Appearance

  • Build: Tall and thin, with an imposing presence 117 174.
  • Clothing: Usually wears green or dark green robes 57 174 457.
  • Eyes: Emerald-green pupils and a cold, snake-like gaze 57 118 370.
  • Hair: Completely black after his early physical improvement, although a later battle describes emerald-green hair 126 420.
  • Combat manifestations: Frequently surrounded by dark green poison mist and an emerald serpent or dragon phantom 132 336 458.

Personality

Dugu Bo is suspicious, proud, and quick to answer perceived threats with force. When Tang Chuan first offers to cure Dugu Yan, he questions the boy’s motives and seizes him by the throat. His attitude changes when Tang Chuan accurately describes his own poisoning symptoms and openly admits that he wants access to the garden’s immortal herbs 57 58 62.

His concern for Dugu Yan repeatedly overrides his usual coldness. He monitors her treatment, rushes to investigate her Martial Soul evolution, and acknowledges the considerable debt he owes Tang Chuan for improving her prospects. With trusted companions, he becomes teasing and playful, even copying Tang Chuan’s speech 64 66 126 153 164.

He has little regard for reputation when pursuing power. During the Golden Holy Dragon bloodline confrontation, he dismisses accusations of being a Fallen One and threatens to eliminate witnesses. Nevertheless, he is capable of practical restraint: he accepts warnings about unfamiliar Soul Tools and avoids expanding a poison zone when doing so could endanger his own side 157 160 456 469.

His loyalty becomes especially visible in wartime. He fights through injuries to return to endangered allies, refuses to surrender before a god, and personally leads the rescue at White Stone Hills after detecting abnormal Soul Guidance activity 263 420 470.

Abilities & Skills

Poison Arts

Dugu Bo specializes in corrosive venom, poisonous mist, and wide-area battlefield denial 158 263 458.

  • Mass lethality: His sixth spirit skill rapidly reduces attacking Soul Masters to bones 263.
  • Enhanced venom: Combining serpent venom with residual Soul Ring Poison inside the Medusa Spirit Bone produces poison capable of corroding the Golden Iron Triangle’s defensive light shield 158.
  • Soul corrosion: His Divine Dragon Avatar exhales condensed poison flame capable of corroding the soul 336.
  • Precision control: By Level 96, he can dominate an injured poison specialist through poison manipulation and Soul Power suppression alone 373.
  • Collateral danger: His poison can harm allied casualties and create terrain that neither army can safely cross 242 458.

Martial Soul Possession and Avatar

His original Martial Soul manifests as a giant emerald-green Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor. Following its evolution, his seventh spirit skill transforms him into a Divine Dragon dozens of meters long, covered in emerald-like scales 117 132 164 336.

  • Uses the serpent’s body and tail for direct physical attacks 117 158.
  • Combines physical pressure with surrounding poison mist 132 232.
  • Can restrict an opponent’s maneuvering space with dense poisonous mist 232.
  • His Avatar is not invulnerable: Scarlet King physically overwhelms the serpent, while Golden Crocodile Douluo knocks him out of his dragon form 117 336.

Other Poison Techniques

  • Ten Thousand Snakes Devour Heart: Releases energy snakes against a target. Dugu Bo claims all must be destroyed simultaneously to save the victim; Xiao Rui’er counters the attack with a Blue-gold Vertical Eye 117.
  • Jade Phosphorous Poison Dragon Array: Raises a poison barrier dozens of meters high around his companions to keep a rampaging beast herd from interrupting spirit-ring absorption 195.
  • Jade Phosphor Nine Absolutes: Causes heavy casualties among the Martial Soul Empire’s army. Porcupinefish Douluo initially halts its spread by absorbing it, but doing so worsens his injuries 366 373.
  • Poison Explosion: Used while overwhelming Porcupinefish Douluo 373.

Medusa Spirit Bone

Dugu Bo possesses a head spirit bone associated with Medusa 132 158.

  • Medusa’s Gaze: Used alongside Time Freeze to help trap Tang Hao 132.
  • Poison storage and enhancement: Receives both Jade Phosphor Snake Emperor venom and residual Soul Ring Poison, which interact to create stronger venom 158.

