Background / History
Anime World
Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as the son of its leader, Yu Yuanzhen. His awakened martial soul resembled a pig, but the Heavenly Screen later identified it as a light-type Holy Dragon Embryo. Despite his initial disappointment, Yu Yuanzhen intended to nurture his son and attempt to improve his condition 5 7.
According to Yu Yuanzhen, Xiaogang rejected his advice to absorb lightning-attribute Soul Rings and chose poison-attribute rings instead. His martial soul remained the flatulent, pig-shaped Luo Sanpao. As his father gradually abandoned efforts to help him, the clan became increasingly cold toward him; Xiaogang eventually left because he could no longer endure its treatment 5 7.
He subsequently devoted himself to Martial Soul Theory, hoping to prove himself and return to confront the clan that had scorned him. He also became part of the Golden Iron Triangle alongside Flender and Liu Erlong, with whom he developed a three-person martial soul fusion skill 9 11.
Manga World
The manga counterpart also awakened a pig-shaped Holy Dragon Embryo. His father secretly allocated cultivation resources to him, while Xiaogang cultivated diligently and began studying Martial Soul Theory to find a breakthrough for his martial soul 8.
After Xiaogang offended Yu Luomian, his uncle covertly encouraged the clan’s hostility toward him. More than a thousand disciples petitioned for his expulsion. Yu Yuanzhen ultimately complied, although he intended to recall his son after he achieved something outside the clan 8.
Xiaogang and Liu Erlong later fell in love without knowing they were paternal cousins. Yu Luomian interrupted their planned wedding. By the time of the Heavenly Screen comparisons, Ye Han’s influence had brought about their early reconciliation, and Shrek Academy had already moved to Heaven Dou City and merged with Liu Erlong’s Blue Tyrant Academy 8 10.
Appearance
- Hair: The anime counterpart has a buzz cut 2.
- Visible reactions: When challenged, he repeatedly becomes red-faced and bloodshot-eyed, with heavy, bull-like breathing 4 5 16.
Personality
Anime World
Yu Xiaogang is intensely proud of his theoretical reputation and clan heritage. He claims to know every secret on the continent and treats disagreement as a challenge to his authority. His dismissal of Zhu Zhuqing’s caution about the Manga World establishes his confidence before the comparisons begin 3.
Repeated contradictions rarely lead him to concede. He calls unfavorable results fabricated, changes his arguments after failed predictions, and refuses to honor wagers that threaten his dignity. After the screen confirms the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda can evolve, he privately remains more concerned with becoming a public laughingstock than accepting his loss 4 6 16 19 38.
His attachment to his clan survives his estrangement. Seeing its predicted annihilation, he angrily threatens to destroy Spirit Hall, regarding the clan as his roots despite years spent trying to prove its judgment of him wrong 11.
Manga World
The manga counterpart responds to the exposure of his past with composure rather than anger. He acknowledges the clan’s rejection, expresses surprise at Yu Luomian’s manipulation, and shows relief rather than consuming hatred. He also emphasizes that Liu Erlong is already beside him again 10.
He is more willing to distinguish speculation from knowledge. When asked about Heaven and Earth Soul Rings, he explicitly labels his explanation a guess and recommends waiting for the Heavenly Screen’s account 36.
Abilities & Skills
Cultivation and Luo Sanpao
Luo Sanpao’s pig-like appearance conceals its connection to the Radiant Sacred Dragon 4 5.
- Confirmed cultivation: The anime counterpart remains at level 29 despite being over fifty 5.
- Evolution potential: The screen explains that a properly nurtured Holy Dragon Embryo has a strong chance of becoming a Radiant Sacred Dragon; improper nurturing can permanently fix it in pig form 4.
- Disputed training: His father attributes Luo Sanpao’s condition to poison-attribute Soul Rings. Xiaogang insists those rings are appropriate during early cultivation 5 8.
- Permanent evolution: Xiaogang claims he will eventually achieve it, but no permanent transformation is demonstrated in the supplied events 8 9.
Trinity Martial Soul Fusion Skill
Developed by Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong during their time as the Golden Iron Triangle 9.
- Temporarily awakens Luo Sanpao’s dragon bloodline.
- Produces the Golden Sacred Dragon, also called the Radiant Sacred Dragon.
- Grants enough combat power to briefly contend with a low-ranking Titled Douluo.
- Requires the three participants; it does not establish that Xiaogang can evolve independently 8 9.
