Background / History

Lower Plane Origins

Xiao Yan ascended from a Lower Plane but nearly died when his original power clashed with the Great Thousand World’s Spiritual Energy. Luo Tianshen reorganized his meridians, helped convert his power into Spiritual Energy, and supplied money and cultivation resources for his onward journey 97 105.

After establishing himself in the upper world, Xiao Yan founded the Endless Fire Domain. Alongside Martial Ancestor Lin Dong and Great Desolation Lord Su Changqing, he became known as one of the Great Thousand World’s Three Pillars 90. His territory guards several spatial nodes used by the Outer Realm Evil Clan to invade 55.

Ancient Heavenly Palace and the Border Campaign

Xiao Yan and Lin Dong arrived at the Ancient Heavenly Palace ruins and joined Su Changqing in restoring the Heavenly Emperor’s remnant soul into a phantom 52 53. Although he respected the Heavenly Emperor, Xiao Yan declined the opportunity to inherit One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones, believing that pursuing another path would divide his attention from Heavenly Flames 54.

While Su Changqing cultivated, Xiao Yan challenged Lin Dong to a spar. Their exchange damaged the ruins, and Su intervened by erasing their ultimate attacks. After the Heavenly Emperor entrusted the Great Thousand World to them and passed on, Xiao Yan proposed taking their competition to the border: whoever killed fewer demons would provide the others with his finest wine 55 56.

At the border, Xiao Yan incinerated an Earthly Sovereign-level Four-Armed Demon King upon arrival 57. He then fought beside Su Changqing and Lin Dong against five Heavenly Demon Emperors, helping break their Forbidden Demon Array. The battle ended with three enemies killed, one captured, and the Shadow Devil Emperor escaping 58.

The three subsequently destroyed a summoned apparition of the Heavenly Evil God and sealed the invading army’s spatial rift 61.

Repaying Luo Tianshen

Oscar brought Xiao Yan news of Luo Tianshen’s plight. In gratitude, Xiao Yan appointed him a Guest Elder of the Sacred Fire Heavenly Pill Inner Pavilion, granted access to rare herbs and instruction, and rewarded him with a Supreme Clarity Spiritual Charm Pill. Rather than merely dispatching troops, Xiao Yan chose to aid his former benefactor personally 102.

Arriving at Luo Shen Small City, Xiao Yan dispersed the hostile storm and dissolved the frost handprint threatening his daughter, Xiao Xiao. He greeted Luo Tianshen respectfully as a junior and removed the old man’s chronic blood poison with a light pat on the shoulder 105.

When the Western Heaven War Emperor confronted him, Xiao Yan crushed a communication Stone Talisman to summon Lin Dong 106. He supported his allies during the ensuing confrontation, which ended with the Five Great Ancient Clans withdrawing and Lin Dong killing the War Emperor 113.

Pursuit of the Firmament Ledger

Su Changqing warned Xiao Yan and Lin Dong that the Heavenly Evil God’s seal was weakening. He explained that the Firmament Ledger offered a route toward Half-Step Ruler and, through inscribing a complete name, the Dominator Realm. Both resolved to pursue that power rather than await the enemy’s release 117.

After Su Changqing reached Half-Step Ruler, he shared his understanding of the World Will. Xiao Yan entered seclusion immediately and completed his own breakthrough under Su’s protection. He thanked Su for imparting the Dao and recognized the guidance as a profound debt 135 137 139.

Later, Xiao Yan and Lin Dong concealed their new cultivation while a Heavenly Demon Emperor summoned reinforcements. Once three additional Saint Grade Heavenly Demon Emperors appeared, the allies revealed their Half-Step Ruler strength and annihilated all four 163.

The Heavenly Evil God and the Heaven-Slaying Alliance

After Elder Huo Chen’s death, Xiao Yan joined Lin Dong and Su Changqing to confront the Heavenly Evil God’s incarnation 173. The three recognized the incarnation as bait and waited for the true body to emerge before committing themselves 175.

Their combined strength could resist the Heavenly Evil God but could not kill him. Their strongest exchange blinded one of his five eyes without substantially damaging his essence; the eye soon regenerated 176 177 178.

Following the enemy’s retreat, Xiao Yan and Lin Dong founded the Heaven-Slaying Alliance, appointed Su Changqing its leader, and became his deputies. Xiao Yan committed the Endless Fire Domain’s resources to military and logistical support so that Su could concentrate on developing the power needed to kill the Heavenly Evil God within five years 179.

Wartime Preparations and Attrition

For the next three years, Xiao Yan remained in the Endless Fire Domain refining Recovery Pills. Using twenty-two-colored Heavenly Flames and a gigantic Medicine Cauldron, he produced tens of billions of pills for the alliance’s armies 181.

After the alliance’s formation hub was sabotaged, Xiao Yan used Heavenly Flames and high-grade pills to keep Qing Yanjing alive. Ancestor Futu then trapped him, Lin Dong, and Qing Yanjing in a formation tied to the Pagoda Ancient Clan’s earth veins, making a direct attack liable to kill millions. Su Changqing eliminated the traitor without damaging those veins 184 185.

During the subsequent war of attrition, the Heavenly Evil God prevented Xiao Yan from freely attacking the demon army by keeping him under direct threat. Xiao Yan nevertheless pledged to sustain the war through the Fire Domain’s pill reserves and to help hold the enemy back while Su Changqing developed his sword intent 187 188.

Xiao Yan appears as a black-robed young man with flowing black hair, pitch-black eyes, and a frequently relaxed smile 52 57 90.

Xiao Yan is easygoing, sociable, and openly competitive. He enjoys sparring with Lin Dong and turns a border expedition into a contest with wine as the wager 55 56. His refusal of the Heavenly Emperor’s inheritance also shows a disciplined commitment to his own cultivation path rather than an indiscriminate pursuit of powerful techniques 54.

He places great importance on gratitude and personal loyalty. Despite his status, he thanks Oscar with a salute between equals and publicly greets Luo Tianshen as a respected elder 102 105. He is protective of his daughter, but initially attempts to restrain his temper when confronting the Western Heaven War Emperor 106.

Xiao Yan is willing to subordinate personal standing to the Great Thousand World’s survival. He accepts a deputy position under Su Changqing, commits his domain to supporting the alliance, and spends three uninterrupted years producing medicine for its soldiers 179 181.
