Day 19. Since being attacked by that damned thing, I had barely slept well. I should have chased after it and killed that beast!

Revis was unusually agitated, his writing in the diary scrawled and messy. He pressed down so hard as he wrote those words that he even tore through the paper in several places.

For more than half a month, he had not seen a single person—not even caught the scent of one. Even when he slept at night, he had to stay on guard, afraid that the saber-toothed tiger he had badly wounded would come looking for him. The wounds from their fight had still not healed. He knew he had already been infected by Honkai energy.

Insomnia, coupled with his painful reality, had left him increasingly desperate. It was noon. The gloomy clouds that had hung overhead for days had finally dispersed, revealing the true face of the winter sun. Its cold golden light spilled over the earth, frozen hard as stone. Something glinted in the distance, and Revis followed the flash.

Revis hurried over. An enormous bear trap lay open on the ground. Though it was somewhat rusty, he could still tell that it had been set there recently.

That meant there were people nearby. As long as there were people, Revis could find his way home. He did not hope for a cure to his Honkai energy infection; he only wished to return to his homeland before he died.

He crouched down and carefully examined the rusty oversized trap. It was clearly no ordinary device, apparently meant for some large predator. Perhaps not merely large, but gigantic.
