Background / History

Apocalypse and awakening

Jiang Yang's recollections describe awakening to power during the apocalypse, fighting undefeated through its battles, and resolving to kill his enemies even at the cost of his own life to preserve humanity's last surviving spark. Ania's near-fatal condition and preservation in ice remained among his most painful memories 50.

After more than a thousand years of frozen sleep, he returned to the Great Snowfield Shelter. Li Xiaowa told him that Yuan Jing and Chen Ping'an had died, only a few hundred people remained in the shelter, and Ania was still frozen. He also learned of the golden-haired, golden-eyed people Chen Ping'an had named the Golden Humans 7.

He later reassured Isa that he had never blamed her for Ania's condition. At Ania's ice coffin, he promised to bring her back and remained beside her for three days and nights 36.

Kunlun and the Fourth Epoch

At the Kunlun Divine Court, Jiang Yang developed his golden divine-bird God Form and continued exploring the mortal world. During one journey, he posed as a wandering swordsman whose home had been destroyed by a powerful beast 37 44.

A journey through the moon took him into the Fourth Epoch, where he lived for years despite only days passing in his original world. Among the angels, he gathered overlooked warriors into a loyal following. After being pronounced guilty, he accepted Satan's assistance, became a fallen angel, and led the Fallen Angels Legion under the identity Lucifer 108 109 118.

Gabriel, whom he regarded as an older sister, repeatedly fought him during this period. As he grew strong enough to defeat her, he remained unwilling to wound her severely. He eventually returned to his own era with black-and-white wings and a small white cat found in the Heavenly Lord's office 109 114 118.

Divine Clan leadership and Mayi World

Jiang Yang placed civilization's survival above individual interests. He publicly compelled the gods to accept Aulisel's proposal and later rebuked Zeus and the Olympians for neglecting their responsibilities while the Divine Clan prepared to resist the Devil Civilization 60 126.

After attaining the Fourth Step, his combined advantages allowed him to rival the Fifth-Step Demon King Leviathan. Against six Demon Kings, he refused surrender even when gravely wounded, awakening his merged light-and-darkness powers and returning to battle 134 153 157.

In Mayi World, he expanded the Bright Land and strengthened himself by slaying Evil Gods. He defeated the Fallen God King Kaerisha after seven days and nights of combat, using nine radiant shadows before gathering their power into his Platinum Longsword 274 275.

His absence from Earth had disastrous consequences. Formations he had established prevented the Divine Clan from intervening in the Bronze People's civil war, which devastated the mortal world. On returning, he agreed to Li Xiaowa's proposal to relocate Mortal Realm powerhouses to Mayi World and restart the human creation plan 293 296.

During the same return, he discovered that Ania's ice coffin had disappeared. A note said she was unharmed and missed him. He eventually suspected that the mysterious person responsible might have come from the future, recognizing similarities to his own Fourth Epoch journey 296 333.

God-Blood lives

Jiang Yang used drops of his God Blood to experience separate lives while his true self continued to exist elsewhere. His first incarnation carried a fragment of his will and consciousness; the memories of his second returned to his true self upon its death 348 403.

Incarnation Life and achievements
Jiang Born to Eighth-Generation Fuxi and a mortal mother. Slew a nine-headed serpent, named Jiang Water, founded the Jiang Tribe, and established Jiang as its children's surname. Passed leadership to his son Jiang Shennong and died of old age at nearly seventy 348 353 357 372 375 376.
White Emperor Shaohao Fought beside Xuanyuan at Zhuolu and helped kill Chiyou despite not being a supernatural being. Appointed ruler of the eastern Dongyi tribes, which rendered his Shaoyang name as Shaohao. Governed through Bird Masters and Bird Officials and later joined the campaign against the four great Fierce Beasts 402 403.
Taiyi Born into a Fire Crow family and used his own God Blood through the Magic Potion Method to develop a Three-Legged Golden Crow body. Helped establish the Demon Race, campaigned against the Devil Clan, and began casting a bell 424 425 428 434 452 453.
Jiang Qi His fourth God-Blood life, born as the son of Lü Shang, also known as Jiang Ziya. The Lü clan remembered him as a peerless master of civil and military affairs and a “War God”; its genealogy recorded that he left no offspring 539 597.

Before his first incarnation died, he instructed Jiang Shennong not to use supernatural power against ordinary mortals. He permitted retaliation against supernatural opponents but insisted that mortal tribespeople be spared that overwhelming disparity in strength 375.

