Background / History
Arrival at Shrek
Su Xian remembers a landslide striking while he was travelling into the mountains to volunteer as a teacher. After passing through spatial turbulence, he awakens inside Shrek Academy’s Sea God Pavilion with damaged optic nerves and a blood clot in his brain. Unable to see, he assumes he has reached Niulai Village in Daliang Mountain and asks the people around him to arrange an ambulance, hospital treatment, and a brain CT scan 1.
His belongings—including a smartphone, identity card, and a book about the Douluo Continent—attract the attention of Shrek’s elders. Mu En suspects that his arrival and knowledge may involve the Divine Realm. He forbids Xuan Zi from searching Su Xian’s soul, fearing that doing so could trigger a divine restriction and destroy Shrek 1 2.
The Niulai Village Deception
Mu En poses as an elderly village chief and claims that rain and mudslides have blocked the roads. Other elders conceal their identities or listen secretly as Su Xian discusses the novels he has read. His supposedly casual complaints reveal private histories and future disasters, convincing Shrek’s leaders to keep questioning him 1 2 6.
As Su Xian recovers, the village’s unnatural silence and its officials’ abundant free time make him suspicious. He briefly considers whether he has been kidnapped by scammers or a pyramid scheme. His demand to leave the courtyard and teach a full class forces Shrek to construct a convincing village set, recruit disguised students and elders, and supply simulated machinery noises and animal calls. The performance restores his confidence that he is still in Daliang Mountain 18 20.
Protected Secret
Mu En eventually classifies Su Xian’s existence and everything he has said as Shrek’s highest-level secret. The ten-li area around his cabin becomes a first-class military restricted zone under Mu En’s personal spiritual surveillance. Mu En fears that Mingde Hall or Di Tian would attempt to assassinate him if they learned of his knowledge 29.
Shrek’s leaders discuss fabricating an identity and granting him a position, but no appointment is confirmed. At that point, Elder Zhuang estimates that acupuncture and medicinal baths will require approximately two more months to disperse the clot and restore his eyesight 29.
Appearance
- Young man: His manner is compared to that of a cheerful university student 17.
- Bandaged eyes: Thick gauze covers his eyes throughout his recovery 18 24.
- Mobility aid: He uses a white cane and sometimes relies on others to guide or support him 31.
Personality
Su Xian takes his volunteer teaching seriously. Believing Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi to be undernourished mountain children, he worries about their health and begins testing their knowledge. He later urges his supposed pupils to study, leave poverty behind, and choose their own futures through education 8 22.
He is outspoken, sarcastic, and fond of gossip and dark humor. His attacks on Shrek mix criticism of student safety and institutional stagnation with intensely personal insults. Because he thinks he is discussing fictional characters, he remains unaware that many of his targets are listening nearby 2 10 12 23.
His confidence grows as his hosts become familiar. He enjoys their admiration, boasts about how easily he could reform Shrek, and admits that showing off helps establish his authority as a teacher. Nevertheless, he sometimes qualifies his proposals as speculation drawn from history books and novels rather than knowledge of the continent’s actual conditions 17 27 28 31.
His outlook combines concern for ordinary people with ruthless political prescriptions. He rejects simple divisions between heroes and villains, arguing that a power can fight evil while also monopolizing resources or obstructing progress. Yet his proposed response to hostile trade associations includes property confiscation, clan extermination, and forced commercial consolidation 9 29.
Abilities & Skills
Knowledge of the Douluo Novels
Su Xian possesses information about the continent’s history, prominent figures, and future events through his reading—not through any demonstrated prophetic ability 1 2.
- Identifies Xuan Zi’s past failures and the future Death Messenger incident, including Yao Haoxuan’s death and Chen Zifeng’s crippling injuries 2 6.
- Describes Huo Yuhao’s future Spirit Pagoda and disputes Shrek’s handling of artificial soul spirit technology 7 11.
- Reveals sensitive personal matters involving Yan Shaozhe, Xian Lin’er, Qian Duoduo, and Zhang Lexuan 10 14.
- Recounts Shrek City’s destruction in the Legend of the Dragon King era by two Level Twelve God-Slaying Fixed Soul Cannon Shells 15.
- Limit: He continues to treat the continent as fiction and does not realize that his disclosures are changing real decisions 17 29.
Scientific Teaching
Su Xian explains modern scientific concepts in accessible language, sometimes giving Soul Masters a new way to understand familiar techniques 8 13.
- Newton’s Third Law: His explanation of mutual forces helps Xu Sanshi recognize the principle behind the Xuanming Sect’s defensive technique and enter meditation 8.
- Energy conservation and conversion: His lessons prompt Mu En to reconsider interactions between light and dark Soul Power; Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi later discuss energy conversion during combat 8 13.
