Background / History
Sect Master on the Douluo Continent
Ning Fengzhi leads the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, one of the Upper Three Sects and the continent’s foremost support sect. His standing rests on the sect’s immense wealth, his social finesse, and the protection of Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo. Although highly respected, he is a purely support-type Soul Master with no offensive power of his own 9 37.
First Expedition: Yan City
The sky screen selects Ning Fengzhi as the third explorer in its second group and transports him to Yan City. Recognizing that he cannot survive through combat, he approaches the Myriad Gold Merchant Association to exchange valuables for information and protection 7 9.
His first offer—a ten-thousand-year Head Soul Bone—is rejected because it contains neither a Demon Crystal nor pure Yuan Power. He then demonstrates his pagoda and offers seventy-percent enhancements to strength, speed, or defense. The steward dismisses these abilities as inferior to local pills and talisman arrays, then orders his capture 9.
The guards break both his legs and drag him away. The sky screen identifies him as severely injured and sold into the slave market as an ornamental pet, then suspends his broadcast after he loses his freedom 9.
Ning Rongrong’s Captivity
Ning Fengzhi is later shown seated in his sect’s hall, watching Ning Rongrong’s expedition through the sky screen. When Shi Xuan sells her to the Nirvana Realm cultivator Gu Yan, Ning Fengzhi is unable to intervene. Seeing his daughter carried toward an inn under threat of sexual exploitation and essence harvesting, he spits blood and collapses into his chair 22.
Seventh Selection: Yuan City
The sky screen selects Ning Fengzhi again in its seventh group of explorers. He arrives in Yuan City, the principal city under the Yuan Sect’s jurisdiction, and immediately seeks information about local currency and power structures 35 37.
Three Yuan Sect outer disciples intercept him over his seven-colored jade pendant. Its defensive barrier prevents a direct hit, but the impact throws him against a wall and exhausts its stored energy. Faced with a sword at his throat, he surrenders the pendant and presents himself as an ordinary merchant rather than invoking his sect-master status 37.
Over the next half day, Ning Fengzhi studies transactions, shop notices, and passing conversations without directly questioning anyone. He identifies Pure Yuan Pills as currency and concludes that survival depends on strength and sect authority. Unable to hunt, refine medicine, or forge equipment, he decides to make his pagoda’s treasure-appraisal talent commercially useful 37.
Chief Guest Appraiser and Breakthrough
At the Myriad Gold Auction House, Ning Fengzhi presents his Martial Soul as the Seven Treasure Heaven-Inspecting Pagoda, an unusual spiritual object suited to appraisal. This explanation earns him an audience with chief appraiser Yan Dashan, a Great Perfection Yuan Dan Realm cultivator 38.
After enduring Yan Dashan’s pressure without kneeling, Ning Fengzhi identifies a seemingly charred root as damaged fifth-grade Earth Core Fire Ganoderma. He explains its age, the ice-attribute damage concealing its medicinal potency, and how its surviving essence can treat extreme cold poisons. Yan Dashan appoints him Chief Guest Appraiser and rewards him with one thousand Pure Yuan Pills and high-standard lodging 38.
Ning Fengzhi subsequently consumes the pills and channels their energy into his pagoda. The resulting breakthrough destroys his longstanding Level 79 barrier, bringing him to Level 80 without an eighth Soul Ring. His sect’s elders celebrate the apparent breaking of the pagoda’s ten-thousand-year cultivation restriction 38.
Appearance
- Features: Described as refined, fair-skinned, and delicate-featured 9.
- Clothing: Wears an elegant white robe during his Yuan City expedition 37.
- Former identifying accessory: A seven-colored jade pendant signifying his position as sect master; stolen by Yuan Sect disciples 37.
Personality
Ning Fengzhi is socially polished and accustomed to negotiation. In Yan City, he maintains a courteous manner while seeking protection through trade, then suppresses his anger when publicly humiliated because he recognizes the danger of confrontation 9.
His strongest demonstrated qualities are observation, adaptability, and restraint. After being robbed in Yuan City, he does not retaliate or insist on his rank. Instead, he studies the city’s economy and redirects his efforts toward a skill that its merchants will value 37.
His composure is not fearlessness. While waiting to meet Yan Dashan, he conceals a back drenched in cold sweat beneath his robe. Nevertheless, he refuses to kneel under the appraiser’s pressure, preserving his dignity even after accepting the need to surrender wealth and speak humbly to survive 38.
His daughter’s suffering breaks that outward control: watching Ning Rongrong sold and threatened leaves him physically overwhelmed and helpless 22.

- No offensive power: The pagoda does not give him an independent means of fighting or hunting Demonic Beasts 37 38.
- Local limitations: The Yan City steward dismisses its support as unsuitable for Yuan Power cultivators and inferior to inexpensive pills and formations 9.
Treasure Appraisal
- Innate perception: The pagoda detects the internal structure and energy of natural treasures, transmitting clear images into Ning Fengzhi’s mind 38.
- Rapid identification: He examines the damaged Earth Core Fire Ganoderma in three breaths 38.
- Damage analysis: Determines that the thousand-year-old medicine was struck by ice-attribute power, carbonizing its exterior and freezing its core potency 38.
