The night was like water. Looking up at the starry sky, the stars filling the heavens shone with incomparable brilliance.
Jiang Yang and Ania sat atop the dome of Eggshell Garden in the Refuge, gazing up at the river of stars filling the sky.
The slightly cool evening breeze lifted the girl's white skirt, and her long golden-brown hair streamed in the wind. Sitting beside her, Jiang Yang could even smell the pleasant fragrance on her.
"Senior, what do you plan to do after Doomsday ends?"
The radiant girl sat hugging her knees and turned her head slightly to look at the handsome man beside her.
Decades had left his appearance unchanged, as though it had been frozen at the moment of his awakening.
I like Senior so much!
Jiang Yang looked up at the starry sky, a faint smile lifting the corners of his mouth.
"Once the Apocalypse ends, I want to retire to the countryside and quietly watch the newborn human civilization grow!"
"You really are so composed, Senior."
"What about you, Ania?"
"Me? If you want to retire to the countryside, I'd be willing to clean your house, wash your clothes, and cook for you. May I?"
The girl's voice held a trace of sweetness, along with a faint, nervous tremor.
"Ah..."
Jiang Yang felt as though his heart had been struck. He turned his head and saw the anticipation and love in the girl's sky-blue eyes.
He remembered how weak and helpless she had been when he first rescued her.
How steadfast and fearless she had been when she fought alongside him after awakening.
Ania has always stood behind me.
That was what he thought.
Then Jiang Yang looked solemnly at the radiant, breathtakingly beautiful girl before him and nodded earnestly.
"Ania, if you're willing, then be with me once the Apocalypse ends."
"Yes!"
A few years later.
Just as that wise elder had said, after the endless hordes of monsters killed every human before them and devoured their remains, they could no longer find food.
They began to grow restless and agitated, and started devouring the corpses of their own kind.
Great Snowfield Shelter.
Inside Jiang Yang's room.
On the soft, large bed, Jiang Yang woke from his sleep. Looking at Ania, who wore nothing at all and had half her jade-white body nestled in his arms, he smiled helplessly.
After that night, the two had made their relationship official and naturally begun sleeping together.
But today, he could not linger in that tender embrace as he usually did.
He gently withdrew his arm from beneath Ania's snow-white neck, got out of bed, and dressed, preparing to head to the conference room for a meeting.
Today, the seven shelters that were all human civilization had left would hold a meeting to decide its future. As one of the Seven Kings, he had to attend.
Jiang Yang had finished dressing and was just about to leave the room when Ania's sweet, lilting voice came from behind him.
"Senior, is there another meeting?"
Jiang Yang turned and saw Ania propping herself up in bed, rubbing her large, sky-blue eyes.
The covers slid off her onto the bed, revealing the proud curves of her upper body, snow-white and delicate, immediately sending a surge of heat through Jiang Yang's belly.
He suppressed the impulse and quickly turned his head.
"Ania, get dressed before you get up. There's a major meeting of the seven shelters today. It might decide what happens after the Apocalypse. I have to go."
"Heeheehee, Senior, you've seen my body so many times, yet you're still this shy. Go on. I'll sleep a little longer."
"Heh... women."
Inside the vast, spacious conference room, the shelter's administrators had all arrived.
"Jiang Yang, you're here."
"Take a seat. The meeting is about to begin."
Jiang Yang smiled faintly and nodded. Sitting beside the girl in military uniform, he asked in a low voice.
"Xiaowa, what's the main topic of this meeting?"
The girl in military uniform rolled her eyes and said scornfully.
"What, has Lord King Jiang been so caught up in a beautiful girl's tenderness, soft as water, that he couldn't even spare a glance at yesterday's email?"
"Ahem, ahem..."
Caught off guard, Jiang Yang instinctively coughed twice to cover his embarrassment.
Beside them, a man in a white lab coat also began chuckling secretly.
"Qing Fengxi, you've got the nerve to laugh? You're hardly any better. You're not even as good as Jiang Yang. At least he knows to spend time with his girlfriend. What about you? You spend all day and night holed up in that laboratory of yours. Is the laboratory as cute as I am?"
Seeing the handsome man beside her snickering only made Li Xiaowa angrier.
Qing Fengxi immediately froze, breaking out in a cold sweat. He was a researcher; he was no match for Li Xiaowa in a fight.
I'm done for. Am I going to get beaten up when I get home tonight? I've got it so hard.
Fortunately, Li Xiaowa did not continue berating him. Instead, she sent Jiang Yang a message.
Jiang Yang read it carefully, but his brows knitted tightly together.
Just then, the meeting began.
The six large screens opposite them began projecting scenes from the other six shelters.
A white-haired old man appeared on the screen. He was the current director-general of the seven shelters, the leader of human civilization's last hundred thousand people-Chen Ping'an.
"I have some good news for everyone. According to our scans, the Alien Spaceship at the Edge of the Solar System has left. Perhaps they believe that the hundred thousand humans we have left are not enough to keep human civilization going."
"And over these past few years, as you have all seen, the monsters have been unable to find humans and have lost their source of food."
"Some had already returned to the sea. At that rate, sooner or later all the monsters would have returned to the ocean and never appeared again."
The old man paused.
"But something unexpected happened. Perhaps this is the alien civilization's final killing move, intended to wipe us out completely."
"An intelligent monster has been born on the Antarctic Continent. Its energy-level readings far surpass Alpha. We have named it Super Beast Nidhogg!"
"According to our investigations, this Super Beast possesses extremely high intelligence!"
"It is restraining the monsters' desire to return to the sea. It wants the monsters to form a food chain among themselves."
"And it is making them begin eating plants and animals other than humans."
At these words, the entire room erupted.
After all, the surviving humans' hope of the Apocalypse ending lay in these monsters disappearing on their own. If they had to kill them one by one, even ten thousand years might not be enough to wipe them out.
Moreover, those Alpha-class monsters all possessed fighting power on par with the Seven Kings.
Jiang Yang said nothing. His eyes were fixed on the old man on the screen. He knew that this wise man, who had guided human civilization all this time, would surely have a solution.
He was a sage, a prophet!
Sure enough, after letting everyone clamor for a while, the old man lightly tapped the table and spoke calmly.
"Of course there is a way. Don't worry, everyone. This time, as long as we kill this Super Beast, we can truly end the Apocalypse."
"How do we kill it?"
Zeus of the Olympian Shelter asked.
"Gather the fighting strength of all human civilization, deploy the ultimate weapon, Gungnir, and head to the Antarctic Continent to slay it in one stroke! This is the final battle. I have seen it in our future fate: though we will suffer grievous casualties, it will die in the end!"
With that, Chen Ping'an rose to his feet and placed a hand over his chest.
"Everyone, humanity shall never perish, and its radiance shall endure forever!"
Everyone else rose to their feet as well and shouted.
"Humanity shall never perish, and its radiance shall endure forever!"
