Background / History
Family position and pursuit of Zhou Xiaoxian
Feng Mo was the son of Feng Shuhu, Zhi Prefecture’s military governor, and the grandson of Chancellor Han Chuanzhong. His family owned Wangjiang Tower, where he could waive bills and issue orders to the staff 14 36 46.
At the Holy Academy, he helped Zhou Xiaoxian in class and cultivated her trust. She initially believed his explanation that his misconduct was a deliberate effort to tarnish his reputation and prevent the royal family from becoming suspicious of his powerful father 14.
His pursuit of Xiaoxian also served his family’s interests. Xia Yi later explained that Feng Shuhu and the Chancellor’s faction coveted her connection to the Xia Family’s last inheritance and intended to obtain it through marriage to Feng Mo 46.
Conflict with Shi Lai and Xia Yi
Feng Mo first encountered Shi Lai while harassing a young woman in the street. Shi Lai intervened but could not defeat him. Xia Yi secretly assisted Shi Lai’s escape by knocking down a pursuing guard with a cup, then struck Feng Mo’s head with another cup 14.
At Wangjiang Tower, Feng Mo greeted Xiaoxian warmly and offered her and Xia Yi a free meal. After leaving, he correctly identified Xia Yi as the cup-thrower and estimated that he was probably a Four-Star Tianquan expert. Rather than confront him directly, Feng Mo ordered Ding Shan and Ding Yun to investigate his background 14.
When Shi Lai subsequently reached the General’s Residence, Feng Mo ordered his leg broken and had him thrown far away 15.
The investigation brought Xia Yi’s Deception Scripture influence into the household. Ding Shan persuaded Feng Mo to kneel and repeatedly kowtow to a supposed dragon-shaped cloud; Feng Mo then began spreading the same compulsion to others. Feng Shuhu broke the effect and recognized six-star mastery of the scripture 16 17.
Feng Mo also paid Lin Gong a thousand taels to assess Xia Yi. He admitted to his father that Xia Yi would obstruct his pursuit of Xiaoxian. Lin Gong’s subsequent death led Feng Shuhu to attack Xia Yi, only to be knocked into a tavern as Feng Mo watched 17 18 19.
Defeat in the selection contest
During the Holy Academy’s selection for the Four Little Talented Scholars, Feng Mo eagerly sought a match against Shi Lai. His superior swordsmanship initially allowed him to sever Shi Lai’s wrist tendon, and he later stabbed him through the abdomen 34.
Time reversals allowed Shi Lai to learn his attacks. When Shi Lai began anticipating his swordplay, Feng Mo revealed Replace the Beams with Rotten Timber, a technique he had intended to save for Song Ziyu. After another reversal, Shi Lai evaded the substitution attack, exhausted Feng Mo’s resistance, and disarmed him. Feng Mo left the arena in a daze after losing his chance at the top four 34 35.
Seizing a place at the ceremony
Feng Mo returned for the Divine Bestowal Ceremony accompanied by Deputy Commander Xu Zhou. When Guo Da Neng failed to appear, Xu Zhou pressured Luo Ti into holding another contest among the lower four finalists. Feng Mo won and temporarily took Da Neng’s place among the Four Little Talented Scholars 36.
As Luo Ti began his blessing, Xia Yi intervened and claimed the final place himself. Feng Mo accused Xia Yi of stealing his blessing and deceiving Father God. Xu Zhou carried him away before he could disrupt the ceremony further, then prevented him from returning 36 37.
Abuse of Chen Guang and death
Feng Mo went to Wangjiang Tower and ordered the staff to refuse service to Xia Yi and Xiaoxian. He then assaulted Chen Guang, mocked his ruined cultivation, and wiped his shoe on Chen Guang’s head. Trying to provoke a reaction, he revealed that Feng Shuhu had tampered with the medicine Chen Guang once used to remove the Inferior Rat Saint Soul 37.
After Xia Yi helped Chen Guang awaken a new six-star Saint Soul, Chen Guang confronted Feng Mo and his guards. He killed Ding Shan, mortally wounded Ding Hai, and hurled Ding Hai’s spear through Feng Mo’s right leg. Nearby commoners recognized Feng Mo but refused his demands for help 38 39.
Feng Mo begged Lü Ying to save him in exchange for information about Guo Da Neng. She pretended that blood in her eyes prevented her from seeing him, allowing Chen Guang to pin him through the chest with a sharpened mop handle. Before dying, Feng Mo confessed that he had drowned Da Neng in the river 39.
News of his death prompted Feng Shuhu to mobilize troops against Chen Guang and Xia Yi, escalating the conflict that ended in Feng Shuhu’s death 40 41 43.
Appearance
Feng Mo strongly resembles his father, although their eyes are notably different 17.
- Face: Round 14.
- Eyes: Small and frequently narrowed; described as menacing during confrontations 14 30.
- Temporary injury: Wears a head bandage after the cup strike and forced kowtowing incidents 14 16 19.
Personality
Feng Mo presents sharply different faces to different people. He treats Xiaoxian and her master with apparent warmth and courtesy while threatening Shi Lai and privately arranging investigations. His conduct leads Xiaoxian to mistake him for a good person burdened by his family’s political position 14.
He is observant and capable of restraint when facing a stronger opponent. He identifies Xia Yi from the thrown cups, assesses the precision required to strike from several hundred meters away, and rebukes a guard who proposes immediate retaliation. His caution does not stop him from pursuing Xia Yi once he sees him as an obstacle to obtaining Xiaoxian 14 18.
Defeat exposes his entitlement and cruelty. After losing the divine blessing, he blames Xia Yi and abuses Chen Guang to vent his frustration. Even while fleeing for his life, he alternates between offering rewards and threatening bystanders with his father’s retaliation 37 39.
