Background / History

Childhood and Training

Long Haochen is the son of Long Xingyu and Bai Yue. His childhood experiences leave him unusually mature, and he rarely jokes except around Ye Hua and Jiang Li. His father leaves him an Inheritance Ring containing knight techniques and cultivation insights, with instructions against casually revealing its contents to outsiders 15 25 38.

Under Ye Hua, Haochen trains alongside his senior fellow disciple, Jiang Li. Ye Hua frequently uses Jiang Li’s accomplishments as examples during Haochen’s instruction, strengthening his admiration for his senior brother. Although Haochen possesses far greater natural talent, Jiang Li remains more experienced in practical combat and demon hunting 1 32.

Contracting Haoyue

At Knight Sacred Mountain, Haochen fails to obtain a mount because even the finest magical beasts consider themselves unworthy of his talent. Believing he has disappointed Ye Hua, he apologizes before accepting the mountain guardian’s offer to try a summoning array 1.

He emerges with a two-headed, lizard-like magical beast named Haoyue. Jiang Li recognizes the creature as Austin Griffin, the God of Damnation. Haochen and Haoyue establish a blood pact, later providing Qian Renxue with an example when she investigates a deeper contract with Jiang Li 1 15.

Helping Ye Hua

When Jiang Li proposes using Retainer Knight Contracts to improve Ye Hua’s talent, Haochen readily agrees to help. Ye Hua initially resists because accepting a retainer position would occupy one of Haochen’s limited contract slots and might compromise his future interests 14 15.

After witnessing Jiang Li and Qian Renxue’s successful contract, Haochen urges Ye Hua to proceed. Ye Hua waits three days to verify that Qian Renxue’s depleted innate power can recover, then signs the contract with Haochen. His innate internal spiritual power rises to 58, while Haochen experiences temporary weakness from the power expenditure 16.

Repaying Jiang Li

Jiang Li’s Light Spirit-Nurturing Pill restores Haochen’s contract-related depletion and increases his spiritual power, saving him several months of cultivation. Jiang Li subsequently gives him a ten-thousand-year ginseng king to strengthen his physique and compensate for deficiencies from his early years 24 25 26.

Wanting to repay these gifts, Haochen considers sharing his father’s inheritance but hesitates over the instruction to keep it private. Ye Hua suggests withholding Long Xingyu’s personally created techniques while sharing skills otherwise available through Temple merit-point exchanges. After reaching the fifth order, Haochen follows that compromise 25 26 29.

Selection Competition and Aimei Auction

Haochen joins Jiang Li, Li Xin, Lin Jialu, Chen Si, and Chen Chen for the Demon Hunt Squad Selection Competition qualifiers. Each participant must kill five Demon Race soldiers. He accepts Jiang Li’s appointment as captain without objection 30 31.

At an Aimei City auction, Lin Xin offers pills in exchange for a promise that Haochen will select him as a future teammate. Haochen initially refuses, judging the pills insufficiently useful for his current cultivation. He hesitates only when Lin Xin adds a stone sphere desired by Haoyue and considers how the pills could help Li Xin 33.

Jiang Li intervenes and exposes Lin Xin’s ulterior motives. When Lin Xin apologizes, Haochen chooses not to pursue the matter. Jiang Li subsequently warns him to remain alert to other people’s schemes. Haochen later gives Lin Xin’s pills to Li Xin 34 41.

Final Battle

During the final battle on the Holy Demon Continent, Qian Renxue and Jiang Li appear as the Angel God and Sea God, respectively, and fight alongside Haochen. His cultivation at this point is not specified 43.

Appearance

  • Features: Delicate, refined, and exceptionally well-proportioned; described as a cute, exquisitely featured boy during the selection journey 30.
  • After his breakthrough: His overall presence noticeably changes upon reaching the fifth order, though no specific physical alterations are described 29.

Personality

Haochen is sincere, grateful, and strongly attached to those who care for him. He willingly spends his own power to improve Ye Hua’s prospects and repeatedly searches for a meaningful way to repay Jiang Li. His generosity also extends to Haoyue, with whom he shares much of the ginseng king’s medicinal power rather than prioritizing an immediate breakthrough 14 16 25 26.

His trust in Jiang Li is unusually deep: he accepts his senior brother’s assurances about Ye Hua’s future and regards him as qualified to lead even without a cultivation advantage. That trust does not make him incapable of judgment; he refuses Lin Xin’s initial bargain and reserves the final decision over whether to accept his apology 16 31 33 34.

His compassion extends beyond humans. Learning that Soul Masters kill Soul Beasts for Soul Bones troubles him, particularly because of his own companionship with Haoyue. After Jiang Li explains the Douluo Plane’s rules, Haochen solemnly promises to try to change them if he eventually gains the necessary power 38.

Abilities & Skills

Child of Light

Haochen possesses exceptional cultivation talent and an unusually pure sacred-light presence 1 2.

  • Magical beasts at Knight Sacred Mountain refuse him because they feel unworthy of his talent 1.
  • He senses Qian Renxue’s sacred-light power during her awakening and is instinctively drawn to it 10.
  • His natural attributes and inherited techniques allow him to display combat strength well beyond many cultivators of the same level, despite his comparatively limited experience 14.

Blood Pact with Haoyue

His blood pact creates a close connection with Haoyue, allowing the two to share benefits and communicate 15 25 26.

  • Translates Haoyue’s intentions for others while the mount cannot yet speak 15 35.
  • Senses Haoyue’s increased strength after it eats ten-thousand-year subdragon Soul Beast meat 25.
  • Transfers a large portion of the ginseng king’s medicinal power to Haoyue 26.
  • Haoyue can reverse-summon him to its world 4.

Retainer Knight Contract

Haochen contracts Ye Hua as his retainer knight, sharing the benefits of his innate talent 16.

  • Raises Ye Hua’s innate internal spiritual power to 58 16.
  • Causes Haochen temporary weakness and an uncomfortable sense of depletion at his then-current cultivation 16.
  • A knight can have at most two retainers without additional contracts affecting the knight himself 12.

Holy Light Flash

Jiang Li teaches Haochen his self-created Holy Light Flash in return for sharing inherited skills. The technique uses sacred light for a high-speed, explosive attack 3 36.

  • Haochen avoids using it in ordinary sparring because he considers it too powerful 36.
  • He also wishes to avoid carelessly exposing Jiang Li’s trump card 36.
  • The technique remains usable as cultivation rises, provided it is adapted accordingly 36.

Inherited Knight Techniques

His father’s Inheritance Ring provides techniques together with a Divine Seal Knight’s practical insights 26 29.

  • Access is cultivation-dependent; reaching the fifth order unlocks the corresponding inheritance 29.
  • Its contents include both Long Xingyu’s exclusive techniques and skills otherwise obtainable through Temple merit points 26.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Lin Xin’s pills — Received after the auction confrontation and later passed to Li Xin because many no longer benefit Haochen 34 41.

Relationships

  • Jiang Li — Senior fellow disciple, instructor, and benefactor. Their bond grows from Jiang Li’s initially calculated approach into genuine protectiveness and mutual assistance 15 29 33.
  • Ye Hua — Teacher and later retainer knight. Haochen insists on helping him overcome his talent limitations rather than preserving the contract slot for a potentially stronger retainer 15 16.