The Immortal Realm and Third Epoch

Following his Seventh-Step breakthrough, Jiang Yang visited the Immortal Realm and reunited with Xuanming at Luofu Immortal Mountain. There he met her master, Gou Daoren, and junior brother, Luo Yunzi 465 498.

As an Eighth-Step cultivator, he investigated Ming Yueye's unusual memories and discovered that her experience originated in his own manipulation of timelines. Judging her character more important than the mechanism of her rebirth, he supported her acceptance into Xuanming's lineage and helped dissolve her unwanted betrothal to Xiao Yi 529 535.

Seeking time to advance before the Apocalypse Epoch, Jiang Yang traveled into the Third Epoch. There, his discussions with the young Tai Shang exposed him to the earliest form of the Immortal Arts and greatly deepened his foundations. He eventually reached the Ninth Step in the Zhou Mountain Royal Court 540 555 567 591.

His time as Demon Emperor also brought personal loss. After Baize was killed by the Nine-Headed Serpent Clan, Jiang Yang buried him, mourned for three days, and promised that Baize's descendants would retain their kingdom with the Demon Court's support 586.

Mortal history and family life

In the Sixth Epoch, Jiang Yang lived among mortals through successive historical ages. He protected Ying Yiren's escape from Zhao, safeguarded Zhao Ji and Ying Zheng, and later secured Ying Zheng's recognition as Qin's eldest legitimate heir 598 599 606.

He worked as a cavalryman, general, physician, farmer, and scholar. At Jingshan Villa, he sheltered people fleeing disorder and destroyed approaching bandits while refusing official appointments. He also befriended Li Bai, secretly taught him a cultivation method, and later heard his regret at abandoning it 629 631 636.

During the fall of the Yuan Dynasty, Jiang Yang and Bai Weiwei raised an army. He founded the Great Ming Dynasty, appointed Bai Weiwei chancellor, and named Zhu Yuanzhang crown prince. His campaigns were marked by personally leading assaults and scaling city walls first 677.

He later lived in Yunhai City as a café owner and the husband of actress Jiang Niya—Ania's mortal identity. They raised Jiang Wang together, deliberately giving him an ordinary childhood despite his exceptional Divine Clan bloodline 697 700 701.

Supreme and the wars through time

After reuniting with Gabriel and Dante, Jiang Yang proposed converting Hell into the All Heavens Prison, with Dante as its first warden. He then planned to return to Earth Space-Time and cultivate inside the Sun to take the final step toward Supreme 713.

As a Supreme, he intervened at the critical moment of humanity's first alien-invasion war, saving Dao Ancestor Taishang and changing history. Following victory, they entered the dimension of time to rescue the Heavenly Lord and Ghost King at later historical battles 768 772 774.

These journeys separated him from his family for immense spans of time. After more than a million years apart, Ania and Xuanming came to a battlefield because it was one of the few places where they could meet him. Jiang Yang comforted them but soon departed again toward the era of the Human Emperor's final struggles 775.

He later created Human Civilization's first Law Weapon, the Divine Emperor Bell, by fusing the Imperial Bell with time-reversal components and refining the result through accelerated time 808.

Appearance

  • Usual form: Tall and handsome, with golden hair, golden eyes, and a youthful appearance despite his immense age 89 118 498.
  • Bearing: His long experience as a sovereign gives him an unmistakable imperial presence, apparent even in casual clothes or while living as a café owner 697 701.
  • Wings: His Fourth Epoch experiences leave him with black-and-white wings. He manifests three pairs when using Immortality; by his later Supreme battles, twelve pairs of holy white wings appear behind him 118 134 409 800.
  • Golden Crow form: A three-legged divine bird with brilliant golden feathers and surrounding golden flames, resembling a small sun in flight 428.
  • Mortal incarnations: His first God-Blood life has black hair in childhood and visibly ages into a white-haired elder 353 375.

Personality

Jiang Yang's defining combat trait is absolute confidence in his own invincibility. He treats victory as the product of accumulated cultivation, will, and technique rather than a miraculous surge of power. Even against stronger opponents, he remains convinced that he will neither lose nor die 153 407.

His gentleness toward companions coexists with forceful leadership. He reassures Isa, accommodates Ania's requests, and protects vulnerable people, but openly threatens opposition when he believes civilization's survival is at stake 36 60 697. He also retains a teasing side, joking with Heracles and mocking Constana's habit of remaining inside her shop 89 250.

He values mortal life precisely because it includes birth, aging, illness, and death. He often lets historical events unfold rather than imposing his will, and explicitly refuses the idea that he should have prevented Ying Yiren's natural death 610 635 675. That restraint has limits: witnessing cannibalism provokes his anger, and threats to people under his immediate protection regularly draw decisive intervention 631 635.

