Background / History
Su Changqing began as an ordinary man in an impoverished Lower Plane. A princess possessing Heavenly Phoenix Fate targeted his Profound Python Fate as nourishment, but he turned the attempt against her and devoured a portion of her Fate Origin. The resulting transformation allowed him to overcome his original foundation and attain Saint Dragon Fate 10 84 90.
He subsequently conquered his Lower Plane, took control of the small world, and exterminated a branch of the Otherworldly Demons before ascending. An ancient battlefield and a suppression stele remained as evidence of his campaign; lingering Saint Dragon essence continued sustaining the stele’s suppression long afterward 84 90.
In the Great Thousand World, he founded the Great Desolation Divine Realm and reached Saint Grade Heavenly Sovereign. Alongside Flame Emperor Xiao Yan and Martial Ancestor Lin Dong, he became one of the world’s three leading contemporary powers 84 90.
Appearance
- Usual presentation: Handsome, softly defined features, long snow-white hair, and white robes. His restrained demeanor makes him resemble a gentle scholar rather than an imposing cultivator 51 52.
- Casual appearance: During a board game with Lin Dong, he wears comfortable plain clothes and has black hair loosely secured with a jade hairpin 107.
- Other clothing: Appears in green robes during his confrontation with the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor and in coarse hemp garments during his later seclusion and rescue of Douluo Continent 174 180 184.
- Portraits and reliefs: Depicted in black robes with a dark Saint Dragon coiled at his feet 84 90.
Personality
Su Changqing is ordinarily refined, unhurried, and lightly humorous. He maintains a mild expression even when threatened, offering Elder Winter tea while advising him against losing his temper. His quiet bearing contrasts with the spectacular auras of Xiao Yan and Lin Dong, leading the Snow Empress to regard him as the hardest of the three to fathom 55 56 109.
He respects those who protected the Great Thousand World before him. He stabilizes the Heavenly Emperor’s fading remnant soul, accepts his legacy courteously, and stops his friends’ sparring from destroying the emperor’s resting place. Despite receiving the title Eternal Azure Great Emperor, he dismisses it as an empty name 51 54 56 136.
His gentleness does not extend to invaders threatening entire populations. In battle, he favors precise, decisive killing and refuses unnecessary exchanges. He is equally protective of his disciples, personally confronting Maha Tian for threatening Gu Xian 57 58 134.
Cultivation dominates his daily life, with board games among the few activities capable of drawing him out of seclusion. His willingness to share breakthrough insights with Xiao Yan and Lin Dong also places their collective defense of the world above maintaining an exclusive advantage 90 136 138.
Abilities & Skills
Devouring Cultivation and Saint Dragon Fate
His cultivation path absorbs other origins and incorporates outside arts into his own foundation. The Heavenly Emperor describes it as a Profound Python devouring the origins of all things and shedding its serpent form to attain the bearing of a Saint Dragon 54.
- Consumed Heavenly Phoenix Fate Origin to transform his innate fate 84 90.
- Devoured Demon Clan Origin to complete the golden Saint Dragon manifestation 60.
- Incorporates inherited techniques without abandoning his own Dao, allowing him to accept One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones without the concerns expressed by Xiao Yan and Lin Dong 54.
- His dragon manifestation is presented as part of him, rather than merely an independent beast or mount 84.
One Qi Transforms into Three Pure Ones
Inherited directly from the Heavenly Emperor, this art involves dividing the soul and replicating one’s origin. Su Changqing integrates it with his own cultivation and deploys two clones alongside his original body 54 56 57.
- White-jade clone: Uses a pure-qi longsword, severs demonic limbs, and seals an opponent’s demonic circulation by piercing major acupoints. Captures the Two-Horned Demon King alive 58.
- Dark-gold clone: Specializes in direct physical combat, fighting at close range and catching a Devil Emperor’s star-cleaving axe barehanded 58 60.
- Reintegration: A clone can return to his body as a wisp of pure qi 58.
- Early cultivation signs: The three lotus buds display jade, dark-gold, and chaotic gray-white qualities 54.
Dharma Form of Heaven and Earth
Transforms Su Changqing into a colossal giant radiating primordial, chaotic origin power. Against the Heavenly Evil God’s apparition, he reaches approximately one hundred thousand feet in height 61.
- Withstands the apparition’s descending palm without retreating, creating an opening for Xiao Yan and Lin Dong 61.
- The collision shatters surrounding space and produces an enormous spatial black hole 61.
- The exertion leaves him pale afterward; the victory requires all three allies rather than his strength alone 61.
Spatial Control and Spoken Commands
Su Changqing can immobilize enemies or disperse attacks with minimal movement and short commands 51 56.