Poison Arrays and Antidotes

Dugu Bo protects his herb garden with a poisonous perimeter that instantly corrodes an entering Soul Beast into black liquid. Dugu Yan states that even thousand-year and ten-thousand-year beasts cannot enter carelessly 62.

  • Personally refines antidote pills that allow safe passage through the garden’s poison mist 62.
  • Recognizes the reasoning behind Tang Chuan’s diagnosis and proposed detoxification methods 62.
  • Already possesses an emerald-green poison bead when Tang Chuan proposes condensing the harmful toxins into a Poison Core 62.

Anti–Soul Tool Warfare

Under Tang Chuan’s influence, Dugu Bo develops poison that attacks equipment and energy circulation as well as living bodies 458.

  • Contaminates Soul Guidance Cores and corrodes array patterns 458.
  • Disables armor, flight tools, and war chariots by infiltrating their systems 458.
  • Uses Time Freeze to interrupt operators, slow cannon charging, and briefly stall purification arrays 470.
  • Precisely targets locking-array nodes with Divine Light to open an escape opportunity 470.

Limitations and Counters

  • Superior physical power: Scarlet King defeats his serpent manifestation despite fighting without a Martial Soul 117.
  • High-level poison resistance: Dugu Bo recognizes that exceptionally powerful opponents can substantially weaken his specialty 334.
  • Golden Holy Dragon: Its innate Evil-Breaking ability suppresses his cold-natured serpent Martial Soul, although his enhanced venom still threatens its users 158.
  • Angel Holy Fire: Qian Renxue purifies his poison mist; her divine shield also blocks his ninth skill 420.
  • Soul Power cost: Expanding Divine Light into a large poison zone leaves him visibly pale and consumes substantial energy 458.
  • Environmental hazards: He cannot endure prolonged exposure to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well’s extreme hot and cold waters 64.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Medusa Head Spirit Bone — Provides Medusa’s Gaze and serves as the vessel for his enhanced mixed venom 132 158.
  • Emerald-green poison bead — Can be expelled from his mouth; already exists before Tang Chuan explains the proposed Poison Core method 62.
  • Antidote pills — Personally refined protection against the herb garden’s perimeter array 62.
  • Ruyi Hundred Treasures Pouch — Gifts this pouch to Tang Chuan after Dugu Yan’s evolution, enabling him to cultivate immortal herbs away from the garden 67.
  • Dragon Transformation Divine Pill — Refined by Tang Chuan using medicinal ingredients and Golden Holy Dragon bloodline; consumed for his Martial Soul evolution 163 164.

History

Herb Garden and Family Poison

Dugu Bo spends decades maintaining an herb garden at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in the Sunset Forest. Its rare ingredients become the basis of Tang Chuan’s proposed exchange: treatment for the Dugu family’s poisoning in return for access to immortal herbs 56 62 117.

Tang Chuan attributes the hereditary condition to an ancestral Soul Ring fusion problem rather than the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Martial Soul itself. Dugu Bo initially distrusts him, but accepts a supervised attempt after the boy describes his nightly needle-like pain and prolonged convulsions 56 58.

At the garden, Tang Chuan proposes nourishing Dugu Yan’s constitution before directing her toxins into a suitable Spirit Bone. For Dugu Bo, he suggests sealing the harmful Soul Ring Poison near the dantian as a Poison Core. Later, Dugu Bo confirms that Tang Chuan helped resolve his poisoning and that he redirected the remaining toxins into his Medusa Spirit Bone 62 158.

Dugu Yan’s medicinal treatment also evolves her Martial Soul into the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor. Dugu Bo promises Tang Chuan a substantial favor and subsequently gives him the Ruyi Hundred Treasures Pouch 66 67.

Tianxing Academy and the Alliance with Tang Chuan

When Scarlet King arrives at the garden with Xiao Rui’er, Dugu Bo first offers access to its herbs in exchange for their departure. Scarlet King’s contempt provokes a fight, in which Dugu Bo is overwhelmed and attempts to pressure him by attacking Xiao Rui’er. Tang Chuan intervenes and explains that they are allies 117 118.

Dugu Bo later serves as a founder, dean, and protector of Tianxing Academy. Its badge includes a coiling Jade Phosphorous Serpent among the three spirits representing its founders, and he leads its competition team 174 219 228.

