Background

Yu Xiaogang served as Tang San’s teacher at Nuoding Junior Spirit Master Academy. He promoted a control-system route for Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass, but clashed with Tang Chuan, who argued that the martial soul’s life force, resilience, and innate entanglement made a life-oriented path superior. Angered by the challenge to his theory, Yu expelled Tang Chuan from his guidance and declared that Tang Chuan’s future would have nothing to do with him 1 2.

Despite this dispute, he protected Tang San during the hunt for Tang San’s first spirit ring, suffering poisoning and injury from a Mandala Snake 7. Tang Hao later entrusted Tang San to Yu’s care, while Yu explicitly refused responsibility for Tang Chuan, whom he considered untalented, unintelligent, stubborn, and rebellious 21.