His responsibilities repeatedly conflict with his private life. Although he loves both sons equally, he later feels greatest guilt toward Ania and Xuanming, whose lives are marked by his prolonged absences along the River of Time 700 775.

Abilities & Skills

Swordsmanship and combat instincts

Jiang Yang's greatest natural talent is his combat awareness, honed through his rise from weakness and an undefeated fighting career 89 623.

  • Neutralizes opponents' attacks through precise technique and exploits openings rather than relying solely on strength 89 492.
  • Uses overwhelmingly destructive Sword Qi, including white-gold strikes wrapped in Sun True Fire 490.
  • Transforms his entire Golden Crow body into a gigantic divine sword 48.
  • Retains exceptional effectiveness without supernatural power: fights Chiyou alongside Xuanyuan, defeats Xiang Yu, and confronts a Stone Giant through physique and reflexes 402 623 648.

Forbidden Domain

A will-driven state that raises his combat power beyond its normal limits 20 135.

  • Allows him to fight above his cultivation tier when combined with his other advantages 48 153.
  • Pushes his combat awareness to its peak when he concentrates his essence, energy, spirit, and will 492.
  • Can complement Hymn of Glory, making his additional selves potential users of the same above-tier fighting power 135.

Hymn of Glory

The Fifth Epoch civilization trait connects Jiang Yang's will to the spirits of humanity across that epoch, allowing them to become additional versions of him and fight beside him 134 135.

  • Initially produces two projections; their number can increase with his strength 135.
  • Supplies nine radiant shadows during the battle with Kaerisha; he gathers them into his sword for the finishing blow 275.
  • Later manifests Jiang Yangs throughout space-time in battle against the Pure Yang Dao Lord 511.
  • The deaths of thousands of his versions cause backlash to his body during a later battle 800.

Immortality

His Fourth Epoch civilization trait grants powerful vitality and regeneration, manifested through angelic wings 134 409.

  • At the Fourth Step, provides a limited form of “deathlessness,” not absolute indestructibility 134.
  • Heals the destruction of the left half of his body after Chen Yunfan's spear attack 409.
  • Suppresses injuries caused by the deaths of thousands of his other selves 800.

Sun and Flame Laws

Jiang Yang develops from instinctively wielding the origin fire law to forging an exclusive Flame Law and eventually the Sun Great Dao 230 591.

  • His Sixth-Step sun becomes part of his essence and sustains nearly inexhaustible divine power 330.
  • Can draw upon suns across the Myriad Heavens to empower his sword strikes 492.
  • His Flame Law is not inherently superior to every rival's: the Pure Yang Dao Lord suppresses it during their battle 511.

Illumining the Great Chiliocosm

A divine ability that develops alongside his cultivation and the Bright Land's expansion 274.

  • Initially requires flames as a medium 274.
  • Later lets him appear instantly anywhere illuminated by the sun formed through the Sky Divine Throne 274.
  • From that throne, he can observe the territory covered by its sunlight 274.

Incarnations and time manipulation

Jiang Yang can divide his experiences among God-Blood lives, manifest incarnations across worlds, and eventually operate directly along historical timelines 348 465 529.

  • God-Blood Incarnations live independent lifetimes whose memories can return to his true self 375 403.
  • Seventh-Step cultivation allows countless incarnations to journey through different worlds 465.
  • Eighth-Step cultivation draws timelines together around his sun, with potentially unintended consequences 529.
  • As a Supreme, travels along the River of Time and intervenes at selected historical battles 768 774.
  • Uses the Prologue of Time to make three million years of weapon refining pass in three external seconds 808.

Teaching, formations, and other skills

  • Cultivation instruction: Explains will and laws to Athena, teaches Li Bai a visualization method, and lectures Sixth Epoch demons on cultivation arts developed in the Third Epoch 92 619 636.
  • Formation construction: Creates barriers powerful enough to keep the gods from entering the Mortal Realm. His formation expertise nevertheless falls far short of his combat strength and trails specialists such as Qing Fengxi and Li Zhe 293 487.
  • Psychic intervention: Dispels mental contamination affecting Bronze powerhouses and examines the resentment poisoning Aurora's Divine Core and consciousness 196.
  • Archery and horsemanship: Excels as a mortal hunter, mounted soldier, and battlefield commander 348 353 599 629.
  • Image of Reality and Void: Later employs void-and-reality power through his crimson-gold battle armor 800.
