations. Li initially considers whether these disasters are retaliation, but concludes that the broader collapse was probably uncontrolled rather than a deliberate trap 266 398.

Sukuna also awakens early inside young Yuji. Li infers that Kenjaku had prepared a seal or contingency connected to her destruction, while Yuji’s pre-existing suppressive constitution keeps Sukuna imprisoned 307 308.

Binding Vow Partnership

In the later timeline, Li confronts Kenjaku at her residence and demonstrates that he can nullify Brain Transplant. Rather than kill her, he reveals knowledge from alternate timelines and proposes using the assimilation to gather the world’s curses into himself 373 374.

Kenjaku accepts. Their agreement places Li at the plan’s center, while his restrictions require Kenjaku to plan without relying on him and to leave Geto untouched before the operation begins 375 386 393.

Nationwide and International Preparations

Li eventually supplies copied Idle Transfiguration, replacing the role Kenjaku would otherwise have sought through Geto and Mahito. Together they mark future players, inspect incarnation vessels, collect cursed spirits, and successfully test remote soul alteration through barriers 393 394.

The pair then secure American cooperation in hunting Japanese sorcerers and spread fear among nearby Asian governments. Later, they stage the circumstances leading Yuji to consume a finger and meet the Special Grade Cursed Spirits to discuss sealing Gojo and recruiting Sukuna 396 399 400.

Notable Quotes

“The birth and flow of cursed energy follow strict laws.” 375

“Tengen’s barriers are a ready-made, perfect breeding ground. All I need to do is introduce my rules into his existing barriers and make a few adjustments, and all of Japan will instantly become an enormous Gu Poison Cauldron.” 376

“If that really is the case, planning to burn them up as fuel while subconsciously doing everything you can to prolong their lives... you really are twisted.” 386
