The burly man was dazed. "What?"
Cheng Ran (Qian Renxue) pointed at the fellow he had just killed off to the side. "Being ugly isn't your fault, but coming out and scaring people is. Look at that guy over there. You scared him to death."
"You're messing with me?" The burly man flew into a rage, drew his saber, and swung.
The Angel Blade flashed, and a head hit the ground.
White light rose and sank into the body.
Cheng Ran: "Hmm, somewhere over level forty. Mediocre experience. Next."
Cheng Ran (Qian Renxue) looked around, then walked over to a skinny man drinking alone in a corner.
Cheng Ran (Qian Renxue): "Buddy, why is there blood on your scabbard? Been killing people?"
The skinny man sneered. "So what if I have?"
Cheng Ran (Qian Renxue): "Nothing. I just think you have terrible taste in victims. What's so impressive about killing a musclehead with a heavy sword? Come on, come at me. I'll show you what a real opponent feels like."
The skinny man attacked in anger.
White light rose.
Watching from within the sea of consciousness, Qian Renxue was utterly speechless.
Qian Renxue: "Lord Evil God, killing people is one thing, but why do you have to take the moral high ground while you do it... what I'm asking is, how long have you had these symptoms?"
Cheng Ran: "Xiao Xue, you don't understand. Because I, the Evil God, am kind."
Qian Renxue: "...As long as you're happy."
Something even more outrageous happened one morning.
Qian Renxue woke up, and the moment she regained consciousness, she felt that the Soul Power within her had increased substantially since she went to sleep.
She froze for a moment, then lowered her head and sensed it. Her Soul Power was clearly far more abundant than before bed, as though she had fought a good dozen or more matches.
Qian Renxue: "Lord Evil God, what did you do with my body last night?"
Cheng Ran: "Hear me out. Why did hundreds of criminals in Slaughter City suddenly die in the middle of the night? Why did screams repeatedly ring out from the inner city's taverns late at night? Why did dozens of burly men clutch their heads and weep, crying, 'Spare me, big sister'? Why were hundreds of corpses neatly lined up along an entire street?"
Cheng Ran: "A fifteen-year-old girl went on a late-night rampage in the streets. Was it the lure of experience, or the judgment of justice? Welcome to the morning news, 'Approaching Slaughter'!"
Qian Renxue: "...So what exactly did you do?"
Cheng Ran: "Nothing much. I just went for a stroll while you were sleeping and farmed a few Humanoid Monsters along the way."
Qian Renxue: "Just a few?"
Cheng Ran: "A few hundred million more than a few. Oh, right, two of them could put up quite a fight. Decent experience. Anyway, don't worry about it..."
"You get your sleep."
"I do my thing."
"The criminals contribute experience."
"We all have a bright future."
Qian Renxue: "Lord Evil God, you're practically my own mother."
Cheng Ran: "??"
The days and months aged people; time hurried youth along.
This was already Qian Renxue's fifth day in Slaughter City.
At the Hell Slaughter Arena, Qian Renxue jostled through the crowd, the sword in her hand already thirsting for blood.
As Qian Renxue waited in utter boredom, countless thoughts ran through her mind.
Actually, Lord Evil God brought me here the first time. I normally never touched this stuff.
I even asked him whether it was addictive. He said it was fine, so I went with him a few more times. Anyway, it felt pretty good, pretty exciting, and then I got sucked in.
I couldn't even sleep lying in bed at night. All I wanted was to go kill another one. I've already spent so much time and effort on this. Sometimes I didn't even want to eat. All I could think about was the way to the Hell Slaughter Arena.
Later, I gradually grew bolder and even came here on my own while Lord Evil God was asleep.
Now there's no turning back...
And today was already her twelfth match.
Qian Renxue finally encountered a true opponent.
The man wore a hood and had a thin frame. He held a slender rapier, his movements light and unpredictable.
His cultivation was around level sixty-seven or sixty-eight, but his physical combat skills were exceptionally refined. He took down two people within three moves of the match's opening.
