Background / History
Nearly nine hundred years before his awakening, Xia Yi transmigrated to the Saint Soul Continent as a newborn in the Xia Family, a clan of ducal and marquis rank. He was the fifth child of his generation. His third brother, Xia Shun, was his only sibling who shared both parents 10.
Shortly before Xia Yi’s birth, the family’s eldest mother attempted to kill seven-year-old Xia Shun by having a woodshed set alight beneath him. Xia Shun escaped using two bamboo hats and awakened Hat-to-Wings, becoming the first human to create a five-star Saint Soul outright. Their father named Xia Yi with the character meaning “wings” to commemorate the event 10.
Xia Yi used memories from his previous life to expand the family’s shops throughout human territory. His promotion of mink coats and cigarettes made them fashionable, drove up mink-pelt prices, and encouraged extensive hunting of mink demons. This commercial campaign brought the Mink Clan close to extinction and allowed him to comprehend Xia Yi’s Minks-Banishing 7 10.
He also gave Chisel the Wall to Steal Light to Xia Shun as a betrothal gift when their eldest mother refused to fund his marriage proposal to a daughter of the Song Family. Xia Shun later became humanity’s youngest King, elevating the Xia Family’s standing 10 16.
During his earlier life, Xia Yi taught at the Holy Academy, founded humanity’s first pleasure house, created the Beauty Register, and won one of the heaven-bestowed Human Race 108 Stars 20 22 32.
He was buried at eighty-seven after suffering injuries that nearly killed him and severely shortened his lifespan. Turtle Lives Long sustained an eight-hundred-year sleep with almost no further loss of lifespan. When he emerged, his mausoleum had become a solitary wilderness grave, and the Xia Family survived through descendants whose inheritance attracted powerful enemies 1 10 39 46.
Appearance
Xia Yi appears as an elderly man with white hair and white eyebrows; after bathing and changing clothes, he describes himself as a clean, handsome old man 2 10.
- Initial clothing: Burial robes, with no shoes 1 5.
- Usual accessory: A bamboo hat used with Hat-to-Wings 3 12.
- Bearing: Can appear remarkably composed, seeming to blend into the surrounding street and sky 12.
- Battle appearance: His hair and beard become blood-red during his fight with Luo Ti 23.
- Possible rejuvenation: After his recovery in Chapter 40, he believes nourishing his body with Saint Soul power could change his apparent age from roughly seventy to fifty; this is presented as a possibility, not a completed transformation 40.
Personality
Xia Yi is playful, shameless, and fond of unsettling other people. He frightens Zhou Xiaoxian by climbing back into his coffin, repeatedly teases Shi Lai through quests and promised rewards, and openly admits that he is petty when refusing flower names to two women who insulted him 1 4 20 28.
As a teacher, he combines blunt criticism with affection. He tells Zhou Xiaoxian exactly how she mishandled earlier conflicts, but emphasizes that she is only fifteen and needs experience rather than condemnation. He encourages her to think independently and treats setbacks as part of growing up 13 31.
His concern for his disciples coexists with ruthless planning. He rejects excuses for harming innocent people, yet uses deception, staged weakness, and political pressure against enemies. Although he engineers Feng Shuhu and Xu Zhou’s deaths, the surrounding soldiers survive, leading Song Qu to suspect deliberate restraint 19 21 43 44 46.
Abilities & Skills
Exploration System
A gift accompanying Xia Yi’s transmigration, the Exploration System studies Saint Souls and allows him to synthesize them or exchange exploration progress for Saint Soul experience 8.
- Repeated exposure to Shi Lai’s Detection Art provides enough progress to synthesize it 5 6 8.
- Encountering an already mastered Saint Soul can automatically yield experience instead 27.
- Its original functions do not include resurrection, save reloading, an affection system, or a quest system 8.
Player Recognition and Interface Manipulation
Xia Yi recognizes player mechanics through observation and knowledge from his previous life. He identifies Shi Lai’s Detection Art, save reloading, and quest-acceptance functions early in their acquaintance 4.
- Issues and cancels requests that appear as quests on players’ interfaces 4 28 47.
- Uses the Deception Scripture on himself to alter the affinity rating displayed to Shi Lai, eventually producing a misleading “Romantic love” rating 28.
- Recognizes Zhang Duo’er as another player after his system identifies her special Saint Soul, First Model 47.
- By the martial examination, can use Reloading a Save! to rewind Shi Lai’s battles with Feng Mo; the acquisition of this ability is not shown in the supplied passages 34.
Detection Art
A special Saint Soul synthesized through exploration of Shi Lai’s ability 8.
- Displays information such as names, ages, levels, affiliations, Saint Souls, and threat assessments 23 49.
- May leave some information concealed as question marks 23 49.
- Cannot be upgraded 8.
Railroad Speed
A six-star Saint Soul that manifests tracks invisible to others and accelerates movement along them 27 40.
- Greatly shortens the journey to Lieyang City while Xia Yi and Zhou Xiaoxian appear to be walking 11.
- Lets him close on Ma Chen before the latter can react, escaping an encircling control technique 27.
- Accelerates stone projectiles; at sixth-tier Sowing mastery, scattered pebbles become coordinates for an extensive track network 42.
- Has not advanced to seven stars. Xia Yi speculates that building a train might help it evolve 11.
Hat-to-Wings
A five-star Saint Soul originally created by Xia Shun. Xia Yi uses it for flight, rapid movement, and unconventional manipulation 3 10 23.
- Transforms a bamboo hat into black wings; an early flight crosses about one hundred meters in almost a second 3.
- Supports sudden evasions and close-range attacks 4 7.
- Produces white wings on Luo Ti’s saber, dragging his slash off course 23.
- Its five-star rating chiefly reflects its ability to fly rather than exceptional offensive power 21.
Xia Yi’s Minks-Banishing
An exclusive five-star Saint Soul born from Xia Yi’s commercial campaign against mink demons 7.
- Manifests a younger likeness of Xia Yi wearing a white mink coat and smoking a cigarette 7.
- Releases smoke that strengthens Xia Yi while severely weakening demons. Zhou Lizhu loses ninety percent of his strength during their encounter 7.
- Remains insufficient to resolve Zhou Lizhu’s transformation, whose regenerative and death-domain abilities exceed Xia Yi’s initial assessment 8.
Turtle Lives Long
A six-star Saint Soul with longevity and defensive applications 39 40.
- Enables Xia Yi’s eight-hundred-year sleep with almost no loss of lifespan 39.
- Creates protective barriers, including a shield that withstands Luo Ti’s invisible blades 23.
- Does not fully repair the old soul injuries that remain after his awakening 10.
Are Dukes, Marquises, Generals, and Ministers Born to Their Stations?
A six-star Saint Soul jointly awakened by Xia Yi and Chen Guang, accompanied by a continent-wide celestial phenomenon 38.
- Has one stated effect: overthrowing the stronger—its power increases against stronger opponents 39.
- Is described by Xia Yi as especially suited to fighting above one’s rank 39.
- Its condensation helps restore Xia Yi’s effective strength to peak Jade Balance 40.
