Background / History
Tang San was entrusted to Yu Xiaogang’s care by his father, Tang Hao. He accepted Yu Xiaogang’s teaching that Blue Silver Grass was a “Waste Spirit” suited to the control path, even when Tang Chuan argued that its true strength lay in vitality and life-oriented cultivation 3 21.
As a student of Shrek Academy, Tang San developed Blue Silver Grass control skills, hidden weapons, Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, and the Eight Spider Lances. His rivalry with Tang Chuan repeatedly exposed the limits of his chosen path: Tang Chuan defeated him in sparring, later restrained him with Blue Silver Grass, and dismissed Tang San’s reliance on hidden weapons and ambush tactics 33 101.
After learning that Tang Hao was the Clear Sky Douluo and that his second Martial Soul was the Clear Sky Hammer, Tang San sought greater strength through both his hammer cultivation and the Eight Spider Lances’ ability to absorb vitality and Soul Power 148 191. His attempt to absorb a Ten-Thousand-Year ring for the Clear Sky Hammer severely injured him, though he ultimately acquired its first spirit ring 195 197.
Driven by revenge for Xiao Wu and hatred toward Tang Chuan, Tang San entered the City of Slaughter. There, killing and devouring accelerated his cultivation but eroded his reason, beginning his transformation into an Evil Soul Master 257 270. His mutated Blue Silver Grass became black, blood-veined, and increasingly lethal.
Tang San’s descent continued after he used Ring Detonation against Tang Chuan, suffered severe backlash, and surrendered the technique to the Clear Sky Sect in exchange for his life 277 278. He later returned to Shrek Academy with the critically wounded Tang Hao and resolved to grow strong enough to kill Tang Chuan 353.
He eventually embraced Rakshasa Divine Power completely, establishing the Rakshasa Divine Court through mass soul extraction and raising undead forces from Clear Sky Sect members 412 421. After being severely wounded and displaced to the Sun Moon Empire, he allied with the exiled Third Prince Xu Jingyuan, offering an Undead Legion in exchange for resources and souls 434 437. He later used the Sun Moon Empire’s military and Soul Tool technology to invade the Douluo Continent 456.
Appearance
Tang San was initially recognized as a young man in blue with a Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul 103. His appearance changed drastically as Rakshasa Divine Power corrupted him.
- His Blue Silver Grass mutates into thick black vines marked with blood-red patterns 270.
- His mutated grass has serrated leaves and a cold, dark aura 173.
- He later appears in black robes with disheveled hair, ghost-green eyes, and a pulsing Rakshasa Mark on his brow 407.
- He bears lingering cyan-gold and golden-black wounds inflicted by Tang Chuan and Di Tian 407 421.
Personality
Tang San was initially devoted to Yu Xiaogang’s teachings and protective of those he considered his teacher and companions. He intervened against Tang Chuan to defend Yu Xiaogang and showed distress when his mentor was injured 88 91.
His defeats by Tang Chuan fostered insecurity, resentment, and an obsessive need to prove his strength. He became increasingly willing to justify hidden weapons, lethal ambushes, vitality absorption, and forbidden techniques as necessary means of victory 101 116 277.
Following the City of Slaughter, vengeance overtook restraint. Tang San became impulsive, bloodthirsty, and increasingly detached from human life, slaughtering Royal Knights and noble disciples during repeated losses of control 270 272. As the master of the Rakshasa Divine Court, he displayed no remorse for consuming civilian souls or enslaving the dead 412 421.
Despite severe injuries and setbacks, he remains calculating and ambitious. He exploited Xu Jingyuan’s resentment and political position, viewing the Sun Moon Empire’s prince as a means to recover strength and return to the Douluo Continent 437.