His footwork and movement techniques clearly showed systematic training. He was no self-taught amateur.
Someone in the waiting area had discussed him in hushed tones. He called himself "Shadow Snake."
He had originally been the leader of the covert guards for a noble family in the Heaven Dou Empire. He had spent most of his life doing his master's dirty work-exterminating families, carrying out assassinations, and silencing witnesses. His hands were drenched in blood.
Later, his master fell from power, and with nowhere else to go, he entered Slaughter City.
He had spent five years in Slaughter City, winning twenty-seven matches without a single defeat.
Qian Renxue deliberately avoided getting tangled up with the others, waiting to face Shadow Snake.
Once most of the other contestants had been eliminated, the two faced off in the center of the arena.
Shadow Snake removed his hood, revealing a pale, cold face and a sinister gaze.
"Your footwork is interesting," he said in a hoarse voice.
Qian Renxue did not answer.
Shadow Snake said nothing more either. His rapier thrust out as swiftly as a venomous snake flicking its tongue.
The angle of this thrust was exceptionally tricky, slanting upward toward her throat.
Qian Renxue did not retreat. Instead, she stepped forward.
That step sent the rapier's path past the side of her neck, missing by less than an inch.
At the same time, her hand had already landed on the rapier's blade.
Her five fingers clamped around the blade, pressing down and twisting.
The rapier turned halfway around in Shadow Snake's hand. The web of his thumb jolted violently, and he nearly lost his grip.
Shadow Snake's expression shifted slightly. He released his sword and retreated several steps.
Qian Renxue casually tossed the rapier to the ground without pressing her advantage.
Shadow Snake looked at his empty right hand, then at Qian Renxue, and smiled. "Interesting."
He drew a short dagger from his waist, lowered his body, and rushed toward her close to the ground.
Having spent half his life as the leader of covert guards, Shadow Snake had long since perfected his close-quarters dagger techniques.
Fast, precise, ruthless. Every strike targeted a vital spot.
Although his movement techniques were inferior to Qian Renxue's, he had extremely rich combat experience, and his control of distance and timing was precise to the smallest fraction.
Qian Renxue had to use every means at her disposal.
The Angel Blade switched between attack and defense, Flight let her evade attacks from tricky angles, and she grew increasingly fluent in using the Angel Cultivation Technique in actual combat.
The two exchanged more than thirty moves.
The spectator stands were utterly silent.
Everyone could see that these two were a full tier above the other contestants in physical combat.
Qian Renxue finally found an opening.
After Shadow Snake delivered a backhand dagger thrust, his center of gravity tipped slightly forward, and his body stalled.
This was the very moment Qian Renxue had been waiting for. A sharp gleam flashed through her golden eyes as she activated Angel Holy Eyes.
Then she activated the Soul Bone Skill Flight, and her body rose into the air.
A glint of cold light arrived first, followed by a blade surging like a dragon!
The next instant, Qian Renxue appeared behind him. Only after several full seconds did he clutch his neck and fall to his knees.
Rip!
Blood bloomed across the ground like flowers.
A dense white light rose from Shadow Snake's corpse, transforming into pure Soul Power that surged into Qian Renxue's body.
Her Soul Power increased substantially again from this battle.
Cheng Ran: "Elite monsters really are different. Their experience is worth several grunts."
Qian Renxue was completely hooked. "Another match, please!"
After a period of waiting.
Qian Renxue entered the arena again. The bewilderment she had arrived with was gone from her eyes, replaced by chilling killing intent.
"That's it? Looks like a hundred wins won't be so hard." Her gaze swept across her nine opponents this time.
In her eyes, these people had only one label left: what Lord Evil God called experience points.
But friends who frequently killed people in Slaughter City all knew that achieving a hundred wins was very difficult.
Cheng Ran: "The Hell Slaughter Arena has been this difficult all these years. Don't spout nonsense with your eyes wide open. Getting a hundred wins in the Hell Slaughter Arena is hard... sometimes you need to look at yourself. After all these years, has your strength improved? Have you been taking your cheating seriously?"