Martial Soul Theory
Xiaogang researches martial soul cultivation and evolution and claims authorship of the Ten Core Competencies of Martial Souls. He describes his studies as including ancient texts and visits to experts from different factions 17.
| Subject | Anime Xiaogang’s position | Evidence challenging it |
|---|---|---|
| Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda | Its innate limitation is immutable; he dismisses reports of an Eight Treasure form 17. | The screen states that Ning Rongrong’s martial soul can evolve into the Nine Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda after consuming an Aromatic Silk Beauty 19. |
| Bone Dragon cultivation | Spatial abilities are incidental and useless; Gu Rong should cultivate pure defense 21. | Manga Gu Rong successfully combines spatial abilities and defense, with greater overall power than his anime counterpart 23. |
| Heaven and Earth Soul Rings | They are naturally condensed from heaven-and-earth Soul Power 36. | The later account identifies their origin in ancient soul beasts, prompting another confrontation 37 38. |
| Tang San’s first martial soul | Poison and toughness rings suit a control-system route; he predicts the manga counterpart’s skills will likewise be limited to poison and control 45. | Ning Rongrong questions this approach because of the Blue Silver Emperor’s life and healing attributes; Tang San himself becomes suspicious 45 47. |
- Source controversy: Spirit Hall personnel privately question his originality, observing that Spirit Hall already possessed the theories he presents. Their comments raise an accusation of compilation or plagiarism rather than documenting a formal finding 21.
Teaching and Protective Secrecy
- Trains Anime Tang San along a poison-and-toughness control route 45.
- Forbids Tang San from publicly revealing his second martial soul, explaining that exposure could reveal his connection to Tang Hao and attract Spirit Hall’s attention 41.
- Identifies Tang San’s small hammer as the Clear Sky Hammer when revealing his parentage 41.
Relationships
- Tang San — His disciple and most persistent defender. Anime Tang San initially treats his teacher with filial loyalty, but begins questioning his instruction when the Blue Silver Emperor’s cultivation path comes under scrutiny 3 16 45.
- Flender — Fellow Golden Iron Triangle member and supporter. He confirms the fusion skill’s power and repeatedly intervenes when Xiaogang is embarrassed 9 35.
- Liu Erlong — Paternal cousin, beloved, and fusion-skill partner. The anime counterpart remains separated from her, while the manga counterpart has already reconciled with her 8 9 10.
- Yu Yuanzhen — Father and clan leader. Both versions initially seek to support Xiaogang, though the circumstances of his departure differ between worlds 7 8.
- Yu Luomian — Paternal uncle and Liu Erlong’s father. In the Manga World, he orchestrates Xiaogang’s persecution and disrupts his wedding 8.
- Bibi Dong — Deeply attached to the anime counterpart and fiercely protective of his reputation. She interprets his cultivation choices as preparation for future evolution; Xiaogang later condemns her after seeing Spirit Hall’s predicted attack on his clan 5 9 11.
- Ning Rongrong — Principal opponent during the anime-side comparisons. She challenges his clan rankings, demands payment of his wagers, and exposes inconsistencies in his theories 3 16 19 23.
- Zhu Zhuqing — Initially cautious about dismissing the Manga World. Her doubts develop into open criticism, particularly when the screen supports her assessment of the Bone Dragon’s spatial potential 3 5 23.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Arrival and the Clan Comparison
The Heavenly Screen’s descent brings Anime Yu Xiaogang to Shrek Academy earlier than expected. He arrives during Ning Rongrong’s confrontation with Flender and soon wagers against her over their clans’ standing 2 3.
| Event | Xiaogang’s response |
|---|---|
| Initial ranking | Predicts the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan will place in the top four; calls the ranking bogus when it places tenth 3 4. |
| Faction foundations | Rejects the screen’s criticism of his clan’s martial soul and faces questions about Luo Sanpao’s unrealized potential 4 5. |
| Core combat strength | Guarantees victory, then disputes the Manga World’s Ancient Dragon King Soul Bone fragments after another defeat 5 6. |
| Moral character | Declares his clan honorable before the screen exposes its internal abuse and the contrasting histories of both Xiaogangs 7 8. |
| Original future | Reacts with fury to the projected destruction of his clan and his father’s death 10 11. |
| Final result | Refuses to accept the Manga World clan’s four-to-zero victory 15. |
Wagers and Loss of Credibility
When the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect places ninth, Ning Rongrong demands that Xiaogang kneel and apologize under their wager. He spits blood and collapses, then resumes arguing rather than complying. The screen’s subsequent confirmation of pagoda evolution further undermines his claim to comprehensive theoretical knowledge 16 17 19.
His errors concerning the Bone Dragon and Heaven and Earth Soul Rings deepen the skepticism around him. Unlike the anime counterpart’s confident assertions, Manga Xiaogang’s explanation of the latter remains explicitly provisional 23 36 37 38.
Tang San’s Future and Teaching Dispute
Anime Xiaogang celebrates Manga Tang San’s projected level-95 achievements as though he personally trained that counterpart. Ning Rongrong points out the distinction between worlds and redirects attention toward the differences in their cultivation 44 45 47.
The argument becomes more serious when she questions his use of poison rings for Tang San’s first martial soul. Tang San, previously his staunch defender, demands an explanation. Xiaogang responds by predicting that the manga counterpart’s Blue Silver Emperor skills will also follow poison and control rather than attack or healing 45.