- Freezes the demonized Tang Chen in midair, then destroys his hammer and scales with a sleeve flick 51.
- Erases Xiao Yan’s Buddha’s Fury Flame Lotus and Lin Dong’s eight-colored formation attack with two fingertips 56.
- Immobilizes a self-destructing Saint Grade Heavenly Demon Emperor, preventing him from moving or circulating his essence 163.
- Opens spatial rifts for travel and joins Xiao Yan and Lin Dong in sealing the border invasion rift 61 184.
- Halts Douluo Continent’s erupting lava, reverses its destruction, severs Tang San’s connection to the Plane Core, and destroys him with a spoken command 184.
Karmic Swordsmanship
His later sword path attacks cause and effect rather than relying solely on physical damage or the Great Thousand World’s providence 174 179 188.
- Kills the Half-Step Ruler-level Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor while cancelling his impending self-destruction 174.
- Draws upon the inherited legacy of Great Desolation sword cultivators to produce an early causality-severing strike 179.
- Stops the Heavenly Evil God’s demonic spear attack with two fingers and erases its power 188.
- Treats drawing his sword in one location as the cause, and an enemy’s death in another plane as the effect, disregarding intervening distance and barriers 190.
- Limitation: His earlier attack on the Heavenly Evil God’s middle eye barely penetrates; the god regenerates and severely injures him. Even after further development, neither can kill the other at their confrontation 178 188.
Faith and Karmic Threads
Following his rescue of Douluo Continent, prayers from its inhabitants and other Lower Planes connect to him as golden Karmic Threads 184 188.
- Uses these threads to stitch together the cracks in his sword 189.
- Does not absorb them to raise his Spiritual Energy cultivation; instead, he binds the lives and desired outcomes of countless beings to the blade 189.
- Describes this intended path as one that cannot be inscribed upon the Firmament Ledger 188.
- Requests three years of defensive warfare to allow both Mu Chen’s preparations and his own karmic sword refinement to mature 188.
Formations, Restoration, and Guidance
- Heaven-Deceiving Grand Formation: Prepares an ambush that traps invading Heavenly Demon Emperors and annihilates them before they can escape or self-detonate 138.
- Deceive-Heaven Array Runes: Reforges Gu Xian’s shattered body after rescuing him 141.
- Healing: Stabilizes the Heavenly Emperor’s remnant soul and later heals Gu Xian after battle 51 163.
- Cultivation guidance: Shares his breakthrough insights with Xiao Yan and Lin Dong, then steadies their unstable auras with world power 136 138.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Unnamed longsword / Azure Long Sword — The ordinary-looking weapon used to kill the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor. Its blade cracks during combat with the Heavenly Evil God; faith-derived Karmic Threads later repair it. By his cross-plane strike, it is only a sliver short of complete restoration 174 178 179 189 190.
- Ordinary twig — Briefly carries a branch taken from a potted plant when going to meet the enemy, then discards it before drawing his sword 173 174.
- Woodcutting axe — Uses a plain iron axe to chop firewood during his secluded preparations after the Heaven-Slaying Alliance is founded 180.
Relationships
- Xiao Yan — Close friend, fellow defender, and allied ruler. Guards his cultivation, fights beside him, and supports his appointment as Heaven-Slaying Alliance leader 54 61 179.

- Gu Xian, the Divine Son — Disciple. After Gu Xian’s clan removes his Primordial Divine Meridian and kills his mother, Su Changqing destroys the clan, takes him in, and rebuilds his body. Later defends him from Maha Tian and praises his battlefield judgment 134 141 163.
- Divine Maiden / Great Desolation Goddess — A senior figure serving in his realm; welcomes his arrival, serves tea to his guests, and receives responsibility for the aftermath of the Maha Clan’s submission alongside the Divine Son 134 136.
- Yao Lao — Old friend and chess opponent. Yao Lao wins three games against him and obtains a Great Desolation Water Spirit Pill as a prize 89.
- Mu Chen — Junior whom he identifies as the Great Thousand World’s chosen Child of Destiny. Sends him to gather the remaining Primordial Dharma Bodies while the three allied leaders hold the front 187 188.
- Tang San — Initially an admirer determined to become his disciple, but never shown being accepted. Su Changqing ultimately kills him and the Heavenly Demon Emperor’s remnant soul within him after Tang San attempts to destroy Douluo Continent 54 60 184.
- Maha Tian and Maha Wuliang — Defeats Maha Tian for threatening his disciple; subsequently accepts Maha Wuliang’s pledge of submission on behalf of the Maha Ancient Clan 134 136.
- Heavenly Evil God — Principal enemy. Su Changqing helps destroy his apparition, battles his true body, and develops karmic swordsmanship to overcome him 61 175 178 188.