- Astronomy: Uses tablet videos and numerical comparisons to teach the scale of planets, stars, and galaxies 21 22.
- Agriculture: Proposes chemical fertilizers and greenhouse soilless cultivation as ways to increase crop yields and accelerate valuable plant growth; these remain claims rather than demonstrated results 31.
- Research methods: Calls for investigation into Soul Power’s nature, martial soul inheritance, mutations, and the energy conversions underlying soul skills 32.
Industrial and Military Strategy
Su Xian argues that standardized production and organized forces will outperform Shrek’s reliance on a small number of elite cultivators 17 24 32.
- Break complex Soul Tools into standardized components that ordinary blacksmiths can manufacture, leaving final assembly to Soul Engineers 17.
- Equip large forces of commoners with mass-produced Soul Guidance Ray Guns rather than depending exclusively on Inner Court geniuses 17.
- Build steel ships powered by soul guidance arrays to seek rare metals and other resources overseas 17.
- Advocates overseas colonies and resource plunder, later identifying rubber and petroleum as additional industrial requirements 17 33.
- Argues that commoners able to operate powerful weapons would undermine the Soul Master class’s monopoly on force and privilege 34.
- Limit: He explicitly acknowledges uncertainty about the continent’s actual circumstances and metal-smelting capabilities 17.
Economic and Institutional Planning
Drawing partly on a university economics elective, Su Xian proposes financial and administrative systems adapted to Shrek’s reputation and supernatural resources 12 26 28.
- Institutional accountability: Recommends open recruitment, term limits, and performance evaluations tied to artificial soul spirit affordability and commoners’ living conditions 12.
- Banking: Proposes Shrek-backed bonds, banknotes, and deposits to finance industrial expansion and purchase rare-metal mining rights directly 26 27.
- Risk management: Warns against immediately accepting ordinary people’s deposits; recommends a restricted pilot serving powerful trade associations, noble families, and sects 28.
- Currency security: Suggests advance withdrawal reporting and Soul Power or spiritual-power seals to deter fraud and counterfeiting 28.
- Commercial control: Recommends auditing hostile merchants and consolidating surviving associations into a Shrek-controlled Sea God Pavilion Commercial Alliance 29.
Physical Limitations
- Has no demonstrated combat ability, Soul Power, awakened martial soul, or cultivation advancement 1 29.
- His blindness prevents him from observing his hosts’ identities, reactions, and surroundings, making Shrek’s deception possible 1 20 24.
- His hearing becomes exceptionally keen during recovery; the absence of ordinary village sounds initially alerts him that something is wrong 18.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Douluo Continent book — Leisure reading that Shrek’s elders suspect is a divine text because of its revelations about Tang San and the academy 1.
- Smartphone — Runs out of battery; Su Xian asks to charge it so he can tell his family he is safe 2.
- Identity card — Examined by the Sea God Pavilion elders after his arrival 1.
- Backpack — Holds his teaching materials and tablet 20.
- Tablet computer — Survives the landslide and retains its charge; used for classroom videos and astronomy lessons. Its operation without Soul Power shocks Shrek’s observers 20 21 22.
- White cane — Used to navigate while blind 31.
- Recovery furnishings — Sleeps on a Soul-Nourishing Wood bed beneath a Supreme Ice Silkworm Silk Quilt, mistaking these expensive comforts for ordinary village provisions 1 3.
Relationships
- Mu En — Protector and principal questioner, whom Su Xian knows as the village chief or “Uncle Mu En.” Mu En becomes his emotional anchor after the injury while secretly directing the deception and applying his advice 1 3 29.
- Zhang Lexuan — Appears to him as “A-Xuan.” She seeks his advice and deliberately uses his criticisms to expose Shrek’s conservative faction; he also condemns her arranged childhood betrothal to Bei Bei 12 14 17.
- Yan Shaozhe — His most frequent target of ridicule. Initially furious enough to attempt a confrontation, Yan later decides to endure the insults to extract useful ideas from him 10 12 31.
- Xuan Zi — A repeated target of criticism over student deaths and reckless leadership. Su Xian’s remarks destabilize his cultivation mindset and later cause him to collapse 2 23 31.
- Qian Duoduo — Poses as “Uncle Mo Niu,” guides him on walks, and helps develop his financial proposals. His admiration persists despite Su Xian’s mockery of his marriage and professional outlook 10 27 31.
- Xian Lin’er — Benefits from his support for Soul Tool research, although he also insults her personally. She urges Mu En to act on his warnings about technological stagnation 7 27.
- Bei Bei and Xu Sanshi — Disguised pupils whom he calls “A Bei” and “A Shi.” His physics lessons influence their approach to combat 8 13.
- Ma Xiaotao — Participates in the village performance as “Cuihua.” Su Xian discusses her Evil Fire Phoenix backlash without realizing that she is among his listeners 10 20 21.