He and Tang Chuan also cooperate against Tang Hao, combining poison attacks, Medusa’s Gaze, and Time Freeze with Tang Chuan’s plan to trigger the Death Spider Emperor poison already within their opponent 132. In a later political discussion, Dugu Bo initially maintains neutrality over a possible conflict with Prince Xue Xing, while leaving open the possibility of supporting Tang Chuan 141.

Golden Holy Dragon Bloodline and Evolution

Tang Chuan proposes that consuming rare dragon bloodline could evolve Dugu Bo’s serpent Martial Soul. He also promises medicinal assistance toward Level 95 within ten years, though the promise is not itself a recorded breakthrough 135.

After finding Tang San at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, Dugu Bo severely injures him and confronts Yu Xiaogang, Flender, and Liu Erlong. Their Golden Holy Dragon fusion pressures his Martial Soul, but his enhanced poison and outside interference help break their resistance 156 157 158 159.

Dugu Bo forcibly extracts Golden Holy Dragon bloodline from Luo Sanpao, leaving Yu Xiaogang unable to perform even basic Soul Power circulation. Tang Chuan uses the bloodline to refine the Dragon Transformation Divine Pill, which Dugu Bo consumes to evolve into the Jade Phosphor Divine Dragon 160 161 163 164.

Tournament Protection and Spirit Hall Attacks

Dugu Bo protects academy members during spirit-ring absorption and investigates Blue Sunshine Academy’s abnormal injuries after its match against Tang San 195 211. In Martial Soul City, he warns Tang Chuan that Spirit Hall is likely to attack after the tournament, when public scrutiny no longer restrains it 231.

During later ambushes, he uses Divine Dragon poison against hostile Soul Masters and fights Chrysanthemum Douluo while an additional attacker pressures his back. In another crisis, he accepts heavy blows to break away from Magic Bear and Ghost Leopard and return to the endangered group, where four Titled Douluos surround him 242 243 263.

His trust in Tang Chuan deepens enough for the latter to disclose his true identity, Xiao Rui’er’s origins, his million-year spirit ring, and his alliance with Di Tian 271.

War against the Martial Soul Empire

Dugu Bo joins Yang Wudi and Niu Gao in rescuing Ning Fengzhi from Qian Renxue’s attack. He later fights Golden Crocodile Douluo alongside Tang Xiao, but is struck out of his dragon form and loses the ability to continue 332 336.

At Iron Wall Pass, his Jade Phosphor Nine Absolutes devastates enemy troops until Porcupinefish Douluo contains it. Their subsequent confrontation exposes the cost of that countermeasure: the injured Porcupinefish is overwhelmed by Dugu Bo’s Level 96 cultivation and poison control 366 370 373.

Dugu Bo helps defend Star Luo City with Ning Fengzhi, Sword Douluo, Bone Douluo, and Yang Wudi, arguing that Heaven Dou would be the next target if Star Luo fell. After prolonged fighting, Tang San intervenes and uses Tang Chuan’s presence on Sea God Island as leverage against him 401 402 403 404.

When the now-divine Qian Renxue attacks Heaven Dou City, Dugu Bo and his allies attempt to stall until Tang Chuan returns. Qian Renxue defeats them with one hand, but Dugu Bo refuses to kneel and urges Xue Beng not to surrender prematurely 420.

Sun Moon Empire Campaign

After Dugu Yan’s Sea God Island trials, she works with her grandfather to reorganize poison cultivation and develop standards that would distinguish poison masters from dangerous Evil Soul Masters 454.

Against the Sun Moon Empire, Dugu Bo expands Jade Phosphorous Divine Light into a poison zone that contaminates equipment and forces the enemy behind protective barriers. The zone also blocks allied movement, producing a temporary ceasefire and prompting the enemy to classify him as a “Disaster Level” threat 457 458.

During the White Stone Hills night raid, he stirs the front-line poison mist as a diversion. Detecting abnormal Soul Guidance fluctuations, he brings Yang Wudi and Niu Gao to rescue the trapped Seven Treasure forces. He corrodes locking-array nodes, delays artillery with Time Freeze, and suppresses enemy perception while Sword and Bone Douluo break open the remaining lockdown. He then seals the retreat route with poison mist as the Sun Moon Empire pursues them 469 470.
